- Adventures With Purpose (AWP), the renowned underwater sonar search and recovery dive team, has returned to Chicago for the third day of their intensive search operations. The team is dedicated to solving cold cases involving missing persons, bringing closure to families and aiding law enforcement.
MISSION OBJECTIVE:
AWP's Chicago mission aims to locate the following missing persons:
- Alo Giminez, last seen driving a 2007 Toyota Highlander.
- Homer Sullivan, associated with a 2003 Mercury Grand Maris.
- Armando Gomez, reported missing with his 2009 Dodge Caravan.
- James Dove, who was driving a 2019 Chrysler 300.
- Martin Smith, last known to be in a black Dodge Journey.
- Christine Fitch, whose last known vehicle was a 2005 white Jeep Commander.
Day 3 Highlights:
During the search, AWP discovered two submerged cars. These vehicles appeared to be over 30 years old, identified by their rotted roofs and deteriorated state. While these finds are notable, our primary focus remains on locating newer vehicles (less than 10-15 years old) that might be related to recent cold cases.
We faced several challenges throughout the day, including dealing with a pontoon boat with a leak. Despite these obstacles, we continued our thorough search, focusing on high-probability areas for more recent dumps. Bridges and secluded spots along the river were of particular interest, as they are common locations for dumping vehicles.
Interactions with Authorities:
We contacted the Chicago PD and discussed our findings with a detective from the violent crimes division. The detective agreed to help run the plates of the vehicles we found to determine if they were connected to any missing persons or criminal activities. We are eagerly awaiting the results of these checks to see if any of the vehicles belong to the missing persons we are searching for.

I may have mentioned this before but it worth saying again. In your video you state that you cover the area really well in your search so it's possible to write an area off... In many cases, I agree. But over my 20 plus years as a public safety diver, something I want to pass on, and I am pretty sure you are aware of this, but in case you are not...... Yes consider an area thoroughly searched, given the way I watch you guys run your sonar. However you will want to revisit an area if it experiences a couple days of sustained heavy flooding and strong currents, as this will change the bottom of the river as well as possibly cover or uncover vehicles. I have experienced this firsthand a few times..... Again I am pretty sure you are aware of this. Just wanted to make sure in case you were not. From one diver to the next, thank you for what you are doing. Making sure that people are brought home or bring closure to loved ones, is the greatest feeling we can give someone..... This has been going on for years. In the 80s the barges were complaining they kept hitting something on the bottom. They dove and found car piled on top of car. A woman by the name of Diane Masters was found in the trunk. Long story short it was connected to the Outfit.
I'm curious, how does one car come to be on top of another?

I was born and raised in Chicago and growing up I always hear how cars and bodies were dumped in the Cal Sag but I cant believe how clean the bottom is, thanks for coming to Chicago.

Have you looked into the Des Plaines River in Illinois? Definately a place many people have died in or been dumped into.
DesPlaines at its max depth is only 7 ft. On average it’s 3ft unless there’s been flooding. It’s too shallow to hide cars in.
@@beachbum7425yep the sanitary and ship canal gets dredged I believe occasionally for the barge traffic. And it's very long so I would imagine there would be alot of targets. There are alot of business and access roads along it meaning a lot of places that could be used as a ramp. Such a shame and they were wanting to clean the Chicago River up enough for people to swim in it . That'll never happen as long as we have people dumping cars in there.

Y’all are doing the lords work, bringing closure to families after decades. The Ankofski family that just went missing on June 21st in Moab, Utah after flash flooding should be trying to contact you guys for help! Search and rescue teams still have only found their UTV and the Husbands pants with his wallet and ID in a tree, bet you guys would have had them headed back to Texas where they can be laid to rest with their family.

Same! I was born and raised in Bridgeport, Chicago. My house was Literally one BLOCK from the Loomis/Ashland bridge near the orange line. I cannot count just how many bodies were found during my 26 years living in that area.

