On this episode of Adventures with Purpose, we head down to Lake Billy Chinook to recover a family's ski boat sunk 52' underwater.
Crazy... RIGHT?
So how did the family boat sink?
The owner tells that there was just a tad too much weight in the front of the boat.
Good news is that we succeeded in pulling the sunken boat out of the lake, floating it back to the boat ramp.
What's our next underwater treasure hunting adventure going to find?

My first boat was bought with the help of Ms Lyra Holt Dean. Sailing is thousands of years old and we continue this long-lasting, intriguing and at the same time dangerous tradition! Throughout history sailing has helped various civilizations to develop and prosper as people sailed accross oceans to settle in new undiscovered areas. Each time we set a sail itâs as if you could feel the same excitement, uncertainty and craving for adventure as it used to be thousands of years ago. In a way sailing is like a bridge connecting us with times long lost.
@Lewis Hamilton NO, we are just business partners. She is a financial Analyst I met in 2012 that changed my perspective about making money and spending money. We all need someone like that.
I am sure you would do a lot of boat riding or rather sailing this summer.
@Lewis Hamilton I dont think its allowed to drop email address her. If you wish to reach out to her search her name online and you will find her
I love sailing because it makes me feel awake and alive - but also because it gives me moments of peace, meditation and stillness. ...
the sense of order on a boat, where everything has a place and a function, and it's possible to make everything shipshape.

For some reason it felt like the boat was the climax and the prize... But you didnât show much of it once it was out, so it felt like an empty ending. Could you do a walk around next time pls.
it sounds like they were contracted to salvage the boat, so it really wasn't even "found" they knew what they were looking for...
Same with the jet boat in Oregon. Really wanted to see a little bit more of it when reveled and get a little more story about it. Just a couple extra minutes would have been cool. Cool vids tho
Agreed, also would it work after being sunk that might sound like a dumb question but yeah lol
I'm a new subscriber by finding your channel by chance and I've been binge watching these videos. This is definitely one of the best and you guys make it look so easy and seem like the coolest group to hang out with. I appreciate the hard, dangerous work you all do and whether it's finding closure for family members, or returning lost property to their owners, or helping clean up bodies of water to improve the environment, I sincerely thank you.
Hell all he had to do was pull the drain plug and watch it float to the surface.... that was a lot of unnecessary work.......

Uhh, yeah, it was overtaken by the lake guys! đđđ
I can see why the neighborhood is changing!! You are crazy ! But in a good way! Enjoyed the vid. I use to dive and it was amazing what I found! Stay safe and it looks like you love what you're doing! I did! Thanks,!

U guys both drop on Fridays. I wanted u to find that odd6
Now you have to buy a ton of rice to put the boat in to dry it out but you can use some for the phone as well

The phone and the boat are trashed. Cheaper to buy a new one.

That was an exciting adventure and you did it. You got the boat back onto shore. Great job you guys. đ
"that's why it sunk it had expired tags" this had me dead lol XD
Iphone hanging was the best part... LMFAO
Freeze seal is one of the things that happened to the USS Thresher when that sub sank. They attempted to do a blow to the surface when the 4500 lb air created a freeze seal and the air could not continue into the ballast banks
Another GREAT RECOVERY! Thank you.
Nice đ Jared. Made it look so easy. A professional for sure. Stay safe out there.
Well, seeing you rescue different methods of transportation from our lakes and rivers is a good move as a way to protect the environment. I am glad that you are very brave to descend into the deep to do this type of work. For those who are watching and want to see what kind of skill you have to have to do this, you have to be a very good swimmer and don't mind being under water for a long time in order to get the job done. The great work you do has gotten you a subscription from me.
Beautiful... Thanks for taking note and following us with a new subscription.
Lakes are nothing (unless you are down South). Now diving in the ocean is a different story. I do have a fear of sharks but got over it once I was in the ocean. I got close to a barracuda which is pretty crazy. This would be a cool job to have. Hoooyaaahh from a Navy vet and nice save!
Tell your daughter thanks for filming the dogs haha so cute
Oh my gosh with the Dad jokes! You are a nut! (Nice to see opportunities to laugh some given the seriousness of what you all are often engaged in).

Well, done. :-) I hope the boat it fixable. I'm sure it was scary for that man and his family to have it sink. The sound was much better with this video.
The boat was sent to scrap right after and it was replaced.

