Finally found a channel where the person stays on point, and doesn't stray too far. Thank you much
Thanks for watching!
Three years late to the party.... but of all the videos I’ve watched about the machine, this video is by far the best! Good work man.
Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
Best Demo of the Electribe I have seen on CZcams
Thanks for watching!
@@SoundsAndGear thanks your videos a more direct
Somehow you managed to make the only good video on CZcams about a 20 year old piece of gear. Thanks man!
LOL!!!! Thanks for watching. Not quite 20 years old though lol.
I just purchased the unit two weeks ago and although the manual is good, your tutorial is great. You explained a lot of functions and saved me a lot of time learning the features. Thanks a lot.
Awesome, glad to help, thanks for watching!
This is definitely the best tutorial video I have seen for the Electribe Sampler. I have just bought a used Electribe 2 Sampler (the red one). I also have the Volca Keys, Volca Sample, a Pocket Operator PO-20 and a Yamaha SU-10 vintage sampler, besides a number of MIDI keyboards. Many thanks for such helpful advice and please keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching, glad to help!
Dude you are the best I spent one year looking for a good video and this is the first one that actually explains what this thing does!!
thank you so much
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this awesome review/tutorial. I just got the Red version with 2.0 loaded. I was still stuck on some things so I was starting to get buyers renorse. Not anymore. Just prodeuced a banger in 20 minutes. Korg should give you a bag for this.
Glad to help, thanks for watching!
The best ever demo i have ever watched on electribe. Thanks a ton for the beautiful explanation
Sorry I missed this comment, it just showed up on the new comment manager, but thanks!
Solid video. This has been on my radar for awhile. Looking to pair it up with fm. thanks for posting this. Korg is raising the bar here.
+Jim Shannon Thanks for watching man!
I have Learned more from this video than i have in a year reading the manual coming from MPC line of Sequencing its been a struggle for me. Salute !
Thanks fam! I'm an old MPC head as well!
I always like your reviews. Very to the point, good balance of opinion. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the support!
The fact you can use this standalone is a nice selling point. Thanks for putting this on my radar.
+davidevoid yes indeed, that's a major point for me
+SoundsAndGear.com I have an Arturia Beatstep which is okay as a controller and SparkLE which is good for crafting sounds but has some niggles such as having to be hooked up to a computer, bugs and latency issues. This on the other hands looks like it just works... which is a relief! I always thought the Electribe was more techno orientated, good to see it can be used any way you see fit by importing samples etc.
+davidevoid Yeah, I think the original electribes were more elctro/techno but the newer ones have more universal sound and the sampler of course sounds like whatever you want.
at 21:50 you can preview and trigger an user sample by entering "trigger" mode... You were in keyboard mode at that time.
You can preview it before loading? Cool. I tried it in trigger mode as well when I had it didn't work, I was never able to figure out how to preview from the browser, no doubt I could have missed something though. I no longer have this so can't try it again. Good to know though.
+SoundsAndGear.com I just got the unit a week ago and updated the firmware. I'll do a couple videos because it's worth giving it a second chance. especially since you are going modular crazy.
+Ave Mcree Cool, glad you got it going. Maybe they changed it in a firmware. I have no desire to try it again though unless they improve the sequencer and pad response lol.
SoundsAndGear.com can't lie about that since I've owned both the MPC2000 and currently own the MPD232. The pads aren't the best. However, I'm not tripping about the results of sequencer not having the ability to not quantize.
+Ave Mcree I don't use quantize so not being able to turn off the grid is huge for me. Couldn't really get the feel I like. I wouldn't mind the pads if they improved the velocity curves/response.
Such a useful review and walk through! Hits all the points a musician would want to know about. Will be subscribing, great demo! Thanks!
Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
This is probably the best showcase/review of the Electribe Sampler I've found on CZcams thus far. I am disappointed however that you did not deal with timeslicing a sample loop. Yeh I know you sample that Volca Keys note but I'd like to have seen you import, slice then sequence a 2 bar sample into something new. I'm seriously considering buying the Electribe S2 Red and your video is really encouraging. I've got a Novation Circuit but I want something on which I can chop samples. Thanks.
+Dino Goldie thanks for watching. I would not use this to chop samples, but that's just me.
+SoundsAndGear In which case, what bit of kit (in the same price bracket) would you recommend for beatslicing and sample chopping? Why wouldn't you recommend the Electribe Sampler2 for sample chopping? If it's no good as a sampler, why not get the Blue Electribe or the Novation Circuit? Can you recommend a good Sampler for
The sampling/chopping on Electribe is not very robust. I would look into something purpose made for that workflow like the MPC, Maschine, and similar samplers.
