Homesteading and practicing herbalism in zone 3 on the Canadian Prairies can present many challenges for those who are interested in living a more self-sufficient and sustainable lifestyle. One of the biggest challenges is the harsh climate, characterized by long, cold winters and short, hot summers. This can make it difficult to grow certain plants, fruits and vegetables that are not well-suited to these conditions, which can limit the variety of herbs and produce that can be grown and used for herbalism. Additionally, the soil in this region is often dry and nutrient-poor, which can make it difficult for farmers to maintain healthy plants, and for herbalism practitioners to grow the plants they need for their remedies.
Another challenge for homesteading and practicing herbalism in zone 3 is the risk of drought. The Prairies are known for their dry conditions, and during dry years, it can be difficult to keep plants hydrated and healthy. This can lead to crop failure and a limited availability of plants for herbalism practices.
Additionally, the short growing season can also be a challenge for homesteaders and herbalism practitioners in this region, as it limits the types of plants that can be grown and the amount of time available for planting and harvesting.
Despite these challenges, homesteaders and herbalism practitioners in zone 3 on the Canadian Prairies are able to grow a variety of plants, fruits and vegetables, and herbs by using new technologies, crop genetics, and gardening techniques that enable them to adapt to the unique climate and soil conditions of the region. They can also source the plants they need from other regions or online, and learn to dry and store them for future use, so they can have a variety of herbs available throughout the year.
My grandpa was a true inspiration to me. He immigrated to Canada from Scotland many years ago, and despite the many challenges he faced, he always remained positive and determined to make a better life for himself and his family. He was a hardworking man who taught me the value of determination and the importance of never giving up on my dreams.
One of the things that I loved most about my grandpa was his love for nature, gardening and herbalism. He taught me how to garden and how to use the plants that grow in our region for medicinal and culinary purposes. He showed me how to live in harmony with nature, and how to appreciate the simple things in life.
He was a true mentor to me, he taught me many life lessons, and his wisdom and guidance have stayed with me throughout my life. I will always be grateful for the time I spent with him, and the memories I have of him will always hold a special place in my heart. I will always treasure the lessons he taught me, and I know that his legacy will continue to inspire me for many years to come.

@@groundskeepercody6013 thank you for sharing, your channel deserves to grow bigger and it will. I'm learning about medicinal herbs and making tinctures...by the way, I live in the mountains in central Italy, moved from London UK over ten years ago, I grow my food, keep chickens, forage and barter with local small farms near me..I live off grid in my small old stone house without a car or a fridge or a washing machine or central heating or hot running water, just my trusty wood stove..I only have this old mobile phone with a very limited access to internet..I don't even have an income but I'm the happiest and healthiest I've ever been...I'm a master of fermented food, so I ferment almost everything even fresh sardines 😊...I wish to have a CZcams channel but I don't even have a computer or a good phone...so nothing for now..keep inspiring and spreading knowledge and good health. All the best. Sue 😊👏

Is that a Norfolk Island Pine next to ya? Very nice!
Also, I'm allergic to ragweed, and in turn, I have an allergic reaction to Dandelion Root. I ASSUME it's related, but every time I have had the Dandelion Root, I get hives around my mouth and down my neck. Which sucks, because I really like it!