Hi, I'm a fairly new subscriber to this channel and I'm wading (excuse the pun) through the videos and came across this one. Back in 1978 we went on a water ski vacation to Billy Chinook Reservoir. The first day I did a shore start and tore up the top of my foot and got blood poisoning, the weather turned bad and we left sooner than planned and we got into an accident with our class c motorhome. All-in-all is was not a good vacation. I'm really enjoying your dive explorations. I got my PADDY license back in 1991. Thanks for sharing
That one was fast guys, and what a team you have đ„°đ„°đ„°đ„°đđđđ€©đ€©đ€©đ€©
Excellent work gentlemen, I wonder how much something like that would cost, roughly/approx.
LOL.. I had a Centurion Falcon Bowrider... Mine was teal... It sank too...
Kiera is always spitting truths!
I love lake billy Chinook! I go there every year
15 Minute Job, 5 to find it , 5 to snap hook pickup tire inner tubes to the two transome points and one to the bow. Less than 5 minuts to put a few cubic feet in each tube. Use short Plastic rope lines to get the load closer to the surface. Get an old low pressure hose and adapt standard shop air QD fitting to it, put it on an old first stage and leave the tank on the surface. Use standard shop air hose from regulator on tank to a shrader valve inflater on the bottom. When you get to the surface, put a semi intertube right under the engine with fill valve at dead center. Put a little air on each side to get it high enough to start onto the trailer. You can also use two car tire inner tubes under the enging and lash them together.
My personal record, 9000 lb hydroplane off the bottom of the Ohio river (about 35' deep, 500 yards from shore) , towed to shore, on a crane - 22 minutes. Total equipment cost is less than $50 (not counting tank and1st Stage).
One car tube will lift a motorcycle, Two - three car tubes will lift a car. One semi tube inside an econoline van and a couple car tubes on the front bumper. I used the same tubes to lift dozens of boats, cars, cycles, docks. Was crash crew director for APBA hydroplane regatta 22 years. Never lost or broke a tube, rope, clip, nothing.
One important note, suck all the air out of the tubes so that you can carry several to the bottom at once. One or two on each arm, air line in hand. Clip tube with valve on top, add a bit of air. After each tube is attached, make the rounds until it begins to rise. When it does, stop filling immediately. OK to be next to the tubes but avoid being above and obviously, never under the load.
Remember, all of those lift bags that are out of the water are not displacing water, therefore they are wasted! One cubic foot of water weighs 62.4 lbs so that is how much lift you get from a cubic foot of air under water. But as you know, the air will expand quickly so as soon as it is moving , there is already too much air in the lift. So if you can, give a little manual lift before it is rising on it's own. When I did the econoline van, I pushed it to the surface by hand (a very strange sight)!
Be Well!
Thanks Robert for the info. Always great to hear how others have/are doing it.
Not your first rodeo, is it?
@@AdventuresWithPurpose I enjoyed your video. But I got tired when I saw how big your air bags are...lol! I have a raised a 400 lb part of piling extractor for bridge contractor, 40,000 lb steel coil and a crashed seaplane with the passengers still in it (last two with cranes to lift). Watching you, I relived the whole thing...I just turned 72.
What's the old saying "whatever floats your boat".
The Air Force song was a nice touch lol
I'm glad you returned it to the owner. Owners boats sink and they leave it and the water becomes polluted. Sometimes they can't afford to get it out after it sinks. Great jobs guys.
You don't think they spent their time and their money retrieving a $17,000. boat and then GAVE it back to the owner, do you? I imagine several thousand dollars changed hands before this video was shot.
@@bentnickel7487 maybe..idk some people are nice some need the pay it's there job..respect and guidance
@@sheshehype7946 they gave the owner a good deal. They charged him half of what the other companies were quoting. The sister of the owner left a comment on the video.

Huh I missed this one but finally some awp for me â€ïž
Nice to see the process to float the boat
Hey ya got to choke it to start. I dove/dived scubaed, for many years, and I never found anything like that I stopped diving about the time that cell phones came in bags, so I never found one of those either. I miss it, they tell me 75 is too old to dive.
I say itâs not too old at all. Donât ever let others dictate your life. Just saw on the news a few weeks ago a 96 y/o who went scuba diving for his birthday.
Joh, and when the owner of this boat see this video he said: thank you for hauling, hahahaha
Ok i actually laughed out loud when he pushed the button on the phone at 2:23. Natural instinct i guess.....
Good work guys!
Good recovery.
But now don't forget to get the rear differential of the tow vehicle serviced. They suck in water when submerged like that.
@Grish Nakh US market Toyotas don't have them.
Most just have a breather right off the top of an axle tube.
@@trevors8577 correct. And once you submerge a warm axle into cold water, it creates a vacuum sucking in water. A lot of water! Enough to destroy bearings and gears.
And after this incident, think that's the last issue this guy needs.
BTW. If you plug the breather, it will suck water in from around the axle seals.
@@robertb6462 And it will blow oil out of the seals when it heats up again.
@Grish Nakh
Absolutely true. I'm a 20 yr diesel tech. My reference was as if doing it at the ramp for the recovery process.
They think your jokes are bad? What do you call a Buck found at the bottom of a river? A Riviera...lol
Must have been a lot of people , yikes . Pretty cool how you got it up đ awesome
I helped a guy get some boats once .
it was great fun.
Instead of using the compressed air tanks under water, we sent air hoses down. I had to keep the air compressor running and ate peanut butter crackers.
Now the real work begins getting it running again
They scrapped it after, it's not worth the trouble after two weeks.
12:00 Geez, how much weight did that guy have in the bow? I got a little jon boat I've loaded an 8500W generator and a crap load of fire wood at the bow and it didn't sink. That was around 800 lbs.
I used to own a Centurion exactly like this, the nose sits very low to the water (less than 12 inches) when you've got a few people up front. You have to be very careful when approaching another boat's wake at slow speeds because the wave will easily come right over the nose. If he buried it into a wave, it could easily happen.
@@lonestardiy9031 Exactly. I have a 03' Centurion Elite AW and with 3/4 ballast and a couple of people in the bow, going through a small wave the boat bow drops down and the wave comes right over into the boat. The best way I've countered this is by throttling up just before the wave to get the bow high enough to clear.
Like how you tried to start the engine guess it was flooded âș
I watch your channel all the time and I thank you for finding all of these missing people who are so missed and loved.
