You Brits are always WELCOME in Germany! Good to have you here! Rgds
Yes, we should never have pulled out. Recently announced that regiments are being sent back to garrison in Germany. I was based in Germany in the 80s and 90s. Wonderful postings!
Or, when we did Lionheart
290 flights from the UK transported 32,000 personnel. This initial air movement was followed with 150 sailings across the North Sea and English Channel using civilian ferries. The sea routes carried 23,600 personnel with 14,000 vehicles and trailers.
the above is hardly the same scale!
I was on Lionheart and Crusader 80. Massive exercises.
@@stephenobrien5909 me too, it was HUGE.
I'm another Crusader and Lionheart veteran! Very impressive.
I was a civil on a ferry and got p1$$Ed with the army. Does that count?
@@biddyboy1570, as long as you bought a round, yes. 😉
Amusingly enough before the LtCol Richmond said about the NLAW bracket I was thinking it'd be a good idea to give them an easily accesible ATGM for tricky situations or shots of opportunity
The Panavia Tornado might be old, but it sure as hell makes a good figure still
It can also be said for older planes like the F16s. All it requires is some upgrades to still be competent for service.
What the British public don't know is that when the armour goes traipsing through the,( in my opinion great countryside), any and all damage commited during said exercise is handsomely compensated for and that's the main reason German landowners granting open permission to use the land
Good to see you back in Germany and at the Sennelager!
Better for permanent presence!i miss the british people in Paderborn.
It’s great to see them making full use of those lovely new Ajax platforms.
dude , SICK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So cool
For me as a German, Britain, France and the Netherlands are our closest Allies. We were not always friends in the past, but today British and German Engineers work together, French and German soldiers serve alongside within the French-German Brigade, Dutch and German tankers, and Dutch and German Paras and Marines practice and operate alongside.
They are an example for all Europeans, for that we are one big family!
I don't think that is the right sentiment. Europe can't defend itself because its forces are so tiny it relies on the Americans and won't defend itself because the Americans would go if it could.
I’ll preface this by saying I love European brethren. But they have for generations become used to having the US provide a lion’s share of the defense against Eastern European aggression. In many ways it’s much the same as what on US Army 1Lt asked a group of Afghan tribesmen about them protecting their own homes. This was back in ‘05 time frame and the villagers all responded that they had the US and coalition forces to protect them, why should they? It took time away from them managing their crops and herds.
For a very long time many in Europe held that same view. I lived in Germany as a kid when there was still a divided nation. Even then as a youngster I rarely saw German troops out conducting drills. Their equipment sat still in fenced yards like an antique sports car that gets polished often and driven little. The German Air Force was better, that was for sure. Many European countries to this day treat their military as if it’s taboo, or like just a group of people kept in a neat little box like a fire extinguisher and a sign that says “Break In Case Of Emergency.” A nations self defense is one of the very very few things that a nation *MUST* do for their citizens. Everything else is just niceties. No other social program matters, it’s simply not the government’s job or business to do those things. It is their job to provide protection.
I’m sorry for ranting.
@@jwadaow Europe can quite easily defend its self
@@jwadaow You cant defend on the cheap you must havec1st class armour 24 7 spend the money or go home .
@@jwadaow It’s certainly true that modern day Europe would struggle against any military attacks. However that does not have relevance to the brotherhood we share. It only provides reason for us to work together. And our dependency on America is better than a dependency on Russia, or China, no?
Masterpiece.
Love the CVRTs! Still going strong after 60 years.
True although that's mainly because their replacements the Ajax family have been having so many issues. Hopefully be ready to finally start phasing Scimitars out for them soon though
@@1IbramGaunt yes, but hard to beat the cvrts combo of lightweight and speed. Just not so clever if it takes an rpg strike of course! Ajax (ares) is a different beast and different way to operate.
I know that the US Army acquired a small handful of them and the German Weasel tankettes. I personally love the concept and wish that we would switch to something similar as a true scout vehicle. As is the American way, we tend to try to make a vehicle system do too many things to suit too many roles and they end up doing none of them very well at all.
Maybe a slightly larger tankette with an extensible periscope/ATGM launcher to be able to peer over hill tops without exposing the crew as much. But I fear that if we tried to do something like that it would end up just like the Bradley did.
@@soonerfrac4611 oh I agree, as I've said elsewhere what would be best instead of trying to use the Ajax platform for everything is just to make that a bit bigger as a replacement for Warrior and have something completely different be the replacement for the Scimitar that just basically IS the Scimitar again but modern, something optionally-manned perhaps like the Russian robot-tanks. Don't think it's happening though sadly so think the Army's gotta just take whatever they can get and make the best they can out of it
@@1IbramGaunt Or cv 90 if it cant be fixed serve along with boxer would make a good team.
