I honestly feel that Asians are getting taller these days. Not sure about other ethnicities /countries but as a gen X Chinese person from Southeast Asia, my height is 178cm the last time I measured. And honestly I’m slightly taller or at least the same height as other guys around my age group BUT I notice that guys who are around half a generation younger than me (around mid to late 20s) are starting to get taller and taller. It’s quite common seeing young Chinese guys break the 180cm mark these days. When I was in my early 20s a local guy who is 180cm is considered tall in my country, but nowadays it’s almost nothing to shout about. The tallest and second tallest Chinese guy I’ve known personally my country (both a lot younger than me) are 195cm and 193cm. Personally my ideal height is around 184-185cm but I’m about 20-25 years too late 😂

I've noticed the same thing. Young asian guys are getting quite tall even tall girls are getting common but not as much as guys
It's due to changes in diet. Asian tend to grow short because of their rice consumption.
I think Asians with their young adult population, for atleast in the USA, which includes Southeast Asians, are everybit as tall on average as us European Americans or maybe only slightly shorter on average. For European American men 5'9" or 175 cm is the average height in the USA. Have seen several Asian populations when they visit the USA that look taller on average then us European Americans like the Chinese from their northern provinces, the Persians from Iran and the Punjabi from either Pakistan or northwest India. The tallest people that I have ever seen was just last month shopping at a grocery store in my area near Mechanicsburg, PA. There were probably atleast 2 dozen black men with all of them looking over 6'4" with some atleast 6'9" or maybe taller. They were so tall that people asked to get a photo with them. Some people talked to a few of them and found out that they are from Africa in the South Sudan and that they call themselves Dinka or the name of their population in South Sudan in Africa. They made us European Americans look like midgets with only a very few small amount of European Americans somewhat close to their height but a large majority of us were alot shorter then these African people. These Dinka are giants when compared to European Americans like myself or us European Americans are just dwarfs when compared to these Dinka Africans however you want to look at it., lol!

3:10 I'm South Korean High school student and 170cm is definitely not our average height. The classmate who is 170cm is one of the shortest boy in our class. Also I'm exactly 180.7cm and I'm only 5th tallest guy in my class (among 28 students). Tallest classmate is 192cm. Old people often say I'm tall, but I didn't feel I'm considered 'tall guy' in younger generation despite I'm above average. Almost every groups and teams i belong, there are always taller guy than me.
Many statistic says South Korean male average height is 174cm and it is more accurate than any other country because EVERY SINGLE male in South Korea MUST take a physical examination because of the military duty. And the results is released every year by the government. I personally feel average height of S. Korean male among my age is 176cm.

Not always. It's largely genetic too. Look at qatar. One of richest countries in the world yet men are only 5'8. This country is richer than alot of european countries yet is still shorter than alot of europeans.
Not always. It depends on ethnicity too. Southern Asians tends to be smaller in height and also have smaller frame than Northern Asians.
But as you said living standards plays a huge role too, for example, height btw South Koreans and North Koreans differ a lot even though they have literally same racial features.

Well the information about Bangladesh is pretty old, currently it's 5'6.5'' for men and 5'2'' for women, though it varies from region to region ( ie. I live in Dhaka city where the male average is about 5'7'')

My height was 170cm and a few random guides say that I'm tall and ask me whether I'm joining the army lol.
I'm from Malaysia, when I'm in 12th grade my classmates are mostly Chinese. My height is the median among my classmates.
There were a few guys below 165, shortest being 159. about 2/5 of us are taller than 175, while the tallest guys are about 190 and 185.
Btw my classmates are on average the tallest among all classes.

In many Asian countries, the average height of men is only 8-12cm higher than that of women, and the height difference between men and women in European countries is basically about 12-15cm.

Hmm, yeah I believe it. I live near a 'Koreatown' and there are some tall Korean guys who are 6 feet and above but most are usually around 5'6'' or so. They're definitely the tallest East Asians though from what I can see.

Funny how Asians are labeled as short. While it is true that overall Asians as a whole are shorter on average then Europeans as a whole but in my experience as a European American is that the tallest average height people that I have ever seen are these Chinese on vacation in the USA coming from their northern provinces of China. Young adult Chinese men from these regions of China look atleast 6'0" or 183 cm on average with their women looking atleast 5'7" 170 cm on average. The tallest individuals that I have seen in the USA was from these to brothers at a mall in Harrisburg, PA with them looking over 7'0" and they looked like Iike they were from India or maybe living in the USA so they are Indian Americans I don't know but either way they are Indian and the 2 tallest people that I have personally seen. The short height Asian stereotype is from being compared to Europeans, European North Americans etc because on average Asians have a higher percentage of short height people then Europeans and Europeans have a higher percentage of average height people then Asians. But for tall height and especially extreme tall height I run into more Asians here in the USA then I do with European Americans. For Europeans the Dutch and the Scandinavians are tall but they represent a small percentage of the European population. For the most part a significant majority of European and North American European men etc are between 5'8" to 5'11" and a significant majority of European and North American European women etc are between 5'3" to 5'6". I am a European American man and it just seems that Europeans have a noticeably higher percentage of average height people then Asians. But from my experience in the USA it seems like Asian Americans have more people or a higher percentage of people that are very tall or extremely tall then European Americans and very short and extremely short then European Americans. The stereotype for Asians when it comes to height should be that they are both short and tall while the stereotype for Europeans should be average for height instead of tall for height. Since a majority of the world's population falls in the average height category Europeans get this tall height stereotype but in reality it really means the tallest average height. For myself in the USA it is normal to see Asian men both 5'4" and shorter and 6'2" or taller and Asian women under 5'0" are very common but I see tons of Asian women taller then 5'7" as well, especially if they are Korean and even more so with these northern Chinese women from the province of Shandong when they come to the USA for vacationing or on a business trip.
I like how Koreans here are butthurt over the average height of them being shorter than that of Japanese in this video. Japan is not the only country the average height of which is taller than that of Koreans in this video but shorter in reality, but Koreans here only say, "Japanese are shorter than Koreans!" They're so obsessed with us, aren't they?

As a white American or European American IMO and my experience is that the younger generation of South Koreans are slightly taller on average then us European Americans and most European countries and the younger generation of Japanese look equal to us European Americans and most Europeans. European American men are 175 cm although some websites have us at 178 cm but in my experience it is 175 cm which is what I see for most Europeans in Europe as well. With the Dutch and the Scandinavians it seems 180 cm or taller on average but most look in the mid 170s for men. The Japanese look about 172 overall but 175 cm for young adults in my experience. Korean men in the 21st century look 175 cm on average but more like 178 cm for young adult men. The tallest east Asians that I have seen walking around in the international Airports in the USA or walking around in the general population of the USA at our famous historical places come from Shandong or other northern provinces of China. To me they look 183 cm on average for men and 172 cm for women and on average make us European Americans look short when compared to these Chinese.
