- We're coming to the end of a big refit we've been doing, transforming an Open 60 2nd generation IMOCA race boat, into a fast family cruiser!
She was originally designed built and raced in the Vendée Globe, a single handed non stop around the world race known as "the Everest of the Seas".
In this video we give you a tour around the deck to show you all the modifications we've been making to turn this vessel from a race boat to a cruising home.

Caio! We are Timo and Jo, an Italian and English couple with countless ocean miles under our belts, including sailing half way around the world from Europe to Fiji!
Last year we bought an Open 66 ft race sailing boat originally designed and built by the famous Hungarian sailor Nándor Fa, which he raced in the 1990 Around Alone & 1992 Vendée Globe (round the world single handed race known as “the Everest of the seas”), becoming the first non-frenchman to finish the race.
We are currently in Fiji giving this old gladiator a new lease on life, transforming her from an ex race boat to a performance family cruiser, which we'll need to make both dog and baby proof! We’re planning to set sail again in Oct 2022, so with limited time&money we have plenty of challenges ahead to turn our dreams into reality&get back on the water!
Subscribe to our channel&track our progress as we release videos about our journey as well as "how to" videos about anything boat related.
Never stop to dream, never stop to sail!

Liking this channel! Loving the lines of NV - she is a filly supreme. Great family, great adventures to be had and love the Italian English. Why speak English when you can sIng English? Hypnotic.
Haha cheers Damian, thanks for watching and for the nice comment 🍻
Damn Italian men and their obsession with 'form'. I do however concer, she's beautiful but I also expect a handful at times. Great work guys👍
Hahahaha well said ;) definitely a handful, but worth it :)

Grazie 🙏
Charming!!
Cheers Hugo
I was expecting to see you guys on the water!
Yeah I didn’t explain that v well lol, we are floating but have so much material from the last few months to share
@@SailingNV that's what I figured as they were weeks that went by with no posts
Wow, boat is looking great after doing a TON of work! Can't wait to see you guys on the water. Blessings
Cheers Holger 🍻😊
However this was quite interesting I believe you have the most unique vessel of any of the sailing channels that I watch
Cheer Paul! Yeah she’s pretty special 🤩 we reckon ;)
@@SailingNV for sure the most unique one of a kind cruiser that I've seen on all these channels
What a great Dad such lucky kids some great deck improvement’s love seeing how and why it’s all done, thanks.
Thanks Hedley, such a nice thing to say 😊 timo sure is a great dad 👍🏻 thanks for watching
Great re cap, congratulations on such an achievement.
Thanks Ian, always nice to hear from you :)
No vabbè…non ho parole!
Spero tu intenda in senso positivo… comunque grazie per il tuo commento
Assolutamente…e ci aggiungo che provo un senso di sana invidia per quello che avete fatto e per quello che farete!!! Way to go!!
Well done guys it starting to take Shap
Cheers Craig, always great to hear from you 🍻👍🏻
Making deck fittings super strong !! I like the way you think !!
Cheers Joe we’re trying to do the best we can now to avoid as many issues later as possible 💪🏻
Must get one of those supa dupa fiji shirts....(In Red)............Congratulations once more for a great insight into the preparation for your next adventure.....
Hahaha thanks trev - prouds for the shirt ;)
This is quite incredible; I love the idea. It does seem a bit like converting a F1 car into a family camper. I'm assuming you have quite a lot of experience in yacht racing. An IMOCA boat can't possibly be very forgiving.
Hey thanks 🙏 and yes what you say is very true! Not something to take lightly…
Well worth the wait. I was wondering about the total renovation cost and whether you are staying on the initial budget forecasts. Maybe a future video. Congrats to both of you. Great work
Hey Sandy thanks yep we will def make a video about costs when we’ve finished with all the renovations 👍🏻
Lot of great work done!!! 🎉
Thanks And 🙏
I'm guessing we still have mast and splash videos coming b4 we get to sailing videos and new destinations. Much love n happiness. God Bless.
Hey Steve haha yes you guessed right, we’ve unfortunately still got a lot to finish in the water before we can think about hoisting any sails, but we’re getting there 💪🏻
Loving the content - especially on all the carbon fabrication. Did you cover the fabrication of the carbon bowsprit in another vid that I can't find? Hoping to attempt something similar soon - female mold or male mold like the boom example you showed in a later vid? Thanks!
Hey Cian thanks for writing, we didn’t make the bowsprit, it was made in high pressure in an oven by a professional company in Italy a long time ago. We only reinforced and laminated the vacuum to adapt for our boat. If you wanted to join our Patreon community we’d be happy to help you through the process :)
@@SailingNV Awesome, thanks for the reply, and the offer! You've already been far more helpful than a random Joe Public deserves, if I go further down this path I might take you up on that!
The steps to the roof are great, how about adding some grips to make it safer to ascend or descend.
I hope you are rebedding all the deck fittings in Butyl tape, keep out the leaks!
Thanks for the tip! Interesting idea!
Nice new Channel photo
Thanks yeah thought it was time for a change ;)
Pls carbon maniya video
Haha yes definitely it’s on my list! 👍🏻
w8 whaat didnt u already go to water? We need some intro booyz! nV looks so nice, good job!
Opse sorry yeah we should have explained better 🤪 we have a lot of videos coming up now about the work we did before launching… will do better intro next time ;)
@@SailingNV ;)
Those welds on the railing are probably going to rust, the welder did not have enough shielding gas flowing and was using too much heat which cooks the chromium and nickel in the parent and fuller metals.
Sure you are right, but it’s the best we could manage. We’ve polished and sanded them and they look better than they do in the video
