Ellen Ripley in Alien? Probably the best no-makeup makeup of all time!
It’s a must!
Uhhhhhhh my favorite character of all time. LOVE THIS idea.
yesss please this!!!
@@toriahennesey Great idea!
@@samchapmanmakeupyes! My first thought as well
I love that these videos are about the psyche and character-building of film characters rather than the beauty side.
Also: longer videos with more details would be a treat.
this just proves that Sam is a REAL makeup ARTIST, she gets it!
Never ever did I consider the makeup telling a story until she did her last video. Make it a series, pleeeez!
Same here! I had to re-watch Silence of the Lambs after her last video. She totally nailed it!
Bailey Sarian did it first
@@sandyrice3559 me too!
@@NeckasFBIAgent not like this she hasn’t. Not that I’ve seen and I’ve watched her since she began her true crime channel.
Love this concept of recreating movie character makeup! Daryl Hannah's makeup in Blade Runner was fantastic, it thrilled me as a teenager seeing it.
+
I totally agree, would love to see that too!
Yes. I love Pris
I would love to see Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct! I absolutely love the format, the story, the beautiful makeup, and you for doing all these ❤
I second this. She is drop-dead gorgeous in this movie
Yes, please
Totally!
100%
YES!!
Adore this new direction! Echoing the rec for Helena in Fight Club. 👏🏻
I believe she has already done one but it was years ago
Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman in “Batman Returns” (1998) has interesting and beautiful makeup. There is a big transformation of her character Selina Kyle that translates into her make up as well. I think you have similar features so her makeup will definitely look good on you too.
That's a great idea!
I think she has done one, at least for the catwoman makeup, I can’t remember if she went over her make up as Selina Kyle
@@kchives9858 I did a quick search and you are wright. There does seem to be a Halloween makeup video from 2011 for a website called Beautylish, but it’s private :(
Sam did one. Great vid. Would love to watch it again @@kchives9858
Most welcome!❤
brilliant idea. happy to see you back in my feed. longtime follower here ❤
requested movie make up:
Angelina in Girl, Interrupted 😍
Thanks for the idea!
It’s so sad that Glenn didn’t win the Oscar for this. She absolutely deserved it and put in the work. The Academy doesn’t really like roles like this, which is probably why it went to Cher. Cher deserved the Oscar too, and I’m SO HAPPY she got it, but it’s still such a toss up for me! Anne Archer was also phenomenal in this, and is often overlooked because of Glenn’s stunning performance. 1987 was just an all around great year for the girls!
This is great. I remember the haunting scene of her sitting with the lamp cord in her hand, turning it on and off repeatedly x
I would love an updated version of your old Marla Singer video - the original was amazing and why I followed you. With newer, fresher products it would be fantastic 😍
I’m with you on this one, would love an updated Marla Singer one. And an Angelina Jolie and Winona Ryder in Girl Interrupted.
I second the request for Uma Thurman in Kill Bill! Particularly the scene when she first meets Hattori Hanzo, her makeup is so pretty there. You’re so good at observing the little details that really make the look!
YES! I was so closely observing her makeup and the way her whole persona was styled!
please keep this series.
Your personality shines through in every look you create, making you a standout in the industry. I have immense respect for your talent and creativity 🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 On a separate note, I must compliment your refined taste and poise 😌 You embody class and chic effortlessly! 🙌🏼
Thank you Sandra
Love this format, it's really interesting. Keep 'em coming!
How about Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, or Pulp Fiction? ... both fascinating characters.
Yes I agree with Emma. Please can you do to Mia Wallace - it is 30yrs ago that Pulp Fiction came out :)
BOTH!!
I have seen Fatal Attraction many times. The scene where their daughter is watching her parents fight she covers her face and begins to cry I always get teary eyed. You are spot on with the makeup the hollow eyes that Alex had. Rene Russo from Thomas Crown Affair I always remember how great her makeup always looked.
Great suggestion!
I love these videos and your explanations of the characters and why the makeup is done in a certain way. Thank you!
Glad you like them!
since 2006 you have been my favorite makeup artist on CZcams. love the lengthier content because it displays your knowledge, techniques, & intelligence in the best manner. keep staying so authentic & badass ❤
You gotta do a nakeup video of one of the female characters from the tv show Dallas. They were all so glamorous despite being housewives and for the 70s, each femake character looked different. They didn't go thru trends and just went for what looked good for each womans facial body shape, personality, and character. Very different from Charlies Angels. On that show every girl had to be tanned, a blow out, lip gloss, etc. Dallas was so different and i have never seen many episodes but the makeup always matched the clothing, even day makeup was so feminine and gorgeous.
