In this episode of Adventures with Purpose, we head to the Willamette River in Portland Oregon to recover an old vintage work trunk sunk 25' underwater.
    Crazy... RIGHT?
So how did the Chevrolet truck sink?
We have a theory that over 60 years ago, the work truck was on an old work dock. One day the dock collapsed and the truck sunk underwater in the river.
Sad the never took the truck out of the river when it happened... 😱
    Now the GOOD NEWS!
Now that we've succeeded in pulling the sunken truck out of the river, floating it back to the boat ramp, the sees daylight for the first time in over 60-years!
What's our next underwater treasure hunting adventure going to find?

With the few that believes it was original down to the 216 stove-bolt inline six. With the few that was to try and restore what is left of the chassis when the engine may be too far gone to restore as those hope to resto-mod the project when the engine is likely tossed for something more modern.

Thats actually really cool! That trucks from the early 50s, possibly late 40s. Amazing condition too considering how long its been down there.
That engine some parts may be savable like Walt said. Man it breaks my heart to hear he passed away. He was educating you on that tar-top battery and starter button.
That transmission shifting is amazing. Just goes to show you how well stuff was made to last back then. The frame/chassis. If I had some spare time and whatnot, id try and hit it with the sandblaster and see if it goes to swiss cheese or actually comes off clean. Who knows, frame may actually be savable! Transmission in it certainly seems savable. I wouldn't scrap that thing at all. In fact i'd probably try and restore that frame if possible and put another cab on it and all, and it may even be strong enough to be rebuilt again.
If I could figure out a way to get them vehicles like this one from west coast to the east coast without spending a ton of $ in shipping, id certainly take them off your hands, lol.
Also a lot of them finds like the sawmill blade, ida pulled that up in a heartbeat. My grandfather used to have a sawmill and I've had blades like that over the years. Cleaned up their worth about $100+ a piece.

Nothing man can do will destroy the earth. We could set off every nuclear bomb in existence and the Earth will still be here. Human beings won't be there to witness it, but the earth would recover eventually.

I have some 12.50x16.5 mud tires, bias plies, from the mid 70s, mounted on original Ford 16.5x9.75 Camper Special Rims. Out in the sun for 40 years, and still holding air. Modern radials would be completely rotted after 5 years in the sun.

I know of a brand new truck that rolled into the Columbia River just below Chief Joseph Dam in about 1973. The truck had been purchased brand new in Spokane and driven to Bridgeport, the farmer got out and went inside his daughters house when the truck popped out of gear and rolled into the river. The farmers son in law told me that he witnessed it, the truck floated into the current which is pretty strong a mile below the dam. Divers searched for it but never found it. There are haystack rocks as large as houses underwater in that area, it is around 100 feet deep. The truck had only about 200 miles on it and was full of the farmers tools.

Oh man... he barely put any miles on that truck. Swift current at 100' deep is no joke.

Lol catch a grip. It has no body and the chassis needs replacing so does the engine. What is left to restore?

    • @3nigma379
      @3nigma379 Pƙed 4 lety

Chassis is still good if not pitted and as being fresh water its likely its not pitted. If engine isnt locked up and is taken apart immediately after out of water it may be savable or parts savable. Ive seen a couple cases of engines taken from fresh water or bogs being saved.

What year? Rick@classictruckrescue.com might know or at least have an idea. He specializes in ‘55 - ‘59 Chevy & GMC trucks though he has had older ones too. He doesn’t scrap American Iron. This one looks older to me. Guy there was right about “stomp starter” pedal.
Rick recently rescued a 1955 Seagraves PORTLAND FD Hook & Ladder Rear Tiller Fire Truck from northern Calif. He’s hoping to restore it and get it into Oregon parades to honor our brave Firemen. He’s got quite the collection of old American working trucks.
