    She gave one of the most legendary performance in cinema in that movie. I can never be on his side in the movie because what he did was selfish and thoughtless for both woman. He took a chance with a woman that so happened had mental problems and he, at least, should've confessed it to his wife when he learned that. The character trying to kill off someone to solve his problem only added to his selfishness. The movie (using the alternate take) ending with him going to prison and her tossing the tape, divorcing and moving on would've been justified.

    I would have preferred the original ending with a twist. She tries to off Douglas because if she cannot have him - no one else should. Injures him - thinking he's dead - she offs herself but Douglas survives. Douglas is left with a permanent scar of some sort - a daily reminder to himself and family of his betrayal.

    The ending should of been similar to the original deleted ending, after listening to the tape Beth hears something she doesn’t like and finds disturbing. You should of been left wondering if she would use the tape to help her husband and then cut to Alex kill herself. A double shock ending.

    I would love to see her reprise the role some way. Of course, in the original she died so that's a bit of a stretch but I actually cared for her character. I thought Michael Douglas' character was an asshole. Not that it excused boiling bunnies, lol... but anyways... it would be fascinating to see her play a similar character to Alex but in a way that she wants to do it, from Alex's perspective, or whatever that character might be.

  • @DeepScreenAnalysis
    @DeepScreenAnalysis Před 5 lety +36

    Both endings are unsatisfying... here's how I would have written it: Alex turns up at the family home when Dan is not there, and stalks Beth and Ellen through the house (who are hiding in terror). Once Dan arrives home and intervenes, he attacks Alex and they fight, causing a candle to be knocked over and a massive fire to begin. As the fight rages on, Dan gets out of Alex's clutches and looks for his wife and child. As Alex chases Dan through the now burning house, he finds Beth and Ellen and the family desperately navigate their way out of the house. As Beth begs Dan to stay, he is overtaken by rage for Alex and goes back into the house to confront her but she intentionally goes to where the fire is most ferocious, trapping herself. Whilst trapped, Alex's personality transforms from a psychotic woman to a terrified little girl and Dan's fury changes to pity. Finally, he tries to rescue Alex, but she tells him to leave her alone. As the fires flare up around her, Dan is forced to give up on the rescue and is forced to save himself. Beth, thinking Dan has died, screams in agony, only for him to emerge from the house for an emotional reunion with his family. Together, they watch it burn and the last shot would be their family photograph in the hallway wreathed in flames.

    Its funny every time I see Glenn Close I see her as Alex Forrest! Has she ever been on the actor's studio? She never got an Oscar and she was long overdue and I was so sure she would win for 2019! She lost. I always loved Glenn Close and she does good movies and she never disappoints but Fatal Attraction made her into a huge superstar. I really hope she wins an Oscar. A lot of men have come up to her and thanked her for saving their marriages b/c of Fatal Attraction. Did you guys know that Sharon Stone auditioned for the part of Fatal Attraction???? She got Basic Instinct instead. That made her into a super star. She has the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and now I wish these two Actresses would get an Oscar! I like Sharon Stone too. When I saw Basic Instinct I didn't feel like a victim after that movie.

  • @jako3214

    Movie (34 yrs later) absolute ART and ages like fine wine. Alex was the furthest thing from simply a 'crazy pain in the ass b!tch villain' w/ 0 depth who needed to 'pay and pay badly' That' thinking was very 1987/88.
    The GP (& surely middle, older white men in the Academy...even female voters) simply did NOT like her character at ALL. So...even THEY felt by not 'rewarding' her would be punishment.
    TODAY, the *brilliance of her verbal but esp NON verbal (and, yes, 'what' was up w/ the father etc..) THOSE things critics would zone in on (how/*why did she become this person). Esp Post Me2. In '87 Douglas was considered the 'victim' when HE did waay more of a # of her very broken mind and soul then she did (even w. the bunny boiling lol)! Her entire makeup was of an ABUSED woman (from childhood).

  • @Angel-xd9lt
    @Angel-xd9lt Před 3 měsíci

    I heard that Fatal Attraction is now a play in London Royal Theater. Kirstin Davis played Beth and it was a play by James Dearden and only Glenn Close could play this role. She did her research and she nailed it.. and I think Alex was a victim or so than a villian she was cast aside and she was a victim.

  • @jako3214
    @jako3214 Před 3 lety +2

    And FULLY agree (glad Glenn does now too) esp in '87 u NEEDED that revised ending. Yes, way less artistic and REAL but it's *Hollywood and all abt $$. Was nothing like it before (only endless lame wannabes after).
    She suffered severe BPD (at the min) and most, if not all the time, they end up most harmful to themselves. OG ending waay more sophisticated but less 'thriller suspenseful shock value' to the GP. In the bathroom w/ Beth she starts cutting herself. THAT was clearly at attempt to retain who/what she really intended to do to herself! Also, if they kept OG ending **Archer would've prob had a better shot at the Oscar! She SHINED in the scene listening to tape!

  • @pixiewings21_9
    @pixiewings21_9 Před měsícem

    Oscar is looooong overdue for Glenn. Her take on Alex's past is interesting. I might have thought there were abandonment issues going on with her father - emotionally unavailable, which turned her into this clingy (and unhinged) woman. !ncest never occured to me when I watched it initially.

  • @MonicaM96
    @MonicaM96 Před měsícem +1

    "We decided she had been incested by her father at a very early age long enough to damage her". I'm not a psychiatrist but I don't think Alex Forrest suffered abuse, sometimes we can't explain somebody's behavior but she was unhinged. Also it is hinted in the film that her dad died of a heart attack and she lied and said he was alive. Dan Gallagher breaks into her apartment and finds a newspaper clipping and confirms it.