Sue Ellen after an argument with JR, mascara smeared effectively to add drama, but how would Sam replicate Linda Grays lipwobbling. Great actress xxx
I love these videos!! I would love to see Helena Boham Carter in Fight Club and, Angelina Jolie and Winona Ryder in Girl Interrupted makeup looks ❤
she did the HBC in FC years ago but sadly the video isn`t up anymore. i hope she makes it available again or redoes it!
@@thecozyconstellationI know 😊😊❤❤❤ Thank you
@@thecozyconstellationI loved this video❤❤❤
Sam! This is such a brilliant series. Throwing Sharon Stones character from Basic Instinct into the ring.
YESS!! Thank you for making more videos like these. I absolutely loved your Clarice video and I was hoping for more. They remind me of your earlier videos. I remember I adored your videos about Helena Bonham Carter in Fight Club, Sigourney Weaver in Ghostbusters, Miss Argentina in Beetlejuice and Frank n Furter (although those last two could have been for Halloween, but still). I also remember others like the Elizabeth Taylor and the Alexis Colby from Dinasty one. TLDR: PLEASE MAKE MORE! :) PS I think it's a crime that Glenn Close has never won an oscar.
That moment of "im not going to be ignored dan" is just so incredible. Its so chilling!! Love this type of video and your hair is looking like mine does on the regular 😂 id honestly love to see Frank N Furter from Rocky Horror as his makeup goes through various changes throughout the movie (maybe closer to Halloween?)
I love that this makeup runs so contrary, in so many of its exercises, to what we've been conditioned to doing and seeing with makeup lately. Enhanced asymmetry, downturned effects, reduced definition, slipshod blending, eyelash minimalism - it's weirdly refreshing in its intended toxicity. I'd wear a look like this if I had PMS and wanted to seem as unapproachable as humanly possible.
Really enjoying these film make up videos. I love hearing about all the background for the actors and how the makeup evolves through the film.
Loved this so much! Glenn Close is a genius actor and should have won an Oscar for Fatal Attraction. Your makeup recreation was amazing!
I love this new idea of makeup tutorial! I have never recognized a connection between the makeup and the development of a film character before. Funny fact, I recently watched Fatal Attraction because I felt the need for some good 80s vibes. I already liked this movie, but now with your thoughts and insights about it, the movie is even more interesting to me and makes me think about it with more profundity.
this reminds me so much of one of my all-time favorite videos of yours, your Selina Kyle makeup tutorial!! I used to rewatch that one CONSTANTLY, not even just for the makeup but for the way you talked about her as a character
Being a film lover and of makeup these videos are everything may they continue! 💜
I cannot tell you how much I've loved these last two videos. You're combining two of my very favourite things. Cinema and make up! I'd love to see your take on Sharon Stones make up in basic instinct. Iconic 90s!
I love background info of movies! Love these video's! Thank you Sam, I enjoyed it very much!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love these videos so much.
Love when the makeup mirrors the complex character. Maybe you could do Bette Davis 'Of Human Bondage' as the makeup story of that one is interesting. Or even Kim Novak in Vertigo, as Hitchcock was so obsessive over the makeup.
I also vote for Marla Singer 😂, but I know you've already done that years ago. ❤
I love this series so much, I want all the info and all the looks haha. I'd love to see you do Cher in Moonstruck or The Witches of Eastwick.
Returning to add: this may be a stock answer, but I think my favourite movie makeup has to be Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction. Mia Wallace's de-evolution from crisp blood-red lip, matte skin, and manicured brows to sickly, sweaty complexion and melting mascara is my Roman Empire.
I'm also weirdly obsessed with the makeup from Heathers (1988). In the beginning, with the school hierarchy is being established, you can really see where the 80s is starting to develop into the 90s: heavy makeup that still has a naturalistic effect. Then later on, when Shannen Doherty and Winona Ryder are butting heads in the power vacuum, both of them are wearing red lipstick to assert dominance. But since Shannen/ Heather Duke has the social upper hand, her lip is more of a bloodied crimson, while Winona/ Veronica's is softer and warmer and brighter, as if defying her lost innocence and her disillusionment. Heathers really went all in with its fashion and styling.
O. M. G.!!!! Absolutely love this!!! ❤❤❤❤. ( I haven’t watched yet. I knew immediately from the title and look!)
Please more of these! I am absolutely loving them 🤩
I'm really loving these videos. It's fascinating to hear about the characters from your perspective as a MUA. Totally happy to watch whatever you decide you want to film. Your passion for your art shines through and that's what I love to watch 🙂
Oh my gosh - I watched Fatal Attraction at the movies when it was first released. It was absolutely riveting and the second half pure creeping dread. It was so risqué for the time. I found the end particularly disturbing, but now that I'm in my late 50's, and as you say, we have so much more understanding and empathy for mental health conditions, I just find it really sad. I love these Sam; please do more. I actually really love this makeup look. Xx
LOVE this Sam! Keep these movie themes going! X
I am loving everything about these. thank you
Glad you like them!
