- Making the absolute most of 3D printing and Laser Cutting! These tools are becoming much more affordable to the average modeler and in today's video I’ll show you the basics when it comes to putting something like this together.
The model is built in HO scale (1/87th Scale) and it shows just how intricate we can build models with some of the more modern tools we have available to us. There is quite a steep learning curve however if you’re willing to invest the time and energy you’ll certainly surprise yourself at what can be achieved even at a beginners level.

You should make this a series- making actual locations in miniature!
That is a really cool idea! I'll have to write that down 😎
I’d love to see the Grampians or the hilly/mountainy areas north of Gippsland (forgot the name of the region)
Please do that Luke
@@BoulderCreekRailroad can you also do fictional dioramas from franchises like Gundam and evengelion as well as some Ghibli movies. Also can you do a diorama on the Chernobyl nuclear reactor.
And also able to connect all of it like its a whole town but not
This video is like Bob Ross's The Joy of Painting, but with models. It's calming and interesting to watch.
Exactly what I’m thinking. At some points he seemed to ruin the work but came up with even more stunning results.
Bob ross didnt 3d print his paintings tho
@@tiny_gyarados8848 True, but given the different time and genre, I think that's an understandable difference.
Your attention to detail never ceases to amaze me.
Thanks Merrick, likewise I'm always impressed at the scenes you create as well 😉
Hey Merrik, I enjoy watching your projects too
Merrick!!!! Love your work too.
Except at putting USB sticks in the slot. 😂😂
@@BoulderCreekRailroad how about an abandoned structure next time.
Luke when modelling: *carefully and gently positions every little thing*
Luke with the USB drive: *YEET*
You need perfectly steady hand for 3d printing
I genuinely couldn't tell if that shot was an intentional joke or a genuine goof but either way it really cracked me up🤣
@@paveloleynikov4715 And nerves of plastic filament.
@@mossydreamz deffo a joke
Obviously a staged shot as the USB was oriented the right way the first time instead of entering the orientation matrix 😂😂
Luke: "You can get results just as accurate as laser-cutting with hand-cutting methods."
Me: "Okay." crying-cat-meme.jpg
lol... yeah it would be a struggle... but not impossible 😎
For straight lines I'd say you can get pretty damn close with a sharp knife to the cuts you can get with a laser, though for long cuts the laser is more reliable, but for curves the laser will win every time.
this guy is unfricken believable.
a couple years ago when i was having massive struggles with my mental health, i would lay in bed and watch boulder creek railroad videos to calm myself down... it's oddly reassuring to know that they're still being made, and they're just as interesting as they were when i used to watch them! great work!
edit: vidoes to videos (i was distracted when i wrote this comment)
Flips bottles like a boss, can't stick in a USB right the first time. He IS mortal.
he did it on purpose to not make us feel bad
I'm a simple person. I see a Luke upload, I click fast.
Nice Video as always. It would be cool if you could do a jungle diorama someday.
That would be cool! I've never tried but it would be something I'd love to attempt 😉
Luke, will you make a mountain side diorama with railroad through a tunnel?
That would be awesome! And the bigger the better :D
"lets not waste anymore time" - also the motto for the guy on the bike. Amazing cornering skills.
Great build, as always :)
The thing which impressed me about you is your clear understanding of how important texture and shine are to achieving a realistic effect. I feel like a lot of people miss this and their otherwise amazing models and dioramas suffer as a result.
I've seen ambitious dioramas of castles and medieval villages that look like piss next to this guy's models. A little detail goes a long way.
As we know Luke is a Pro bottle-flipping master but that USB placement really crack me up.
I found Wally! He's looking at you from the basement access when you're adding turf to the diorama!
100 miles ahead of any other scale modeler literally no joke amazing work
That Spraying at 5:30 was my favorite bit. Thank You for another video Luke!
Unbelievable. I can't stop myself from watching your videos again and again...
I guess Im not the only one saying that......but:
YOU SHOULD REALLY MAKE ALOT MORE VIDEOS!!!!
quality, not quantity
@@Ollie9T7 Never said I want one without the other.
@Jack Phillips Would you spare me your crying? I just wanted to express I COULD WATCH HIM EVERYDAY MAKING STUFF. Im not in the mood today for your salt dude.
@@LaserGadgets to be fair you said he should make more, not could lmao you brought this on yourself
The problem mainly is that these dioramas take a lot of time to make. Not to mention he most likely does this all to himself, Preparing, filming, building, editing etc.
I'm fairly sure these take over several weeks to work on.
Aside his private life and such, maybe he does multiple projects at once, but that I don't know.
*Edit: Some spelling mistakes.
9:42 It's much easier to get this effect if you take off (Un-screw) the small nozzle on the very end of the air brush that protects the tip of the needle.
PS: Sorry forgot to say, yet another amazingly realistic model, you are a true Artist :-)
Luke, you should make airport scene with a tram.
Or something like an airport terminal
Yeah
In Z, there are so nice airplane models in 1:200 or even 1:220.
I'm always in awe at watching your videos. Not only do I learn new things, but I get inspired that I could try that. Thank you for all you do.
The forklift (must be a runaway as it has no driver 🤣) is a great detail 👍
Forklift driver Klaus?
Hey Luke, have you ever done/would you ever consider doing a fantasy or historical setting in a diorama?
The magnorail was the most smartest thing i've ever seen.
With Luke's attention to detail, I would be more than happy to have him as my pilot. ATB : )
As awesome as ever Luke but you must have quite the quarry landscape in your backyard by now! Thanks for never failing to inspire :D
I have been following you for a year now, have been thinking about starting model building for a long time. The cost has held me back, but recently I saw models that fit me and got it home today. Will start building on it tomorrow and it will be exciting, thanks for the inspiration
Luke your ingenuity never ceases to amaze! FANTASTIC JOB!! Can't wait for the effects update. With your talent you could go into kit manufacturing. You could become the Australian George Sellios. Again excellent job.
I love this content so much, calming voice, mesmerising craftmanship, and great advice for expert, novice, and beginning scenery makers
Sometimes I think it's too calming! But the results are astounding. I try to be as methodical as Luke is, but I always rush things a bit and the quality decreases.
This guy is also really good at recording and editing videos of his projects.
I just sit here totally mesmerised by your attention to detail. Can’t wait for the next video.
I have been watching and loving your videos for ages, but this one made me feel so old.
Best present for my name's day....a video from Luke!
yo that transition at 5 30 is ultra clean
This is incredible. Thanks for continuing to put out these excellent builds!
I just love your channel! Not that I know a single thing about what you do, it still seems like you progressed in your craft which is so cool to see!!
Excellent, been waiting for an industrial(ish) scene
The static grass blows me away every single time!
I’m always like; oh you’re gonna make it [zooms out] - wait that’s the actual build!!!!
This should be an Olympic sport! I'm sure you would win a gold medal 🥇
Brilliant! And perfect timing - I just bought some photo-etch fire escapes to add to some of my buildings.
I never get bored of watching Lukes builds. Looking forward to build my own dioramas soon using his techniques
Absolutely stellar work, Luke! True-to-life, as they say!
5:34 that was clean
As always. Love love love !!!!!
5:34, only one word: WoW 😍
I left a job yesterday, and start another one tomorrow. I was seriously wondering what to do today.
Luke Towan had my back.
It's gonna be a good day... :)
wow! these buildings are just incredible!!!
You are the King of model Railroad sceneries and the other parts of the world need to hear this... You inspire me a lot sir
Another amazing work Luke - thank you for sharing!
I’m so happy you uploaded!
Absolutely stunning, as always.
Another incredible build, I can't wait to see the final diorama.
Another amazing build definitely worth the wait can't wait to see part 2
Excellent, Luke!
Love the build, the details are insane.
Bloody brilliant, mate!
Beautifully done!
These are absolutely incredible. Your videos never cease to amaze and inspire.
Wow. When I think, you can't top that, you do. Thanks for this wonderful share.
Another insane piece!!!
Great to see you back 😀
That magna rail is brilliant, never seen that before.
Incredible as always, especially being based on a real-world reference. But honestly, the hyper guy on the bike really steals the show 🚴♂️
Absolutely adore all of your videos!! I was excited to see you posted again!!
Outstanding, as always
Always a pleasure watching ur work Luke! 😊
Great diorama, Luke, as always! Every weekend looking for a new tut from you. The technic, the theme, the dedication always a inspiration.
3:51 proof that Luke Towan is, in fact, human. 🤣
😄 yeah I tried about 10 times to try and nail it but every time I missed! The shot I ended up using was one of the worst attempts 😂
@@BoulderCreekRailroad nice diversion there cyber Luke. 🤣
@@BoulderCreekRailroad Next time just pull the zip drive out and reverse the play back.
Yup, I remember my "first time". 😬😁
Pretty awesome build project, I know nothing about this but am intrigued enough to buy a machine and try.
Yeah, I thought that too, but I'd be editing out every flub I made!'😅🤦♂️
Cant wait for the update on this video 😍😍😍
great tutorial as always thank you Luke. Your effort and attention to detail are very much appreciated.
This is absolutely amazing. What attention to detail.
I like this level of modelling, concept, tools, techniques, everything, thanks for sharing with us!

