Living in zone 3 on the Canadian Prairies presents unique challenges for homesteading and herbalism. The harsh climate, dry and nutrient-poor soil, and risk of drought are just a few of the obstacles we face. However, we have found ways to adapt, using new technologies, crop genetics, and gardening techniques. We also source plants from other regions and dry and store them for future use. We are excited to share these tips and techniques with you.
We are inspired by our grandfather, who taught us the value of determination and the importance of living in harmony with nature. His love for gardening and herbalism has stayed with us throughout our lives, and we are honored to carry on his legacy.
On our channel, you will find a variety of videos, including tutorials on homesteading for beginners, organic gardening methods, permaculture, and backyard farming for food security. We also share tips on natural living, eco-friendly living hacks, and traditional skills for modern homesteaders. Our herbalism videos cover topics such as homemade remedies, herbal medicine for natural healing, and wildcrafting.
We are excited to connect with you on this journey towards a more self-sufficient and sustainable lifestyle. Thank you for joining us!

Great to see so many flowers from the plants !! And i like the weedeater approach, way quicker and no root disturbance.
We're huge fans of mulching and seen a huge reduction in water

Hello Cody. I need to try some straw on my pumpkin plants. I had an accidental pumpkin suprise times two in my zucchini bed. I got the seeds with a seed Swap. 🎃 Thank you for the tip. Many blessings. 🎃

I've been thinking about those pumpkin plants and hoping you would do an update. I sure hope you get your quota 🎃🎃🎃
    Take care of yourself

Your pumpkin and sunflower fields are looking so healthy! Yes, rain is a scarce commodity here on Vancouver Island as well. Cody, I just nabbed two giant bags of sheep wool from a local sheep farmer for free. My research shows it's an excellent mulch and compost amendment. Have you ever heard of or used this? Cheers

@@groundskeepercody6013 Yes, Victoria has been in a drought pretty much since we moved here in 1990. A few years after we moved here, watering restrictions were made permanent. We did expand our reservoir on the South Island, which gave the city better water capacity for fire fighting ability, etc., but our annual rainfall didn't increase. Victoria's annual rainfall is 27.8 inches or 705 mm. Where I live, we are on the driest side of Victoria, so we are in the low 20s in terms of inches per year.

Hi Cody, excited to be following along with this pumpkin journey. Does this mean you do not irrigate your pumpkins other than rain? Does that mean you use rainwater in buckets to water? Do you use any irrigation on your sunflowers? Thank you! :)