My absolute favorite videos. I like the chatty and don't mind them being longish. I loved the old videos on your other channel where you would just chat about random stuff. This series is fascinating. What about actresses from older films like Joan Crawford? Mildred Pierce? Mommy Dearest? That could be fun.
love the descriptions of a film character’s story arch through makeup
You’re so clever. Really interesting and great to watch, so thank you. The film that always sticks in my mind is Whatever happened to Baby Jane. Bette Davis was incredible in that and I loved the makeup. I’d love to learn more about it. Thanks Sam.
I'm loving these, Sam! It's perfect as it is. Very informative and different. Can we have Audrey's makeup when she's sat in her window singing Moon River? I love that makeup so much.
I love this series so so much Sam. I still remember how cool your Marla Singer tutorial was ages ago. In this Alex Forrest one, as soon as you added the lip liner I was like, WHOAH. Fascinating to see how you break these looks down.
Angelina Julie in By the Sea her eyes are beautiful. Love your take on these videos.
Love this Sam! if you haven’t, please watch the film The Game, with Michael Douglas! One of my faves xxx
it was a lovely surprise to see the woman who taught me to do makeup recommended on youtube again after all this time, doing such a fun series. sam you look fantastic as ever. i'd love to see any marlene dietrich look, from any of her films
Love this! Please could we have a Michelle Pfeiffer as Selena Kyle look next?
LOVE this new series and so many of people's suggestions in the comments. Maybe for a more full on OTT 90s - Elizabeth Berkley or Gina Gershon in Showgirls? Plus there is so much great trivia about it.
Kyle McLachlan was asked on a podcast what the worst film he's ever seen is and immediately said that. 😅 Personally I think it's the most iconic campy trash ever.
I also loved Fatal Attraction - not watched it yet but there's a series with Joshua Jackson. Although I did see the play in London years ago - Natasha McElhone played Alex and Charlotte from Sex and the City played the Anne Archer role.
I am so happy you created another one of these. I ❤ these deep dives into looks
You can do these film-look makeup analyses all day long, I will never get tired of them! I get so many great ideas and it’s so fun to think about how the makeup is so important to creating character!! And you look gorgeous!
Sam, just loved this! So good. I never noticed the change in her makeup and wardrobe. I’m going to rewatch the movie now. ❤
Youre beatiful. That hair I have naturally with curls. I dont like my hair. Nice tutorial and I really like that film.
Brilliant!! The Hair and the eyes made Alex. Brava!!
I'd love to see the makeup from The Cell with JLo. Such an underrated movie, scary as heck, and the costumes and makeup were out of this world.
That film is crazy scary and the disturbed character she visits in the dream world.....he is terrifying. JLo's costumes were stunning.
I knew immediately from the thumb nail! Love these, old school style CZcams where people made the content they wanted for fun and creativity not just because it would get views!
Love this series and that the looks demonstrate not only the character but the progression and story line of the films! So cool! ❤
Sam, I was attending USC film school in the 80s when this came out in theaters. I saw the movie in West Los Angeles where people were standing up in their seats and shouting at the screen when Alex was doing her thing. I adore Glenn Close and I’ve always been obsessed with this movie for many of the same reasons you pointed out. Thank you for this excellent breakdown on the make up. I am a make up fiend and I’ve followed you for a long time. I think you’re brilliant. Please do more of these. I love them! ❤
Thank you for this great comment
I am so glad to have found your channel again! You are one of my favorite makeup artists and you’ve influenced my makeup style significantly. I love this series of going over characters’ makeup looks and discussing the makeup choices in the context of the story. Thank you for sharing your craft!
Love your Beautiful Brain!!❤ Nothing better than the dissection of a complex character & how the external truly reflects the internal soul
I absolutely love it when you do these tutorials. I like it when you go into detail about the movie!
Thanks, Sam. I LOVE, Fatal Attraction. You are always amazing to watch!
You are brilliant Sam! ❤
I agree, Glenn Close should have won an Oscar for this role
PS Yes to Kelly LeBrock hair in Weird Science 😊
This is fantastic. I love the film analysis. I love the makeup. I haven’t seen the film (way too dark for my taste) but of course I’m aware with the film and always thought Glen Close looked amazing! I could never understand why they wouldn’t think she could do “sexy”. Anyways she also just a top tier actress she’s brilliant in everything she does. Thank you so much for the video! Can’t wait to see more like this!
I absolutely adore this series! I love the info you give about how the makeup, hair, and wardrobe inform the characters. Longer would be amazing. I love listening to all the insight you have!
Wow wow wow! Perfect balance of make up and film info! Bravo again girl 🎉
I absolutely love this format. It's refreshing and so interesting. Please go on !
PS : I'd love something a bit 90's and/or a bit gothy/witchy.