Thank you for another great review! For sequencing background beats with motion I am hoping this can be a poor boys Akai. I live in extreme poverty as a musician, buying a bunch of volca's and analog synths is not an option. I have a Roland Gaia for making solos over the sequence. Maybe this will do for the money.
Sorry I missed this, new comment manager on here showed me a bunch of comments I missed. Thanks for watching!
If you dont like the velocity sensitivity that much, that's what the Amp knob is for.
I also see nothing wrong with the quantize, since you have options like "Off Beat" and sensitivity to fine tune it to give it a more natural sound. It appears to work better than Ableton even with Ableton's quantize turned off. The Electribes have always had a more organic sequence sound than most sequencers. One thing I havent seen anybody mention is the Accent button feature the old Electribes used to have. Im going to still cop the new red Electribe sampler with or without the Accent feature, but I'll miss it.
If that works for you, cool but controlling via Amp knob does not equal velocity sensitivity. I like to actually play my sounds in, with velocity. So for me, the pad sensitivity is horrible. The sequencer can be worked around, but again, I don't quantize at all, and don't like programming, nudging, moving steps, etc...I'm used to simply playing in what I want so for me there are much better options in terms of sequencing. However, for those that don't mind all the extra steps and options for tweaking after the fact, they'll probably enjoy this. Thanks for watching!
SoundsAndGear Sometimes what appear as limitations in hardware can be blessings in disguise. When I owned the Electribe ES-1, it had no velocity, and I'm pretty sure no way to turn off the quantize. Using the Accent feature, it created some of the most organic and least robotic sounding drum patterns out of all the sequencers I've used, including the MPC2000 and Emu SP1200 to name a couple of the dozens.
Has the OS upgrade they did for the release of the red Electribe sampler addressed any of your sequencer and velocity concerns? I've heard many people say they addressed the key issues with the new OS.
Word. Everyone is different though. I'm all for quirks of different products, and they do cause you to work differently. However, if I don't like the workflow overall, or I can't get the feeling I want without a bunch of steps then I'm not going to use it. I just prefer a different way of playing/sequencing than what this can offer. I do not know if the update addressed any of the issues as I no longer have this device.
If you like grooveboxes, you should totally check out the Synthstrom Deluge. It's pricey, but a lot less limiting than the cheaper grooveboxes. It can sample, has an awesome grid layout, is rechargable(user replaceable 18650) and is even getting an update to support MPE in the future.
I've seen it a few times, not sure it's something I'd get into but you never know.
I have an E2S... I bought it months ago, didnt like the limitations and bought an MPC1000 and grew to love its capabilities and features. Just when I was about to sell my E2S I started making a beat on it and realized that i wanted to keep it because i like what it DOES do... The design and build are excellent except for the one thing of the relationship between the display, the oscillator and value knob, the hand turning said knobs and the eye reading the display.... Sometimes i think the display should be on the right side but i guess left handed people will like this.
One question I have is can I in Pattern Set mode, press a series of pads and have the machine play the patterns back in that sequence?
+Diallo Khari Yeah there is a way to chain the patterns together, I believe it's called "pattern set"
Best review of the Electribe Sampler! Thanks!
+Noisy Batt Thanks for watching!
yu da man! No nonsense and very informed overview-Thanks!! I'm off to buy one now-Mark 2 of course
Thanks for watching!
This is by far THE BEST reviw so thanks a hundert for uploading it. I just wonder if you save a loop from Electribe Sampler onto your SD card and export it as you did in Ableton, can you edit it and manipulate it and save it on your card again and reiport it?
+trellastabouna Thanks for watching! When you export it is straight audio, so you could warp it for example then load it as a sample in the elctribe if you wanted to. Or process it with fx then export it to your card to load on the electribe.
+SoundsAndGear.com Thank you very much for your reply once again. Your vid is the real manual... last but not least: If I want to create a setlist(for rehearsals and live performance) so I can play other instruments on the beats without having my hands on the machine all the time(if not at all), then which is the best way to do it?? Should I create the beat of each song on electribe, export it, combine all the tracks in one in Ableton and then import/load the whole audio as imported audio? Thanks in advance!
+trellastabouna You could do it like that, really just depends on how you like to work honestly.
Man, nice groove. Nice watching you work.
Thanks for watching.
Man, you know your shit.
By far the best music demo / tutorial for this instrument. I just watched half a dozen top-level instrument bloggers do lesser jobs of this.
...