The RAF should never got rid of the Tornado when it did.
Getting rid of it was the right decision. They should've replaced it though
Good thing Eurofighter isn't being lost in the ocean.
@@spamuraigranatabru1149 - it isn't.
That was a F35B.
@@latch9781 with what? In theory the F35's the replacement but we have like 24 of them and getting more at a tree-sap level of speed, most of which are immediately to go on the QE-class carriers
And we bought the least capable version, the B, just so the RN didn't need a catapult capable Carrier.
Madness.
Bloody hell Simitar was old when I crewed on back in the early 1980s can't imagine just how knackered those vehicles must be now...
And underarmed for the modern battlefield.
They work, they've been proven TO work in combat conditions and we have them in reasonably large numbers, and their replacements the Ajax family of AFV's just are having too many issues to be ready to take over from them yet, that'll be why they're still in service, same goes for the Warrior and Challenger 2 as their replacements aren't ready yet either
@@createdeccentricities6620 wouldn't be if that new 40mm belt-fed gun and new turret that's going in the new Ajax and was supposed to go in the upgraded Warrior could be fitted to these instead, which it probably could be, and if you upgraded the armour too with ERA or APS or something, and boosted the engine to match the new weight, basically everything the Warrior was supposed to be getting but on a vehicle we're actually keeping on in service instead, then the Scimitar could actually be quite the little force to be reckoned with once more; good luck getting the MOD to spend money on doing that though, rather than just telling the Army to carry on as best they can with what they've got while trying to fix the Ajax, along with starting all these other new projects of course
Sennelager.... Possibly the worst lager in the world.
I hope I get sent to Germany when I pass training. I start Basic training in 3 months. I miss living Germany from when my family were posted there because of my dad and uncle.
Where in Germany? I lived in Munster and Bad Fallingbostel with the royal dragoon gaurds:)
@@Mr.Plankton. Gütersloh, Senelager, Bielefeld. My dad was doing RMP duties (I know... Monkeys) 😂 and Uncle was logistics.
Barely any regiments are based in Germany, if you wanted to go there you'd need to try get posted there for a couple of years, you probably won't be able to get there as soon as you pass training.
@@aidanedwardsmith8033 Yeah. I'm going REME so I reckon I'll end up doing Germany as they'll need mechanics over there 😅
@@markcooke5270 Yep definitely. I'm ready to go.
Dear oh dear ! I was serving with BAOR in the RE's in the 1970's when we had a mighty Army, and that was just in the British Army of the Rhine. My late brother (ex-2RRF) was called up for Ex Lionheart, when we could still raise an effective Army. We could put out way way more than the above video, just from Hohne garrison in my time. I loved Germany and spent 3 years there.
I was part of Crusader ‘80, when we had loads of troops. Now, not so much. ☹️
Nice looking good
what an embarrassment... CVR/T was a load of old tat back in the 1980's. Shocking that units are still equipped with it...
Well the Ajax IS nearly ready to replace it apparently (although judge for yourself if you'd rather be riding in something completely obsolete or riding something new but being sick in it all the time)
I was just thinking that myself, 50 year old armour which can't fire on the go and the troops have to get out and unclip a ATGM to use...
its an embarrasment to the army, they should be in 20 century armour with decent amounts of fire power as in 30mm cannons that can be used on the go, ATGM's and 120mm motors that can be used from the vehicle plus other lethality as we seem extremely under gunned!
I think they should have got CV90. IMHO.
@@drunkendrew217 well hopefully, again that's where the new Ajax will come in, being modern vehicles with a better gun at least
@@Surv1ve_Thrive I agree but the Ajax is what it is, that's the design that was chosen right or wrong, and it's already had too much money and time sunk into it to just start over again with something else
Are the Lancers equipped with MBTs? I didn’t notice any Challenger 2s.
How old are them CVRT recce vehicles now, they've seen more action than a Portsmouth brothel.
I have respect for British Army ❤
Well, bit of a home coming for the CVT(T) even if it was a first to Sennelarger for the troops.
70's vehicle quite familiar with Germany.
Absolutely TOP ♥️ my dear British Army 💎 diamond 🇬🇧♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
my father A Parsley used to be one of the range controllers there.
Wow armour and sennelager how novel
Thoughts..... If Ajax had no issues, what would be your thoughts on the vehicle. Or would you choose something else i.e. small, faster, off the shelf???
It's too big and heavy for light recce, but in theory should be a good vehicle, just an absolute shambles of a design.
