Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 After The Buzz

  • I think you can tell a lot about Samsung’s target for the Galaxy Z Flip with their marketing. Their ads are full of young people, mostly women, and it’s all about “joining the flip side” as if this was a reference to the Dark Side. Yes, that exact same demographic that is completely owned by the iPhone, was treated to a lot of K-Pop Celebrities and Sidney Sweeney at Galaxy Unpacked for a reason. The problem is that I wish I could tell you that most people in Diego’s age are buying iPhones for their looks or for some party trick. The reality is that even if Samsung products also fall within the Status Symbol category, the way you’re seen is also half the story.

      @@christopherkinslow5432 well the big thing is people complaining about form factor, not just appearances. iPhone works just fine with it's form factor, people may complain it looks the same but it doesn't take awake from usability. Majority of Fold and Flip users dislike the form factors of Samsung phones, so there needs to be a change in design not for design sake but for efficient use.

The cameras are better on the S24, but the Z Flip is equal to or better in all other ways. I use the outer display about 70% of the time, but I installed Good Lock, which greatly improves the experience. I find the display better than the S24. I was a big phone guy with the S10+ and Note 20 Ultra then the Fold 3. But after switching to the Flip 5, with the attempt to reduce screen time. I can say this is my favorite phone I’ve had and I use it closed 80% of the time. Yes, I use IG and CZcams on the tiny screen to watch videos and reels and also reply to messages and emails. As for the cameras, I always have my Leica M10P or M2 with me so I just use the phone for quick snaps and videos to share with friends. Yes, I use the camera closed for selfies haha. I want to switch to the Fold 6 purely for the squared design and narrow screen but I think I’ll stick with my Flip 5 for it’s size and usability. Maybe I’m in the minority but I love this thing!

    I recently left Apple after 10 years and picked up a z flip 5. I don't see myself going back anytime soon. I love the customization, the footprint in my pocket, how much more fun Android is as a operating system. I think for somebody who just wants a little innovation and something different the z flip is perfect. I've also been really trying to disconnect from my technology a little bit more as I get older and I find having the smaller cover screen for quick things like notifications and changing my songs makes that much easier. I also like not having an Apple watch anymore. Had one of those on my wrist since they came out originally and I'm just ready for a less connected phase of my life.

    My experience;
    The slightest bit of debris on the screen when you close it will put small indentations in it.
    The screen protector is too glossy.
    The screen is too fragile, I had the Samsung case on it and I dropped it 3 times with the phone closed ,it survived. Dropped it once with the phone open and the screen cracked.
    To protect the phone properly you need a case that covers the hinge but then it gets quite chunky when folded.
    And I started to get tired of having to unfold it.
    The finger print reader on the side button was to hit and miss .

    I appreciate you mentioning the issue with polarized sunglasses that drove me nuts when I had my Flip 5. The other issue I had was in order to use the cover screen fully you had to have good luck and even with that a lot of apps didn't work very well. I feel like Samsung still views it as a smartwatch. So a lot of the widgets just weren't that useful to me. And I ended up opening the phone a lot more than what I wanted to, which kind of goes against the reason for having it. That said, it was a fun form factor and I loved Flex mode with the mouse pad. That was kind of an interesting Feature, but not enough for me to stick with the flip form factor, unfortunately.

  • @LordWaterBottle
    @LordWaterBottle Před 19 dny +1

    I can explain the polarizer issue!
    The panels for the flip and fold have the same polarizer orientation with respect to the seam. On the flagship Fold, this aligns with normal polarized sunglasses. On the flip, you are perpendicular and get a ton of blockage and interference, causing that rainbow dark effect. When held in landscape the Flip does not have polarizer issues.

    I got this phone when it came out because it had some really good trade in for my s20. I figured I'd try it and then likely upgrade when the next pixel or Samsung regular phone came out.... but i ended up really liking the form factor. i do agree with everything in this video, and there was a time i was chasing the improvements (mostly camera because they were so bad for so long) but now i think pretty good is good enough. The few things i wish were better are the screen nits which still are barely good enough for sunny days outside, dex support, and some useful reason to actually use the cover screen beyond just the always on display.

      Agreed, I previously owned the Flip 4 when they first came out. Loved the form factor of it, but compared to my wife’s iPhone the camera’s were just mediocre. After the film screen protector cracked about 10months in, I had to send it off to get it repaired under warranty so I was without a phone for 3-4 days as Samsung didn’t have a walk-in repair centre. So for now I’ve sold it on and I’ve moved back to iPhone, but if Samsung add better camera specs and have walk in places like Apple do for replacing the film protector they apply, then I may consider going back as I did really like the innovation.

    I’d buy one as an iPhone user if I didn’t feel like it would break within 6 months. I’m the type of person to use an iPhone until it no longer gets updates… so I feel like the screen will break before Samsung stops pushing updates.

      Had mine since launch. No problems with quality.

      @@ljacobs357 nice, I do a lot of field work outside… even if it didn’t break on its own it would only be a matter of time until I got a decent size chunk of debris that would at bear minimum deform the screen :/.

    Motorola RAZR 40 is a better deal, not to mention the new RAZR 50.

    Common man, the phone was garbage and over priced, but then what do I know, keep listening to the man who pronounces the J in his name like an H.

      You do realize he's hispanic, right? The J is silent.

    I don't agree with shit you said that in YOUR opinion is bad about the phone except for the screen in daylight. The camera and video quality is more the fine for the majority Average user. This is why i'm starting to like average tech youtubers versus you nerd tech youtubers. Y'all nitpic about things that the average person. Isn't remotely ever thinking about