Drum beats: can you edit the sound's tone / volume etc like you could with MCP1000s (my only reference point is the MPC1000), where you can make it as high or low as you want -- super high or low?
Can you crop / cut the drums/ samples with the machine? Can you move a note a little up or down to offset it in the sequence (ie timing) like with swing?
How is drum pad sensitivity / coordination? Can you play drum beats manually fast and it plays them correctly without lag? It looks good from your demo.
How does this compare with the EMX, which does a lot of the stuff I want to be able to do - making songs with beats, samples and effects.
Thanks for watching man!
1. Yeah, more or less, you can edit each sound as you wish, including filters, fx, per sound.
2. You can adjust the start/end of samples, but it's not fun lol
3. I wasn't a fan of the pad sensitivity overall.
4. I haven't used the EMX so I can't compare to that sorry
i need this in my life
+Boaz Eilander Thanks for watching!
Superb, and detailed review, as always, Saintjoe. You're getting me excited about this, but I'm more a computer/midi guy... haha.
+chriscauldermusic Thanks for watching!
Superb review! Now I shall buy one!
Thanks for watching!
Came for a review, got an awesome tutorial. Thank you!
Glad to help!
Man this is a great tutorial keep up the great work!!
Thanks for watching!
Best review of korg e2 so far.
+TheIanetavaJChannel Thanks for watching!
Really surprised about stereo samples taking 2 pads. Also can you change the metronome sound? That sound is really off putting. The samples sound really good though. Thanks for the review as always
+Flux302 of Fluxwithit.com I didn't find it, doesn't mean it's not there but it wasn't evident to me lol.
My guess is the data on that one pad is so you can turn off the metronome and put a hi-hat or kick on there if you feel like it and get started without those annoying bleeps. For live use.
My big gripe with this device is that patterns are only 4 bars. If not for that limitation, I would probably buy one.
+Tasteful Tuna Could be for that reason I suppose, seems weird to lose a pad for that though. More than 4 bars would be nice too.
I don't think the idea is to "lose" a pad, but to have a pad ready just in case, which you can erase when ready. I kind of get what they were going for. I'd probably find it convenient to just load a closed hi-hat and leave the metronome off (although it'd make sense to have a menu option to turn the feature off). With the 4 bars, however, I have no clue what they were thinking.
+Tasteful Tuna Yeah, I'd prefer an option to change/control the metronome sound from the global menu lol
there is suppose to be a kick on that first pad. atleast when i got mine there was a kick on it. i guess the kick file is corrupted or removed
Not when you initialize the pattern. I really have no use for it, not sure why they made it a default.
a great review on how this work ; best I have seen on youtube
Thanks for watching! Glad to help.
Great to hear some alternative sounds to the generic electronic beats that most reviewers tend to showcase.
Thanks for watching!
Such a cool tutorial, I bought this becz I read this was a great beginner’s groovebox, all I wanted was an eazy drum machine w a few bells n whistles that didn’t cost an arm and a leg, but mine didnt come w a manual (ebay) and I be feelin totally lost, bcz this lil gem is complex af.
Anyway, you give a solid introduction to navigation and capabilities. So thanks 🙂
Glad to help!
If I want a portable sampler that is easy to use (i have no experience at all) and not too expensive, is this the sampler i should go for? I would mostly import my own samples and (try) to some Hip Hop oriented music... I don't want it too easy as well, because i want to improve and get a better understanding of samplers and music in general. Anyway, I'm just looking for something that I can have a lot of fun with and carry around wherever I go!
This is really the only thing out there right now, other than maybe the Roland Sp404 which is also another option. Unfortunately companies aren't making many portable samplers these days.
That's the option I would prefer too... I don't know which electribe i should go for though, electribe 2 or electribe sampler 2? What's the difference and which one should i pick?
I think we discussed this on another video already? Just making sure :)
Louis Schuler you could get an Mpc500. Its small, portable and can run on batteries. Its a very capable and overlooked sampler.
well maybe you should also consider the Novation circuit. also very straightforward. Great builit-in synths and allows great creativity. AND the Circuit is beautiful, whereas the Korg is really ugly. Though the more I look at it, the more I want it. But chekck out the Circuit.
best review so far!! have you or anyone here, had problems with the sequencer? with mine it just plays one the same sound on every pad that's pressed.
+Jerin Parsons thanks for watching, sounds like you may have it in keyboard mode?
SoundsAndGear.com Unfortunately not, all the other modes work fine. just sequence mode doesn't, when i play in a sequence it makes all the pads I've pushed play the same note. I really like this machine but can't find anything on the sequencer in the manual.