Name me a new piece of military hardware that didn't have teething troubles of some kind when first introduced. Ajax isn't perfect no but it works, it's here and it's made in Britain so that means jobs; it's also a worthy replacement for both the Scimitar and Warrior in my opinion or certainly will be once they DO iron out the worst of it's issues
@@1IbramGauntyes a lot of it will be manufactured here, that's in a big way, enforced by the MoD. Its got more than teething problems!! It's making blokes vomit from the vibration levels. It was pushed through early verification and issues ignored or covered over, now its with the user community for validation and acceptance, the issues can't be hidden. Pretty poor governance and engineering integrity from GD. I hope it does get fixed, CVRT won't last forever, many parts will be obsolete soon and heavier armour, C4i and lethality is required as well as commonality between non mbt tracked armour.
Yeah I must say I thought I read that quite a few blokes had been medically discharged as a result. If true, that's way more than just teething issues!
Personally, I really feel that we should have gone back to a wheeled vehicle. A boxer variant, or a custom vehicle like the French's new Jaguar
I want to join as a tank crewman but im worried i wont be put in a challenger 2/3 any advice?
Harry. You can join the army in any role you want to. Ask your recruiter what your local armoured regiment is. Obviously you need to do the army aptitude test which denotes if you have the relevant skills to do that trade. Good luck
Its like a ww2 reenactment group with all the old vehicles
A bit harsh, these are still a bit newer than that, but not as far off the mark as I'd like lol. However hopefully the Ajax family will replace these with all-modern hardware soon if they can fix the Ajax's vibration issues
My fav army is now small with vehicles from 1980 wow
Your favourite army has been small all along and the Scimatars you're seeing will be replaced by Ajax soon, so yeah, "wow"
Would CV90 have been the better replacement option?
yes
Probably but we have what we have
Lol well if it doesn't make the crew car sick, then yes! CV90 is a good vehicle
If this was filmed in the 1980's the only difference would be the uniforms :)
Hey if it works it works haha
and way more troops back then
Song?
By rain, hail, or shine, the mail must get through, be it by horse, camel or train
Don't think they'll be coming home any time soon.
Yo what it do good morning
I can't believe that they are still using cvrts when it's almost 2022!
Well actually it's still a viable piece of kit.
@@gunner678 I drove one almost twenty two years ago and I would not want to be on a modern battlefield in one.
@@alien4422 something with thin armour, tracks and a 30mm cannon is still always better than something with no armour, wheels and only machine-guns. The new Ajax family of vehicles should be along to replace it soon enough anyway
See they're STILL using the bloody Scimitar....... when are these new Ajax vehicles coming into service in any sort of effective numbers????🇬🇧🇬🇧✌✌
Presumably when the Ajax's sickness-causing vibration issues are ironed out
No sign once again of the Chefs…
You guys have some strange looking vehicles
Wait i thought we were no longer deploying soldiers off to Germany. Due to that pact/deal which expired in 2019
There are no longer soldiers permanently based there; this was a one-off exercise. Although the Tories, having thrown away the German estate in the name of austerity, are now talking about moving some forces back again 🤦
@@linmanfu913 not talking about moving troops back in, just putting in a permament forward equipment storage facility.
Pity we are no longer stationed in Germany. I went to Sennelager many times when stationed in Germany.
Lived over there as a dependent of an American Air Force officer, pre-unification. The only thing I believe that will stop a current push by the Sovie….err..Russians are the plethora of buffer states that would allow Germany to mobilize quickly enough. @1:04 CAMCREAM???????????
30mm will cut through those vehicles like knife through butter.
Well yeah but the same's true of far bigger stuff like Bradley or Warrior AFV's that've been nothing but completely successful so what's your point, it's a fast maneuverable light recon vehicle not a Main Battle Tank
The job of vehicles like this is not to engage with the enemy, certainly not to engage with any form of armored vehicle. If they are having to fire they have not done their job. Their smoke grenades are probably one of their most important systems. I do wish the cannon was not fed via manual clips/magazines though.
tell the soldiers that in Russia 50% of the country's population lives at -40 degrees Celsius. The British Ministry of Defense acknowledged responsibility for the hypothermia of the military, but did not agree that it was the influence of low temperature that led to the appearance of serious speech defects in him. At the same time, the publication indicates that Mvamba suffered from a slight stutter as a child, however, according to the soldier's lawyers, it was hypothermia in Estonia that aggravated his condition. According to archived weather reports, the temperature in Estonia during Mvamba's stay there did not fall below minus four degrees Celsius.

Ah yes finally they(british) are crossing the Rhine
CVR(T)s older than anyone crewing? Huge number of CVR(T)s needing recovery on road moves. "Innovations" there is a reason the field Army laughs at your ideas, out of necessity to compensate. F' being British recce, even if the lads are great, poorly lead just as Napoleon said and; more poorly equipped than for years.