Cal sag is a filthy river lots of barges travel the cal sag. The cal sag has a great story on how and why it was built.i worked on the cal sag I was told if we ever fell in we would have to get a series of shot.

There have been people who have had limbs removed because of bacteria from the lake or river they swam in. They also died. Just be careful
Should check the Chicago River.. I used to live in Chicago, and back in late 80's and early 2000 it was always known of vehicle dumping..

You should look in Kankakee river hour south from Chicago there was a drowning of a 6 year old 2 days ago they recover the body but it brings into speculation how many people have lost they’re lives to that river and and many more we don’t know of there’s on spot in specific by the Kankakee river boat club where the road runs right along the river with about 15 20 feet of grass between the road and the water and when there’s heavy rain fall the water levels raise high and gain a strong current it flows for about a quarter mile after the road before dropping off about 5 feet at a dam

Chicago native here… seeing tires in lakes and rivers also means them being deliberately thrown in due to the fact you have to pay $2.50 to dispose of a tire in Illinois. So when you get new tires and get them installed by a shop you will see a disposal fee per tire

Someone jumped into the cal sag not that long ago. They got balls doing it he was running from the cops. Anyway cool videos interesting I live and used to hang out along and I&M and also sanitary shipping canal in willowsprings. Watch the people go fishing.
When you see barrels in the Chicago area... Do a search for Stacy Peterson and Blue barrel.
So basically the police said: we don't want to run these plates, because if some kind of crime is connected to them we are the ones responsible for dealing with it.

More or less yes. The area where this is filmed is associated with crime and high levels of it. Regardless if the plates were tagged to a murder, stolen vehicle/fraud it's a lot of paperwork and would essentially hold up the actual on-ground officers from doing their usual routine. So in this video, their best option would be to find an office worker/pencil pusher to run thoes plates. However since some of thoes plates are very corroded and hard to get identified it would more than likely have to be sent to lab to take a better course of action since the plates are from older to oldish vehicles the paint or the actual metal it's self could be lost entirely due to the fact that some bacteria in water can eat metal. I hope this helps and all states have different protocols when this pops up. Also keep in mind that Chicago is politically divided on a massive scale onto of its usual crime rates. So I'm not surprised the weariness from the police.
No, what the officer said was to call the major crimes unit. That unit has detectives assigned to work stolen vehicles, missing persons, and other criminal activity that might be associated with a car or many cars dumped in the river. The “beat cop” assignment is to respond to emergencies in progress and calls for service (9-1-1). Chicago PD and Chicago Fire have dive units and marine units that would work with major crimes unit to continue investigations. Chicago like other locations across the United States is grossly understaffed. They can’t be everywhere at once.

Yeah but in all honesty it likely is not THEIR choice to be still seen on here and Im pretty sure they dont see a dime of it, since Josh is being hit with lawsuits. Guess people just should leave the past behind and appreciate from all the good work they are doing. I didnt turn my back on any of them. With more teams more people can be found. And how the relationships are between them is none of our business. We only matter to support them. We all make mistakes and for some its fatal.

I could of gave you guys some spots guys. Literally. You may not of Gotton up your big rv and trailer there but you could have boated up. They put those signs up for liability and legal purposes because actual sewage can flood into it when water is up. And they also use some chemicals to disinfect the water along with high heat. But I’ve fished this shot for over 30 years and I’ve been absolutely fine. Your good. Don’t worry 😉 I’m disappointed you left he Chicago river. But all good

Why don’t you guys have cameras to drop down real quick? Wouldn’t have to dive you have all the sonar. In the winter the Chicago river is clearest then any other time of the year. I can’t speak for the cal sag but again, I know some spots, Legit. And it never ever freezes. I’d love to dive too ✌️👍🎣

Not a river case but my friends brothers been missing for a year here in sw lower mi police weren’t any help he walked off from a alcoholic recovery place they say and just vanished within minutes very rural area he had a brain injury from years ago so he couldn’t of gone far yet after searches nothing. We wonder if their was wrong doing and they got rid of him in a creek