I haven't hooked it up to my pc yet, I'm just using it standalone. Do you think there's some update on the computer i need to do that might fix it?
Hmmm, not sure, possibly. I don't know if I used that mode. I think you can change the note some how per step but it's been a while since I had this unit in for testing.
Really cool. Thanks 4 that. Love my E2s. Have learned something.
Thanks for watching!
I have been using mine with Cubasis on the iPad, they work well together.
Thanks for a great review as always.
+Sidewalk Musik TV NICE! Just as a midi controller? Do the knobs and such control the devices in Cubasis?
+Sidewalk Musik TV I Just use the Cubasis sequencer because I find the 4 bar sequencer a bit limiting and because the iPad mini is so small I still get the stand alone vibe but I also use it the same way in Maschine and Pro Tools.
+Sidewalk Musik TV NICE, sounds like a good workflow. Using it as a sound module...cool.
Thanks for the demo, I'm considering different samplers for my studio and do use Ableton Live as well as Logic Pro.
No problem, thanks for watching.
Im considering one now and the Ableton aspect is a big plus. The grid thing is a PIA. Need to be able to free flow. Stereo samples taking up 2 pads is dumb. I’ve read There are some tricks to manage that. Rewatching.
Yeah, I haven't messed with this in a while since I had it in for review, but the Live export was a big draw for me too. I'm not sure if there have been any updates since this video, I'd imagine some things have changed hopefully. That grid was a killer lol.
This is a great explanation video for this and I learned a lot.
Thanks for watching!
Can't preview samples ...? Korg lost me on that one. Great review man, thanks!
Sorry I missed this but thanks for watching!
This is the best electric sampler review so far. Thanks !
One question. How do I stop a sample from playing when triggering another pad?. I cannot find it in the manual and is driving me a bit crazy.
I no longer have this in my setup so I'm not sure, I want to say there was a choke feature?
You give it 3.5 out of 5... what are some good alternatives in your opinion?
Im looking still, it would be nice to be able to compare before purchase. Great review btw!
+Forsoicanspeak same as first I haven't really seen an alternative for something like this quite yet, I just feel like it could be improved upon for my own personal use, but as it is, still useful for many, including myself, just wish for some extra changes for how I like to work.
+SoundsAndGear.com thank you, great video not many (useful ones) out right now. good stuff.
It seems like once you chose a sample (sound / patch / preset / etc) for a pad, you can then use the other 15 (16 total) for just that one pad - meaning kind of like each pad has its own subset of 16 pads to use for sequencing - am I off here or is that basically how it works?
+Forsoicanspeak same as first you can use "keyboard" mode, which pitches the sample across the 16 pads. But you only have 16 pads (parts) in total.
+SoundsAndGear.com nice, thank you. I dont mean to be "anal", but in other words 16 parts total, with 16 pads to control (pitch) each individual part. Sort of like "layers" of sequences lying on top of each other (synonymous with a multi track recording, each track is a pad and each pad can be pitched with the all 16 pads). The volcas sort of work that way, 10 parts and all the keys control each part.
Sorry to go on, Im still wrapping my head around this thing. I might order it tomorrow as well (hopefully) if all works out.
thank you for your time and (again) excellent review
+Forsoicanspeak same as first Yeah, pretty much. 16 parts/sounds in total.
The instant chord feature is really cool.
Thanks for watching!
No, thank you for this most excellent video. I hope you will do an update if the latest firmware warrants one.
I no longer have this unit, I sent it back after review so I can't test any of the latest developments, hopefully they are doing some cool stuff though :)
This is dope! Been waiting on your review for the mpc touch for awhile bruh bruh...
+prettdboy Thanks for watching. I have plenty of stuff to get to, no timeline either...haven't even decided if I'm going to do an actual review on that yet lol.
Good review. Was looking for the part about how to integrate it with Live Lite 9 (already purchased a LaunchPad Pro). IMHO it would be good to see how the LaunchPad pads would Trigger the MIDI Notes.
Thanks for watching, no longer have it but didn't try it as a controller only used it to export projects as Live sessions.
Good review bruh... but with Push and maschine out there, I'm not really feeling this. How are you digging it? Did it meet your expectations?... Or is it... "womp-womp"kinda let you down?
+Bee Gee Well it's totally different than Push or Maschine, but as far as what I think, I covered that pretty much in this vid ;)
you make an empty pattern were you save all the global parameters you want (velocity whatever) as a template, then you dont have to do it again everytime.