Yep. Extremely old and out of date for their newer stratergies and technologies.
Well there is the new Ajax family coming soon that should start phasing these out before too much longer, but when it does you might be missing the Scimitars frankly (would you rather be riding around in something ancient but reasonably dependable and familiar, or something new and better that deafens you and makes you throw up all the time)
Napoleon claimed we had poor leaders sure, but Nelson and Wellington seemed to disprove that notion lol
You’re concerned that the generation operating the vehicle is yeas or even a decade younger than the last production vehicle. I’m literally laughing out loud as I know that we have B-52 bombers that have had 3 generations of men fly not just the same system but the exact same PLANE! With some families having had a 4 member flying a different plane. By the time we finally retire her there’s the chance she will see 6 generations of family on the same system or even plane.
@@soonerfrac4611 B-52 is an extremely unique case.
However when I think of decades old, horribly obsolite equipment I don't think western militaries I think middle eastern rebals.
Just needs modernising
And it is gonna be, that's where the Ajax family come in, they might not be perfect (I.e. potentially deafening the crews and making them sick with constant vibration) but every new vehicle has teething troubles, and they're new and modern and a worthy replacement for the CVR-T family
Yea yea thats nice and all, now how about you start paying your soldiers a respectable wage and stop downsizing the army, especially armored units
Nado v Nato!!
I love the British Army the soldiers are top class , but Russia is amassing 175000 modernised troops on Ukrainian boarder , we have 60 year old vehicles , it’s the equivalent of a cavalry charge in WW1,suicide , out dated ,under armoured no imagination, should have reactive armour anti drone capability high calibre protection , bigger stronger more lethal the British soldiers deserve better , what is it future soldier , 60 year old vehicle sad
Russia is just doing the yearly training exercise the problem is people like you can't remember what happened 2 weeks ago let alone a year.
Well hopefully that's where Ajax, the modern replacement for these will come in soon, if it's many problems can be fixed
@ V4 Skunk
Yet when American and NATO forces do something similar in buffer states the Soviets cry and complain that we are preparing for war. Never mind that we told them long before that we would be operating over there for a few weeks, which they didn’t. Never mind that we didn’t bring bridging equipment required to invade, which they have done. Never mind that we never had senior staff make remarks about potential for invasions, which they have. The reality is they probably won’t invade, but they absolutely want us to a: think they will, & b: be capable of doing so if something changes. Something like, say, Poland enacting Article 5 because the Belarusians and Soviets are pushing migrants down their throats and cutting off their energy supplies at the same time? I’m pretty sure if one of those NATO countries does invoke Article 5 that Kiev had better be looking East.

Really. (A) how many small countries Britain's size have THAT many troops in their armies never mind more, (B) since we ARE a small island, I.e. naval and air power is the priority, and since without the Empire we mostly only have ourselves to defend now, we don't actually NEED very many troops and historically-speaking rarely have had in our peacetime standing army, and (C) if for some reason more ARE suddenly needed we have plenty of reserves we can call up
@@1IbramGaunt You clearly do not have a clue about what you say, and clearly have never served in the military. Having served my whole career in the Army and fought in all major conflicts since 1984, i think i have a small amount of subject matter expertise. Taking the navy as your point we now have only one third combat naval ships in comparison to the time of the Falklands war and none in strategic reserve. We have less than half the strength of the Army in said time. The other point for you to note is that our military has never been designed as a home defence force but has allways been and operated on an Expeditionary Force. BTW as all recent conflicts have shown the Reserves are a paper tiger and failed to materialize in the Middle East apart from the Medical Branch. Overall your points are puerile and not based in any fact.

The British Army is the British Army mate, it's only been called an "expeditionary force" when it's been deployed in large numbers as such and that's actually pretty rarely if you look at it's over 400-year history. Britain's primary focus militarily has been the sea for at least the last three centuries right up until the end of WW2. As for the modern navy yeah it's still small and weak now, certainly indeed more so than in 1982 (in quantity at least if not quality), but that's not a permanent state of affairs as that's where most of the money's going, two new aircraft carriers and six new attack submarines along with three new whole classes of frigates, and eventually new classes of destroyer and ballistic-missile submarine planned too along with new support ships, assault ships, patrol ships, new aircraft and even drones and robot-boats, new missile launch systems and anti-missile laser guns, and bloody jetpacks for the Royal Marines lol, you name it sooner or later the Royal Navy appears to be gonna get it, just Google this stuff if you don't believe me. If we want to be a "Global Britain" as BoJo calls it we need that modern stronger navy yesterday, and that at least is one message that seems to have actually gotten through.