Cameron Diaz in the Mask was always my favorite movie makeup. When you did the Bond girl series way back- I always hoped you would branch out and do other movies!! This is the kind of tutorial that’s so enjoyable for us movie lovers.
Please please please kore of these!! This is exactly the type of thing I love on CZcams and you absolutely nailed the makeup look and feel!! Much luv
Love this, Sam! Please make it a series.
Another lovely surprise!!!! Keep them coming and the longer the better. I love them too because I’m seeing/learning new makeup techniques that I don’t ever see ❤❤❤ the hair was brilliant I knew exactly which film it was before I clicked on it. 😂
Absolutely love this! Such a different take on a make up video! You did a brilliant job. Makes me want to watch the film again and pay closer attention to the make up. Would be good to see some stills of her in the film as you go along to illustrate. Can’t wait for the next one! ❤
This is an inspired series… Brilliant… Today’s look gives me strange flashbacks… love it 😂
Please do more of these!! I know 0 about film makeup design but want to start applying for MAs in film soon and this is FASCINATING
Like being able to reference the exact original colour of a specific lipliner from a specific brand, and knowing that was where it came from???? That's amazing
Obsessed with this series, please keep them coming! More info/detail/analysis, the better!
Fabulous analysis on the character which actually made me like the character. The makeup is gorgeous.
She’s a sympathetic character imo. Dan, on the other hand, is just a selfish prick
@@samchapmanmakeup agreed! He’s the actual villain in the movie
Love this look Sam. You actually look like Helena Christianson. ❤️
This film was epic when it came out I remember it well and it was lovely seeing you so the makeup and talking about it xx
Brilliant film , brilliant makeup, you are the best Sam 🎉🙏✨🌟I'd love to see your take on some of Keira Knightley's makeup looks, especially in Atonement, in the scene with that Green dress, (or Anna Karenina...). Also the Mia Goth's makeup looks are all pretty cool...
I'll check it out!
I still remember your old video on Bella's wedding makeup! It was so pretty. I remember you getting into the makeup story instead of the plot. 🤭💄👰♀🎨
omg i love this format and how very passionate you are on the character it made me want watch the film! I just might. I would love for you to do a longer one for any characters that you find interesting because I will watch it for your commentary, makeup, hair and everything else you want to include. Thank you for being an inspiration, Sam
Thank you for watching and leaving such a lovely and thought through comment.
You nailed it, girl!
Really enjoying this makeup , knowledge about the character, a good series to continue….. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🔥🇬🇧xxx
Love love love this type of video. Grew up watching you do makeup recreations from things you love! You taught me about siouxsie sioux and I’ll forever be thankful
This is the first I’ve seen of this series and I couldn’t look away! I love all the research you did and the parts you chose to explain, and how you pointed out things like the phrase “bunny boiler”. I really loved this, please make more ❤️
Wow, thank you!
These videos are SERVING
I'd love to see Isabella Rossellini's makeup in "Blue Velvet" 💙
Really interesting on the makeup/movie info.. yes we all want the longer videos :-)
I love this new series of videos combining make up and film! Right up my street. Especially 80's films ❤ Please could you do Single White Female, or The Hand that rocked the cradle?
Omg. You look gorgeous. Even when recreating a women descending into chaos. Love Glenn Close and that film too. Keep it up. Thanks.
I LOVE this series
Loved this so much! I would love to see Paula Langley from Maid!
Fascinating! I hung on your every word! More, more, more!🌸🐝
love these last 2 videos , would love a longer format , so interesting , going to watch fatal attraction right now and watch with new eyes ❤
Love the idea for this series on characters and their makeup. Your commentary is erudite and full of insider knowledge is which is fun. Fleabag's makeup comes to mind for a complex character that goes through and evolution. Another two that are complicated characters with great looks are Yennifer and Tissaia from the Witcher.
I am loving this series concept you’ve started!! What about doing Geena Davis in the Long Kiss Goodnight, after she transitions into her assassin character Charlie!!! That’s a great underrated movie I loved!!
I love that movie ❤
This needs to be a series! Super interesting ❤ I love to do not-pretty makeups 😊
Love this video! Fascinating to hear about the film from a makeup artist’s perspective. For one of my degrees, I studied screen play writing and analysing the main characters to base the screen play around. While I loved doing this particular subject, it totally wrecked watching any film or even tv show, as I am constantly critiquing the lack of continuity, the glaring errors that somehow slip through editing and of course my husband hates me pointing all of this out to him…😮. And, Sam I would love, love, love much longer videos if you are willing to make them. I love everything about makeup and now will be paying even more attention while ‘watching’ movies 🎉
Thank you for the tutorial, you definitely made me want to watch the film!
Why is this so fun?!! Ha I love these videos they’re interesting and fun to see you recreate the makeup from these films. Would love to see more from more films