Also, shortcut for trig.pad velocity ON/OFF is SHIFT + pad number 11
Yes, I showed the shortcut, I still think it's a pain and even when on the velocity isn't to my liking, I feel it's not as responsive as it could be, which is a hardware limitation. I'm sure they could tweak it via firmware though! Thanks for watching.
Ok fair enough :)
:)
I agree with some of your issues (in particular not being able to turn off Q, even keys has flux mode) though I do really want this machine, Would be nice if they could fix this in firmware.
+True Slice That would change a lot for me honestly, that and improved pad sensitivity.
Great video - Helped me out a lot!
Glad to help!
Nice review as always!
I got my esx2 since the day it has came out and i love it but i agree, the sample management and the menu structure is sucks.
But it's still a kind of cool unit i use it most for sequencing multiple external gears via midi. There isn't any other polyphonic midi sequncer for this money.
Nice man, I feel you, I know all gear has it's quirks and even with those issues it's still useful. Especially being battery powered, that's probably what I like about it most, using it as an alternative to an iPad for mobile ideas.
Yes there is, and cheaper, with a different workflow. The novation circuit. And with the new firmware it also works as a sampler.
+djoy38
with a circuit you can drive 3 external gears via midi ch1-2 and 10.
with this one you can sequence 16 external gears via16 midi channel.
I like the circuit too btw.
Nice man, haven't tried the circuit myself
Yo, GREAT REVIEW, it reminds me A LOT of the old BOSS DR-5 drum machine, think I need to get this as a "scratch pad kinda joint
+KeyGreen76 Yoooooooooo, the Dr-5 was the first piece of gear I ever bought! Loved that thing man lol. thanks for watching.
yessir!! yup, made my first beats on the DR5, that was my baby!!! LOL
+KeyGreen76 yessssssssssssss LOL
Don't have this one yet, but I'm pretty sure there are different velocity sensitivity curves to choose from. Probably deep in a menu somewhere, though. Btw, have you tried Electrons Octatrack. Doesn't export to Ableton, but otherwise a pretty capable machine...
I tried all of the velocity settings, still not as sensitive as I would like. I had an elektron a4, eventually just didn't like the OS/User Interface.
Question so there are already storage drums sounds in the unit? Thanks
There are some drum sounds in there yes
@@SoundsAndGear Thanks
Great review bro! But u didn't go into detail about the sampling aspect like can sample from old records and chop and play them into the sequence drum pattern like a mpc? To make sample based boom hiphop? I been thinking of buying this to replace my sp-404
Because it has bass sounds. So i can play baselines into the beat. Which i think is dope!
+opusunum You can sample from whatever you want, but it's not an MPC, there is a slice mode but I honestly wouldn't use it for really in-depth sample chopping, you could make it work for sure but it's just a different way of working.
Pretty cool, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Great review as always, thanks :)
How does this compare to the previous gen ESX-1? Did this one lose anything from the older one?
+1VperOctave Thanks for watching. I never used the older ones so I'm not sure.
+SoundsAndGear.com Thanks for the quick reply. I'm sure my friend Mr. Google will know the answer :)
+1VperOctave no problem
Thank you!
You're welcome
Hey St. Joe, how do you feel about those 8 inch JBL LSR308 speakers? They have overwhelming great reviews on EVERY forum I check! Even on Amazon!... And those speakers are inexpensive!!! What's your take on those speakers? And why would or wouldn't you get'em?
+Bee Gee I've heard the 5inch versions and they sound amazing, those speakers in general are really dope.
waaaaay late to the party, but have one & love/hate it lol
good review. you still use it?
Thanks for watching, nah I didn't keep it. I've considered revisiting it a few times though.
Good video but the only thing I want to know is whether this sampler can play back a sample which sounds EXACTLY the same as the original sample before it was sampled by the sampler! From this video, it sounds like the sound from the Volca when played back, it does not sound very high quality so this sampler is a piece of junk in my opinion.
It's been too long I don't remember, it may have a sound to it, it may not be identical, I really can't say. Thanks for watching though!
SJ, can you tell me if effects are cut off at the beginning of the next pattern? For instance, lets say I have a reverb assigned to a sample that extends past the 16th bar on pattern 01... does that reverb tail extend to pattern 02 or does it get cut off as soon as the pattern is switched? Thanks in advance!
Haven't really tried chaining patterns together so I'm not sure.
Great video. I also prefer to play my drums live with a real loose, dilla style feel. I'm thinking I'm just going to resample myself playing the drums live right back into the unit. Would that solve the problem for you?
That may be a way to do it, seems like extra work though lol.
