    Absolutely brilliant, 6000miles on my Supermeteor. Now I'm going to do same seat mod.

      I'm happy with it. Starting to see the squares through the cover now, but only slightly. I'd rather that than a sore butt and man bits ,🤣🙏

    Brilliant idea but I wonder how the seat foam will hold up over one year, two years, or longer.
    The reason I say this, as an engineer, is that each one of those little cubes of foam, will inevitably be flexing more, than if the seat was one large piece of foam. You may find that, over time, the appearance of the seat will suffer, if the foam becomes permanently deformed
    Anyway, I hope that isn`t the case and your seat gives you years of comfort.

      @Teacher-T-Thailand  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Yes, that is a concern. Which is why I cut them at 2cm squared and not 1cm squared. So at least they have a larger anchor point. But if and when that day comes, the gel pad I had bought and was originally prepared to install will then go in. For now I will enjoy the ultra soft and absorbing foam. I couldn’t carry on with the seat as it was. 🙏

      @davericketts9101 Před 5 měsíci +2

      @@Teacher-T-Thailand I agree. Not only would 1 cm squared be tricky to do, it would almost certainly mean the foam would collapse and not work as well as what you`ve done. I hope it works well and doesn`t deform. Will watch with interest on follow up videos.

      I was thinking they'll certainly be rubbing against each other, if not greatly, at least more than when they were a cohesive mass. I'm also curious how it will hold up over time. I have no idea whether it will make a difference in the lifespan of a seat cushion.

  • @Teacher-T-Thailand

    If you take the seat completely off, you feet touch the ground even less, because the seat is so wide. Hagon make a set of rear suspension springs 20mm less. I may purchase them soon to make a review in the future. 🙏

  • @user-zu6ir6kj5g
    @user-zu6ir6kj5g Před 2 měsíci +2

    Excellent! Presumably it works the same way as "pocket springs" in a mattress. I think my only concern would be the possibility of the individual squares becoming detached over time, the whole having lost its' structural integrity. Time will tell. Why not consider patenting the idea!

    • @Teacher-T-Thailand
      @Teacher-T-Thailand  Před 2 měsíci

      No they haven't come lose. It's a more modern type stronger foam. The comfort is great. The only down side is 3 months later, I'm starting to see the square pattern through the cover. But I prefer the comfort New video out in 2.5 hours. A must watch for comfort.

    Funny you should say that (about the gel not being that much more comfortable. I did the very same thing when trying to find a solution to the awful Honda Rebel seat. I bought a medical gel pad, used it on my office chair for a while, and then had to take it off because it was just not comfortable. I have never found a workable solution to that seat on the Rebel, even tried the rear shocks suggestions (as you did on the SM650 in a different video). The SM seat is much better than the Rebel, but it still only doubles my range before my rear starts to complain.

      It does soften the seat. But I do start to see squares on the seat material now. A small price to pay for a more comfortable seat ,🙏

    Good video and idea, well explained...
    But my only concern is - Though it got soft, over period of time as blocks are small they will loose their elasticity and will deform faster...

    • @Teacher-T-Thailand
      @Teacher-T-Thailand  Před 5 měsíci

      So far so good. 1 month after. But if and when they do deform, that’s the time I will rip,them and and fit gel. But the blue gel I bought is no good apparently. It needs to be a medical gel to be any good. So really happy I didn’t rip out the foam to fit the blue gel.

    Excellent video, softer than the Meteor seat 🤔.
    My understanding is that the seat needs to be firmer for longer distance riding so it will be interesting to see the results once you travel longer and further 👍.
    You mentioned previously about the weight of the bike when placing the SM on a centre stand. On another channel (Our Spanish Adventure) the presenter made a small wedge shaped ramp out of wood and it appeared to make the bike almost weightless 🤔. I will look forward to the follow up videos on both the rider and pillion modification and results 👍.

      Now softer than the Meteor 350 seat. 9 hours a day for 2 days, the Unmodified seat killed me. Next long trip will be next weekend. Our Spanish Adventures. Great channel. A great innovator, to very high standards. Thanks again Bob 😂🙏

      @Teacher-T-Thailand  Před 5 měsíci

      As long as you are prepared to rip out the foam, in order to fit a gel pad, the disc cutter works quicker. But I’m still happy just cutting and leaving.. it’s much softer and better recoil for me.

    You know, I went back and looked at this video again and I think you are on to something here. It's very likely that I am going to follow your example, HOWEVER, I have as much trepidation as you in cutting into a new seat. Roughly how deep did you cut without hitting the black plastic seat frame? 🙏

      @@Teacher-T-ThailandWill let you know how I get on. I am nervous about the "restapling" once the grid has been cut. You said that the staples do not need to curl back in on themselves when they go back in? If this worked as it has for you, I could use the same principle to look at my Honda Rebel seat.

      @@Teacher-T-Thailand Well the Sahara seats didn't cut the mustard (for me) - but rather than scrapping it, I stripped it, carpet taped the gel pad it came with on top of the RE genuine standard seat and fitted the Sahara seats cover over the top of this. That seems to have improved things a lot. Flattened the seat a little, added a little extra height to the seat and as the Sahara cover is diamond quilted, reckon I got some of the same benefit you got after you cut the foam on yours.

      I took the seat off this bike, to see if making the seat lower would help. Because the bike is so wide, my feet were even night off the ground! My seat is much more comfortable for me now though.
