Well this was a brain blast from the past, especially since last year NitroRad covered every videogame adaptation of the boy genius, and a complete series set of the show is available on DVD thanks to Shout Factory

Police corruption was a known problem in the 90s and 2000s, too. Of course recently there's been a huge, huge, widespread movement of anti-police propaganda and crime waves with a pro-police backlash refusing to look critically at the real problems.
Steve, do yourself a favor; don't play the Last of Us Part 2. If you're looking for an emotional zombie game, play Days Gone. In my opinion, it's better than the Last of Us 1 (Which I did also play.)