When I get the unit. I want to do a video tutorial on that if I can figure it out. Btw. I just picked up that roland jd-xi. That thing is amazingly fun. It's got 4 parts and a sequencer so you can sketch out ideas fast. There is a grid but with the scale setting at 32nd notes you almost can't tell.
Nice man, looking forward to it. Yeah I messed with the JDxi a little bit at NAMM, cool stuff.
i find the groove Laidback works well for delaying the output of certain parts
with shift and roll(Knob Menu) you can move faster in files
+Tlacaelel Balmori cool
this demo has almost put me off getting one. the laborious clicking and menu stuff. the esx sd is far more intuitive nd this machine has a 'work station' vibe it and work isn't what i want but i was originally gasping at what it might be able to do. your demo is great though its just the machine
I hear ya, thanks for watching! I don't know how it compares to the ESX as I've never used that one.
I want this so bad...but, there are some basic things such as scale setting parameters, velocity, and memory (simple things that should be a must) that are not available. It's really ashame, because this thing would be fricking amazing if they would have just added BASIC STUFF. It really blows my mind. I still really want one though I must admit.
Yeah, it's one of those things, sometimes limitations cause you to work a certain way, but of course it has to fit in with what you want to do.
Awesome review. So when you export this as a wav instead of ableton. Let's say I am using logic. Will all those parts be separate wavs or one wav for the whole track? I'd like to be able to mix the tracks individually and eq and all that. If it does that then I am sold
Thanks for watching fam! I believe it will still be separate wavs, honestly I only tested it for Live because that was the feature I was most interested in lol.
SoundsAndGear.com okay so it basically is ableton live and not advertised to export to logic or protools?
I think it would work Logic with just exporting the waves. I used Live because it exports it as a project file.
Hey there! Nice video, though I kinda "fast forwarded" some of it, because I was looking for specific info about importing your own wavs. Like how easy and painfree (or painful) the process is? Can it read folders and scroll through files without hassle (a lot of samplers actually can't)? Is it streaming samples from the card or importing it to internal memory (if so, how big?). Some people said that it had lag switching from pattern to pattern, is that true!?
I am used to an Elektron Octatrack and if this is good enough and useable I would use it as a secondary sampleplayer so I have much more tracks for samplebased percussion and FXs mostly.
Thanks in advance. (I couldn't get answers to these more abstract/advanced questions from their website).
Thanks for watching, and no problem with skipping, I do the same! You can load samples from the card, it loads them into memory on the device, it's a little different in how they handle it but you can browse your folders if it's setup the way they instruct in terms of the folder structure. Which it should do automatically when you format it in the unit.

Is the sampler just a direct upgrade to the Electribe with the same functionality, or does it do completely different things than the regular electribe?
If I sound like a noob, I am.
I didn't use the previous Electribes, but I think it's similar workflow/concept with added features
Hey man thanks for the review!
I'm looking for a sampler like this where I don't need a computer when using it if I have already sampled prior or am using the sounds already built in.
The MPX8 more seems to fit the size and what I'm wanting but all I have seen are bad reviews.. do you know if there is anything more like this electribe but smaller?
I haven't used the MPX so I can't comment on it, you may want to look into older samplers like the sp404
Not quite sure what I'm looking at. But in terms of what you can do, it's really up to you and how you want to use it.
I dont think you can compare the mpx8 and electribe sampler. Totally dif beasts. The mpx8 isnt going to be able to sequence or make full songs. Its just a sample player. Also it doesnt have lfo, envelopes, eq, effects etc
Just picked mine up! Gonna use it in conjuction with my spd-30. Any more feedback since ur review?
Cool fam, let me know what you think. Nah, I still feel pretty much the same about it.
Awesome review. Is keyboard mode polyphonic ?
Thanks for watching, If I recall you can play chords, etc, in keyboard mode.
I know it's only a little over 200 seconds mono sampling time. Can I have a ton of time on the sd card samples & just choose what I load & unload to the unit without removing the card?
It's been a while since I used this, I can't remember if you can pick and choose what you load from an sd card.
how about follow up video with new software enhancements?
I don't have this device anymore I sent it back after the review.
Hey Joe!! I just looked at your review on the Presonus Sceptre monitors. And you said you wish that the sceptre monitors had knobs on the back to control the DB's and frequency instead of just the preset settings. Well, Presonus DEFINITELY listened to you because on the new Eris 66 monitors - they did it EXACTLY like you were requesting lol. You know your sh*t bro!! That's why I'm here!! lol... Btw... i still wish you can gimme your vibe on those erris 66 monitors! hint-hint? lol... one love fam!
