- The mistress of all evil, Maleficent, was given the Wicked treatment in this Disney live-action remake. I'd argue that's better than a remake that is so close to the original, it's barely worth existing.

Why couldn't the filmmakers try to make the King a bit reasonable when he confronted Maleficent towards to the end of the film? And say to her that he couldn't bear the image of her being murdering and that's why he took her wings.
the thing is I wouldn't even be able to buy that he did it to protect her cause there's a whole scene of her effortlessly destroying an army.
@@imp360 true. But Bobsheaux did an interesting way to make the scene more reasonable

You know, in the scene where Aurora pricks on the spindle, there was so much potential for you to use a clip from Spider Man in that scene.
Why?
Willem Dafoe: Sleeeeeeeeeeep!
God, that would have been so funny.
Maleficent was a rather poor attempt to Once Upon A Timeize the character, and to be honest, taking a character like Maleficent and trying to explain away her villainy feels kinda sexist, as if a woman cannot be villainous on her own but has to be done dirty by a man.
Once Upon A Time did a better job of humanizing Maleficent, because the movie feels like a Villain Sob Story. And I expect the sequel to be even worse.
I love how fair this review is. I myself know the movie has a ton of flaws, but there's a lot of things going for it that I genuinely liked too. Interested to see what they did in the sequel...
Yes, thank you for bringing up the line of "beloved by all who meet her". No one every brings it up when they ask why would Maleficent come to care for the princess in this film and it makes sense. And your suggestion on how she could have reconnected her wings made more sense otherwise why didn't they just go back to her the moment they became unattached. A really great review, Detective.
Exactly. The Prince could have easily broken the curse with his kiss but because of plot hole inconveniences this didn't happen. Now could you imagine Aurora growing up and knowing she was cursed with everyone loving her through magical manipulation? They're just like zombies in front of her and later on she kills herself because of isolation? That would make a great movie.
I'm new to your channel by the way. You've got a new sub lol.
Good review steve
After coming off bobsheux and nostalgia critic reviews on maleficent it nice to see someone giving positive review on maleficent
Even though I don’t like the movie
I agree with the disassociation in character names. I do the same thing with the Last Airbender
Hi detective steve I like your videos!
Am I the only one who whishes they stayed true to the original mistress of evil? I mean this is fine
Wow
This movie is ok even if the fairies are annoying and useless, Maleficent didn't turned into a dragon, her romance was rushed. Her relation with Aurora was cute and it was nice to see that saving her. The rest was boring or stupid :S The sequel is worst though. Maleficent isn't unique, she turned into a phoenix which makes no sense, the villain was predictable, the fairies are still annoying, there was a weird '' adorable '' hedgehog who was only there for comedy. Aurora is braver and Philipp is proactive at least, the music is pretty too :) Thoses things are the only ones i enjoyed about the movie, the rest was so boring!
In Sleeping Beauty (1959), Maleficent turned into a dragon form.
In Kingdom Hearts video game series, she also turned into a dragon (which was used for boss fights).
This 2014 Disney live-action movie is weird, annoying, and super worse. Audiences may get angry at this film because some scenes like Diaval, who was a raven becames a dragon, Maleficent kisses Aurora to break the spell, King Stefan had died which result to defamation to the original film.
In Conclusion, I only like the 1959 original Disney animated movie which this story was better than the live-action one.
Another problem with this movie was that it shows feminism too much. Regardless, I found Maleficent alright.
I didn't even think of "feminism" when I was watching the movie.
@@gamestation2690 neither did I until years a few years later.
@@lizafootfor5471 I think people dig too deep into things looking for some kind of subtext that isn't there.
@@gamestation2690 you're probably right. I guesd I've been seeing some stinkers recently.