Wow! That looks amazing.

As always, amazing work.
FINALLLLLYYYYY!!!!! been waiting for another video. Thanks mate!!
Another gorgeous model. Superb work.
Thanks Luke! This was exactly what I needed today. Love your work.
Final end scene look realistic. Amazing job, Luke Towan.
Quite nice and several steps beyond what I normally do; but, this gives me more ideas to try later on. I always live my buildings interiors accessible for later work.
So amazing and so vivid, so beautiful in sight👏👏
As allways, breathtaking.
You're amazing Luke!! Love your videos!!!
Amazing work Luke!
Amazing as always Luke.
I can't wait to see what you do next. As always, amazing work!
Luke every time I watch one of your videos all I can think of is a Christmas Village. It's July I know but I think your Christmas village would be AMAZING!
Wow,what an amazing build.
Your advice is helping me build my own model railway diorama. Thanks, and glad you provide the tutorials.
Psyched for the future sewer video under the building! What a fantastic build
I always get a little angry watching your videos... how can these be SO FRICKING GOOD??? All I can say is: Don't stop... I enjoy each one of them with my wife and we love to see your work even thou I can only dream of making anything remotely close to your creations. Btw... the attention to detail *chef kiss* incredible!
Amazing, simply amazing!
Really impressive man! Can't wait for the rest. Always fun and peaceful to watch your videos.
Nice to see another great video builds, mesmerizing .

Awesome as always Luke