+Bee Gee Word fam! lol, I'm currently testing those R65 joints, but def want to check those e66
Mostf Def!! Pleeeease let me knw about those E66 joints! I'm holding out from buying the jbl's till you do!!! Lol
+Bee Gee Hahahahaha
So I finally got me the Electribe sampler 2 and have to deal with one issue which gives me hard time. Well, lets say you create a beat on an empty pattern and save it/export it on the sd card as an Ableton live or wav file. Switch the Electribe sampler off then when you switching it on again and want to import what you have recorded I cannot import the whole saved track from the SD as a whole but just the kicks, snares, etc seperately and also as stereo on 2 pads each one. When I transfer from my SD card the recorded track into my DAW appears and plays as a whole but in Electribe Sampler my beat is "broken"... So please inform me about this issue cuz it makes me scratch my head everytime. Thanks in advance!
+trellastabouna You'll want to save it as a project for electribe use, export is specifically for getting it out of the electribe for use in Ableton or another daw.
Fucking nice demo video. Simple.
Thanks for watching!
hey man great review. what would you suggest as an alternative to the electribe?
Really not much out there currently, maybe older samplers?
At this price point the Electribe is a very good sampler. If you want a cheaper one you can go for the Korg Volca Sampler or the Akai MPX16 though it has no sequenser. If you can afford an Elektron Octatrack or a Pioneer Toraiz SP-16 you will never have to wish for anything more when it comes to sampling.
Hi!, one question please. I am wondering if there is a chance of routing the metronome in the headphones jack or something in order to have the sequence played on the p.a. without the click and the drummer have it own tempo (sorry for my english) i hope you had understand me
I do not know if that is possible, no longer have the unit to check it out.
Could someone help me please ?I'm torn between the sampler and electribe 2 synth. I want to jam away from my PC.. but maybe not limited to the sounds on a synth (which always sound a bit 'cheap' to me)..Can I load multisamples / wav samples to the sd card and then use them? This would make the sampler a better option for me..
Are you limited by size / length of sample? How many can you put on the machine.. and do you need to do a lengthy sample add process every time you turn the machine off and on again?
It's been a while since I had this in for review so I can't be sure on the answers, the sample loading process isn't all that bad, however you want to make sure you save every time before turning things off. As for multi samples, it's not designed so much with that in mind but you can create instruments by loading a sample and using keyboard mode. You have about 99 seconds for user samples, in 500 slots, but you can also delete the factory samples if you wish. That totals around 4 minutes or so of sample time once you do that.
Hey, can you sample the same way with korg electribe music production station? I'm an absolute beginner and I would like to know what is the main difference between the two units. Thaks in advance, great vid!
Thanks for watching! The main difference is actually one is a sampler and one isn't. Also, I believe the non sampler version has more filter types as well.
Hey brother, did you tried the novation circuit. It would be cool so you could give your comparison opinion between electribe sampler and circuit. I own one, and use it sequencing with a moog minitaur , and man, it is really a flow toy
Thankz for the videos :)
I haven't tried it but that sounds like a fun setup man!
I may have to get this bro!
+SoundOracle You know you like to have all the toys lol
+SoundsAndGear.com Yep. Especially samplers!
+SoundOracle word
St, Joe, thanks for the review. I was very excited when I first caught wind of this unit, but after watching this, I think I'll pass. Obviously this was designed with the novice EDM producer in mind. Korg really needs to up their game by start thinking out of the box more. Perhaps they need to consider other music genres and producers, such as R&B, Hip Hop, and the like. I'm desperately in search of a small portable sampler/sound module/sequencer unit like this that I can easily pull out to bang out ideas in the living room or in my office. I like to use it as a functional scratch pad and then later export the tracks into a DAW. If you know of any other comparable units that might fit my needs, please hit a brother up. Thanks!
+4iamu yeah man I hear you. So far nothing is as useful as an ios device...but that's not the same. Hopefully someone brings a decent unit to the market.
SoundsAndGear.com I'm thankful that producers and musicians have top quality channels and sites like your SoundsandGear inc, which all serve as useful portals and needed ears for manufactures. Hopefully, they are listening to your very insightful reviews and seriously taking notes. Imagine a an affordable standalone Akai MPC touch with a built in sampler or sound module that allowed the user to import and export samples, stems, and midi files. I know they could easily do it, but probably won't because they are too concerned about competing with NI Maschine, which is an effort of futility, IMO. That unit would sell like hotcakes and musicians' inspiration and creativity would once again flow like it did back in the day!!
