- At 90 years old, Joyce DeFauw proudly donned a cap and gown at Northern Illinois University’s commencement ceremony, more than 70 years after she left college to start a family. Over that time, her family has grown to include 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, many of whom were there to witness this achievement. Joyce mentioned to her family in 2019 that she regretted not getting her degree and they encouraged her to go back to school. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more.
She took “ there’s no better age to start studying” to a whole new level
Nothing funnier than her birthdate on a resume 😂
She has little time left what’s the point 😂
Imagine still doing school at the age of 90 😂😂😂
wym
😂😂😂
I need to show this to my parents. If this woman can go back to graduate college at 90 there's no reason why they can't do the same in their 50s.
My dude, college ain’t for everyone
Um, let your parents decide that on their own. And yes college isn't for everyone.
General studies for a 90 year old means she’ll be the highest paid Walmart greeter. This is the weirdest thing to shear and it not be a joke. I’m mean good for her, the rate I’m going I’ll graduate at the same age, college is definitely not for everyone.
Why would they.....they're almost at retirement age
😄

She never gave up to graduate, wow. ❤

This is literal proof that it’s never too late or you’re not too old to accomplish anything.

Usually not having education is a life long regret for many people...I have seen my parents moan about it throughout their life...now this grandmother can live peacefully...can see how genuinely happy she is...
@@crayonoyarc huh? its getting worth more if anything depending on the field, hell places ik u used to need nothing but a high school education, now almost every single job req there needs a degree of some sort compared to 10-15 years ago when people would trian u on teh stuff
@@Eclipse-lw4vf trust me all the things you have learned won’t even need it when you get a job.
Age is nothing but a number congratulations Great grandma🎉
" age is nothing but a number"
Sounds like something a pedophile would say
this sounds so bad out of context
@@K1TTYBR4T yeah imagine this comment but as a response to a pregnancy announcement 😂

Her time is running out soon enough lol 😂😂😂
It's never too late to attain higher education. Congratulations!

Damn ...and there I was, feeling self conscious at starting my undergrad at 21. She's a rockstar
It's ok. You can fit right in, since your age gap isn't that far off from the other students.
That's younger than I was, you can do it too!
@@TheRandompaint How old were you?
@@Maw0 Stared at 22 at a community college (I had a 32 year old classmate), dropped out at 24 and went back when I was 26 to a better college and graduated with a Bachelors in Biology from University of Cincinnati. Not doing much with it though, currently an ebay Vendor and property manager (doing fine).
@@TheRandompaint Well, did you have fun doing Biology?
This took receiving a degree that you'll never use for the rest of your life, to another level
“So proud of you….I got mine at 52 and was so happy to accomplish this. Education is fun and is unending. We need to share with our young people this secret to making life fun and better.
Congratulations to her! This is how we should all view education as something that never ends just keeps evolving because you can always learn something new
100%!!!
I dropped out of high school in grade 11 due to alot of personal issues, the stress of finishing my education is always there. I’m getting older but I’m still not ready to do it yet. That being said, this is SO comforting to see🥰
Start prioritizing your education right now or you’ll end up being a graduate at 90 years old. I want to be retired and become a pothead at that age.
@@Autisticgyal you’ve got your life, they’ve got theirs dude. At least don’t be patronizing
@@miau6451Education and the internet in the west is more accessible than ever. Many people avoid starting their education - even registering for a free prep course - because they fear failure. I used poverty, my disabilities, my race and gender as an excuse to keep postponing my education so I wouldn’t bother trying. Once I started to explore different subjects, watch lectures on CZcams and reading, I gained confidence to find opportunities to start my education. There has to be some effort
@@Autisticgyal I grew up with something called selective mutism and it has stopped me from doing many things in life. I’m not working at the moment but I’ve actually become a waitress/ bartender and it changed my life completely. Some people cannot handle school at the given age and take a different path in life. I’m content with that, the stress only comes from the pressure of others. The great thing is that anyone can go back to school as an adult, and I definitely will when I’m ready
@@Autisticgyal I see what you’re saying though don’t get me wrong lmao just everyone takes a different path
I can't believe all those people come from her womb, having kids is a blessing OMG.
I also want to start my family at a young age to have this blessing.
I guess that goes to show, anything is possible! At 90, she must have been a really smart person throughout her life. I can’t imagine being 90 and going to college and graduating.
You're never too old to learn something new and be a better human.
Awe ❤️ what a beautiful precious moment 🤩 Go grandma 🎉🥳
Really proud of her AND her family for encouraging her to follow through with this. 💕 Good job, Joyce!
Wow the title is enough to make you cry I guess that goes to show that you're never too old for something I'm so proud of that lady and I know her classmates and his family is too and to have a family as big as that is a real privilege
Me going back to school at 25 for a bachelor's degree!!!! felt like I was alone for a second :)
Admiration and love for this woman! I have spent 40 years working with adult students pursuing advanced degrees....she epitomizes the "adult student" and the fortitude it takes to reach a personal or professional goal!! Bravo!
Way to go grandma

She doesn’t even look 90 God has been so good to her
Motivation is everything. Congrats, Joyce!
Hell yeah! My mom is 59 and is going back to school to get a bachelor's in education! Her reasoning is, she's not going to be carrying around patients forever. So she'll teach!
Extra fun that the venue was NIU. My highschool used their hall when I graduated!
Congratulations to this great granny.

such inspiring events in this life tell us there is no limit to reach goals...
You're never too old to learn, its our natural desire to want to learn and it doesn't necessarily have to lead to a career (especially when you're so old i doubt you're even looking for a career)
That’s amazing,congratulations!

Is never too late.
I’m currently starting college and I’ll probably be 28 years old once I reach my dreams but was afraid how at people would look at me (an old guy who graduated at 28?? And not married??) that thought always scared me until my three bestfriends motivated me and supported me and now I’ll start on either the end of December or early January!
YES! GO GRANNY
