- 🔰I always wanted to make a video about Alan Watts, this speech, in particular, is one of my favorites bits from his work. The editing of this video was done during the global quarantine of the virus crisis, and it felt right to make a thought-provoking video and in my opinion an optimistic view of the human condition. This video could not be possible without the help of my friends that allowed me to film them and helped me to capture some of the shots. The video was shot during a weekend trip in February organized by / iaces.thessaloniki . Our humanity will defeat this coronavirus outbreak, as we orbit the sun, silently. Stay safe and happy

Let's suppose you were able, every night, to dream any dream you wanted to dream, and that you could, for example, have the power to dream in one night 75 years' worth of time. Or any length of time you wanted to have. And you would, naturally, as you began on this adventure of dreams, fulfill all your wishes. You would have every kind of pleasure you could conceive. And after several nights of 75 years of total pleasure each, you would say 'Well, that was pretty great. But now let's have a surprise. Let's have a dream which isn't under control, where something is going to happen to me that I don't know what it's going to be.' And you would dig that, and come out of it and say 'That was a close shave, now wasn't it?' Then you would get more and more adventurous, and you would make further and further out gambles as to what you would dream, and finally, you would dream where you are now. You would dream of the life that you are actually living in today. That would be within the infinite multiplicity of the choices you would have. Of playing that you weren't God. Because the whole nature of the godhead, according to this idea, is to play that he's not. The first thing that he says to himself is 'Man, get lost,' because he gives himself away. The nature of love is self-abandonment, not clinging to oneself. Throwing yourself out, for instance as in basketball; you're always getting rid of the ball. You say to the other fellow 'Have a ball.' See? And that keeps things moving. That's the nature of life.
So in this idea, then, everybody is fundamentally the ultimate reality. Not God in a politically kingly sense, but God in the sense of being the self, the deep-down basic whatever there is. And you're all that, only you're pretending you're not.

The perfect day is the imagined day. The perfect day is where reality matches all of one's desires. And because we don't know what we want, or know what's best for us, our limited wanting coming true, would end up being fruitless, surpriseless, wonderless.
"You don't control your thoughts. You don't control your feelings." ~ Alan Watts. The thing to realize is this: You don't choose what you think of. Except you think of yourself as 'the chooser.' It's why you try to justify all your thoughts and feelings. Even the wrong ones (and that's where humanity gets into trouble). All you have to see is that you could never 'choose' a thought, since a thought is an expression of your will in reaction to the environment. You're this will embodied, and you have all these competing desires, and a belief system, and you dance with the world in a certain way based on who you are and what you want. Except (and this is the key)... you don't choose what you want. And hence you don't choose at all. Because again - you don't choose a thought. You just think it. You don't choose to have a good or bad feeling about it in your body. That feeling just arises. That feeling is some mix of your conscience and your anxiety. And neither, ever, go away. So the thing to see is that you, and everyone else, are absolutely not in control. It's always been that way. And yet you still have a conscience. The world still matters to you, and to the rest of us. And what that means about God, I don't know. But I have an inkling. God's not choosing either, since how would God know 'what's best' apart from some feeling inside God's brain that goes "This is best." Aka, any consciousness functions mostly like ours: it watches as the world plays out all on its own. How the 'world plays out on its own'... aka, why gravity works like it does and why we have the competing desires we do and why we like to represent the world through symbol and why it feels good when we do it accurately and why electrons pull on each other (or how they act randomly, disproving determinism)... I don't know. And once you realize that even if someone 'planned' it all to be that way, that what was going through their mind while they were planning... just another set of unchosen thoughts and unchosen reactions, you see that control is the greatest illusion of all, and its the inner clenching of anxiety that we do because we think we're in control that is what we call 'the ego.' And it's not up to you if it goes away, because nothing is in control. But it can, sometimes. And you do learn. And every moment is a surprise because you literally don't know what you're going to think of next nor how you might feel about it. Your next thought could change your life. Seeing that can change your life. Oh, and the flip side of all is this... learn to feel your body. Learn to feel anxiety. It's clenched muscles in the body, in the face, around the heart. Go find it in every moment you can and feel it deeply. The person you've become when you can feel anxiety, when you've no longer 'had it up to here,' because you can feel all of that... that's the graceful version of you. It just takes doing the thing we all hate the most: feeling our fear.

I showed my dad an Alan watts video it was the one about God and that she was black he watched it then looked Alan watts up and saw that he was drunk and other things he completely thought I was an imbecile and stupid. I don’t fully understand to this day what made him think that sure Alan watts went through some shit BUT so did Robin Williams and he was an amazing person? As well as Michael Jackson all people who were amazing and thought provoking as they had their own crap to deal with in there own lives. I still love Alan watts to this day and I wished I could have been at one of his speeches in person...............
It's hard to separate a person from his work and observe without any bias. I don't know if this approach is even correct. Something Google can't answer for sure. Take care mate