All of this convoluted technology makes everyone sound the same these days.... it seems everyone is entirely spending too much time trying to figure out all of this electronica/computer compatibility BS, while ruing our eyes starring at a freaking LCD monitor for hours on end. Dilla did so much more with so much less. The music was his thing. Dang!! I miss that era and its mentality!!
Yeah man, never say never!
Hey!!! in 2017 AKAI is DEFINITELY coming out with an MPC that looks EXACTLY like the mpcTouch called the "MPC LIVE".... but..., it is gonna be a standalone sampler AND sequencer like the old MPC's. it is suppose to also have the 2.0 software that basically makes the new software a DAW. If that happens.... they will change the game and force native instruments to do something similar with the Maschine. that will then give Ableton some competition. Becasue Ableton Live being a DAW is what totally sets the Push apart from maschine and Akai.
Bee Gee Yeah, I saw it last month! I definitely dig the concept. Thanks!
very nice bro, if you could show that some sample style by your self that you can create and name it whatever the name you can give and save it on SD card and find it afterward, that will very beneficial for the person like me who likes to buy one, no experience of creating on Samplers, can you do it Pls thanks
Thanks for watching, I no longer have this product though.
I hate when they put record scratching in the presets. Who the hell uses that goofy crap anyway? Great demonstration of the sampler tho. Very informative and thorough. I used to like the Triton but never really thought much of anything else korg put out besides my beloved dw8000. But this little thing is pretty badass
Hahahaha I know! LOL, maybe someone finds use for them though. Thanks for watching!
so what sort of oscillators are left over from the synth version? are any of them still like the better ones or did they leave it with all the crumby wave-tables that no one likes...so you have to buy both the synth model and the sample model.... but also what filters are left over and left out in the new sample 2 model???? im curious....but if you wanted too...couldn't you just sample a synth sound into the electribes sample set...and just use that sample as an oscillator? i dunno...im still starting out at this...im guessing theres a reason that wouldn't be useful .... help me out here someone???
I'm not sure all of the differences as I've only used the sampler, but I was looking for some of the extra filters and found out they are only in the synth version. You could sample synth sounds and use them as an oscillator if you want, the main difference is that you can add your own sounds to this one and the other one can't.
oh ok so the Sampler one can add in different say synth samples? And the synth version your supposed to program your own sounds using the inbuilt oscillators and filters etc??? i guess sorry to be dumb?
Yep, the sampler lets you import sounds along with using what's there, the synth doesn't let you import your own sounds you use what is already there and create your own from their waveforms as well.
Thnaks man !! you rock
Thanks for watching.
Hi there....can i use this as my rock band?....i play guitar and sing.....can i program rock drums and the bass line and taking breaks from the guitar to change ir quickly?....thx
yess you can this is a great band to have you don´t need anything else
You probably could depending on what exactly you want to do. It's a sampler and sequencer so you could definitely program drums and bass on it.
hi, can we export the pattern from ableton to Korg?
+REV. STANLEY THOMAS not that I know of
great reviw, finally someone who knows what the hell is going on!
+mike degrazia Thanks for watching!
Muy buen DEMO !!!!
Thanks for watching.
jajajaja
Are there any ways of importing sounds into a DAW other than an SD card? Does it have a usb output?? Thanks
I'm pretty sure SD card is the only option.
Can you control a volca with this one? Not the CV but play the volca samples with the pads of this unit?
If the Volca can receive MIDI it should work, I didn't try it personally though.
Thank you.Peace.
Thanks for watching!
SoundsAndGear ))))
SoundsAndGear I do not speak English, but a little bit understand and google translator
Cool!
Thanks for the review. Too bad it does not seem to export the patterns as midi.
Not sure if it does or not as I didn't try it. But thanks for watching!
If you want standalone I'd look at the Roland SP series (404, etc) or maybe an MPC. This could work too if you like it.
So what do you recommend instead? What is the machine that this SHOULD have been?
I don't really know anything out there currently that is doing anything like this.
If I'm only going to have one piece of hardware to work away from the computer, is this good? Or should I look for an MPC 500/1000 or workstation keyboard like Korg Kross instead?
I wouldn't use this as my only piece personally, but it really depends on how you like to work.
+SoundsAndGear.com well right now I just work in Reason and Logic, so whatever I get will probably be different. I work in loop mode, so something that can overdub or add tracks during a loop, and have 2 loops to switch between song sections? I'm trying to do this live too, without stopping the sequencer to add sounds. Can I do this with an MPC or Electribe?
You could probably do what you want with either one honestly, it's all about which workflow you prefer.
