Children with autism can be violent at times and special measures may need to be done...not all educators are equipped to handle these types of children
You are correct, that’s why the school administration should have verified that there was not a child w/special needs in that classroom and if so, taken him/her out of that classroom and placed in another teachers room who has that experience in handling.
Then they need to be placed in arenas that are equipped for them. Violence in dangerous. If you can teach a dog to do tricks and can't teach an autistic person to behave, what place have they in public schools?
As a former educator, I would advise any parent that has a child with special needs or a disability to research accomodations and other resources offered in your state before placing them in a public school, it is daunting but worth the hassle versus putting your child where they are at the mercy of unprofessional ignorant individuals.
As a teacher I have had several colleagues get hit by students over the years. Last week was our first week of school and a Kindergarten teacher was hit a couple of times on the first day by a girl with autism. Not once did my colleague hit the child back. She called the mother and told our principal and counselor we need a meeting to develop a plan. This teacher’s aide should have had been told she was going to work with a child with a disability who is used to a routine and the new environment may cause stress. She needed de-escalation techniques to work with the student. Unfortunately, with the teacher shortage nationwide we are just hiring warm bodies to be teachers, para-professionals, and aides. Many of the newly hired staff have little to no training. 😔
Apparently the child remembered what had happened the previous day and didn't want to go to school. Same way he could have learned scratching someone without justified cause can get you slapped. One lesson thought there..... unwanted behavior unlearned!!
paddled is not an open face slap. I'm 47 and yes corporal punishment was still a thing. But if a teacher slapped me across the face my parents would have a problem with it.
I have a son with Autism who’s in first grade and I’m always afraid something like this may happen. Tho… my son tends to make up crazy stories so to get to the bottom of it, I ordered a small black voice recorder, it works great, very discreet, it works as a flash drive so you can plug it into a computer/laptop using a USB cord, it records for 12 plus hours, so just make sure you upload everything every day you use it. I bought it from Amazon for no more than $15 with prime shipping. It’s definitely a must have if you have children with special needs or if you think your child may be bullied at school. You can hang it like a keychain on their backpack or just put it inside. No one will know, plus if it gets found by a teacher, you can just say it’s a fancy keychain your kid wanted or it’s your flash drive you been looking for lol 😆 you can totally play it off as something like that and no one would know the difference.
To slap a child in the face is definitely degrading and unnecessary. I suspect she was forcibly grabbing him to get him to do whatever and he scratched her to get her to stop. That’s the only she supposedly got scratched is if she was in his personal space at his level. She is an aggressive vile person.
Keep the kid at home if a little for at home treatment if possible if aggression is very often. he can’t be attacking teachers . I’m not saying what the teacher did was right but what if the kid attacked another kid. Sounds like he needs home treatment for his behaviors first then go back to school. If the aggression is rare then he can keep going to school. The school also needs to provide more trainings to Teacher aids when dealing with aggression. Why would someone want their skin scratched off? If anything, it seems like trying to calm the kid was not working. The teacher should not hit the kid but instead have the parents pay for injuries if the scratches were deep enough. Also, some kids with autism will need their nails cut often due to scratching as an aggression. Some might even bite when very escalated.
When I was in school in the 60's, I watched the School Superintendent use his closed fist to punch an unruly study hall student in the face and that sort of thing was considered completely acceptable.
Sometimes this kids know right from wrong but they still behave badly cause they know they can get away with it, you too have to discipline your child.
The kid is a first grader on the spectrum and you expect him to be fully in control of his actions? As a society we don’t even hold 16-17 year olds or their parents fully accountable for their actions yet a child with a severe developmental delay is expected to do so?
It’s amazing and disturbing how many people disregard children, even worse mentally disabled children. You people are disgusting. Just like the Catholic priests and rabbis.
This is awful for this teacher aide slapping a special need child I don't know what lead to the altercation, but this is uncalled for y'all have a blessed Memorial Day!
We gotta deal wit it every day. So, they want the school to deal with it? No! Home school your kid until he learns to behave. He is NOT the schools problem. He is YOURS.
The parents are morons and he’s an exceptional moron for saying that. That said, during the school day he is the responsibility of the school whether you like it or not. If kids with autism are excluded from “free and proper” education I think we should start excluding others.
Na it's really the disgruntled psteby who can't teach their kids. Then they go commit mass shootings. How about you stop these shootings. Instead of complaining about a teacher shortage. You need to be locked up. You think it’s OK for adults to hit mentally disabled children. Go to the Harris county jail.

Seems like you agree with the government’s decision not to charge the teachersaid. The child is mentally disabled. Don’t be ignorant.
When I was in school in the 60's, I watched the School Superintendent use his closed fist to punch an unruly study hall student in the face and that sort of thing was considered completely acceptable.
@C. Haze So according to you, the teacher should’ve punched the disabled child. Is that correct?
@C. Haze I wish someone like you would do that to a child, you’d get stomped out rightfully so
@C. Haze Wow. Thank God I homeschool my child. It’s not safe with people like you running around.
Bet you that kid wasn't unruly anymore either. 🤣
In a bizarre twist the child was cured after the slap!
So hitting kids you can’t deal with is ok? What happened to using your words? Teachers are supposed to protect children, not put them in danger.

Your son was attacked after refusing to actually do something he was asked & literally scratching the teacher. Get why there's a teacher shortage?
Keep him home. Home school him. You know how your child behaves. He may need a parent around to help facilitate his learning.
Teachers & aids are taught how to handle the students, with special needs.. why should they be kept from being around others
At this point, even healthy children are not safe in these public schools.
THAT IS NOT ENOUGH. That is not nearly enough.
