  • This movie has rotted in the back of my mind long enough. It is time for the audience to share my terror.

PSA TO ARACHNAPHOBES: Footage from the game "Farpoint" is used from 18:17 - 18:22. The enemies of that game are large, alien spiders.

I actually hated this movie so much that I contacted it's screenwriter to complain. He told me that he actually hates his own film as much as we do, and he was forced by the studio to make it like this because they insisted that the point of Scooby-Doo was to teach kids that monsters weren't real and there was nothing to be afraid of. He also told me he would pass on my complaints to the studio executive that said that.

Maybe the "making a movie" plot could have worked if they had the director be a perfectionist who wants everything to be exactly as it was. He has a scene where some sort of ritual is performed and, because they used an actual spell, it ends up bringing back the real monsters.

I think Scooby doo movies are trying to become more meta to appeal to older fans. I actually enjoyed the most recent one (Trick or Treat Scooby Doo) because of how it tried to develop the characters a bit more, like Daphne realizing she’s the true “leader” of mystery inc. without deviating too far from the established characters.

This actually made me think this was going to delve deep into something about the cat god or something. Silly me.

Excited to hear your take on this so I never have to watch it myself! The original Zombie Island is among my favorite Scooby movies from that era.

My favorite part of Return to Zombie Island was Fred's obsession with the Mystery Machine. The daydreaming sequence and the driving of the stunt vehicle. But yeah, the rest of the movie was pretty weak.
