      This is what happens when you don't inspect/service the bellows and shift cable bellows. They rip and leak so fast the only option is to get it on the trailer. Batteries can only keep up for a short while. All I/O engines like this have to have the bellows and shift cable bellows changed at appropriate intervals. Especially, if the boat is going to be left in the water. This guy sounded like he didn't even know what they were or where they were.

      animal waste, male spraying and the smell...

  • @dirttdude
    @dirttdude Před 3 lety +4

    i've done sunk boat repairs, it usually ruins gauges and switches but most of the work is fuel tank flush, carb rebuild, tune up components, fluids change, wire harness couplers need to be cleaned and dried too.... its probably a total loss if it sinks in salt water

    • @danielebrparish4271
      @danielebrparish4271 Před rokem

      I had one in salt water. Performed the same steps and rebuilt the engine. Ran fine but it wouldn't get on step. Found a mechanic who couldn't repeat the problem until I told him to take it out of the tank and bring it out for a run on the river. It had a Johnson 70 hp engine with 3 carbs. When he took it out he used his hand to cover the intakes of each carb until he found one that didn't change the engine speed when blocked. Replaced that carb and we had a great boat again.

    • @finscreenname
      @finscreenname Před rokem

      I wouldn't go that far. It's not the salt water that kills it, its the air after it gets wet. I live on brackish water and have pumped some water in a few motors. Blown exhaust manifolds, head gaskets and even had a couple intake failures. You pull the oil drain plug and watch water run out for the first 20 seconds (oil floats) you have put some water in a motor. All were salvageable. The ones that were not caused by something else breaking got flushed and put back into service. Now gauges, upholstery, wiring, etc are a crap shoot.

  • @ygrowupmike
    @ygrowupmike Před 3 lety +4

    The boat is toast now. You have about 45 minutes to get it running before there is damage to the engine. You can leave it underwater for as long as you like but you must get it started right away after it hits the air. My boat sunk a few years back and I drained the carbs as soon as I got it onto the trailer. Had it running within the 45 minutes and everything was good with the engine. I did have to replace the steering cable afterwards as it too rusted up.

    • @danielebrparish4271
      @danielebrparish4271 Před 3 lety

      My boat flipped over in salt water. Had a 70 hp outboard motor. It was in the water for a week before I got it out. Three weeks later I took the powerhead off and replaced the bearings before starting it up. Ran fine but wouldn't get on step so I brought it to a shop. They said it ran fine so I talked them into bringing it to a nearby river for a retest. They discovered that one of the carburetors was cracked. Good as new after that.
