    Or, when we did Lionheart
    290 flights from the UK transported 32,000 personnel. This initial air movement was followed with 150 sailings across the North Sea and English Channel using civilian ferries. The sea routes carried 23,600 personnel with 14,000 vehicles and trailers.

    For me as a German, Britain, France and the Netherlands are our closest Allies. We were not always friends in the past, but today British and German Engineers work together, French and German soldiers serve alongside within the French-German Brigade, Dutch and German tankers, and Dutch and German Paras and Marines practice and operate alongside.
    They are an example for all Europeans, for that we are one big family!

    • @jwadaow
      @jwadaow Před 2 lety +2

      I don't think that is the right sentiment. Europe can't defend itself because its forces are so tiny it relies on the Americans and won't defend itself because the Americans would go if it could.

    • @soonerfrac4611
      @soonerfrac4611 Před 2 lety +4

      I’ll preface this by saying I love European brethren. But they have for generations become used to having the US provide a lion’s share of the defense against Eastern European aggression. In many ways it’s much the same as what on US Army 1Lt asked a group of Afghan tribesmen about them protecting their own homes. This was back in ‘05 time frame and the villagers all responded that they had the US and coalition forces to protect them, why should they? It took time away from them managing their crops and herds.
      For a very long time many in Europe held that same view. I lived in Germany as a kid when there was still a divided nation. Even then as a youngster I rarely saw German troops out conducting drills. Their equipment sat still in fenced yards like an antique sports car that gets polished often and driven little. The German Air Force was better, that was for sure. Many European countries to this day treat their military as if it’s taboo, or like just a group of people kept in a neat little box like a fire extinguisher and a sign that says “Break In Case Of Emergency.” A nations self defense is one of the very very few things that a nation *MUST* do for their citizens. Everything else is just niceties. No other social program matters, it’s simply not the government’s job or business to do those things. It is their job to provide protection.
      I’m sorry for ranting.

      I know that the US Army acquired a small handful of them and the German Weasel tankettes. I personally love the concept and wish that we would switch to something similar as a true scout vehicle. As is the American way, we tend to try to make a vehicle system do too many things to suit too many roles and they end up doing none of them very well at all.
      Maybe a slightly larger tankette with an extensible periscope/ATGM launcher to be able to peer over hill tops without exposing the crew as much. But I fear that if we tried to do something like that it would end up just like the Bradley did.

      The job of vehicles like this is not to engage with the enemy, certainly not to engage with any form of armored vehicle. If they are having to fire they have not done their job. Their smoke grenades are probably one of their most important systems. I do wish the cannon was not fed via manual clips/magazines though.

At the same time, the publication indicates that Mvamba suffered from a slight stutter as a child, however, according to the soldier's lawyers, it was hypothermia in Estonia that aggravated his condition. According to archived weather reports, the temperature in Estonia during Mvamba's stay there did not fall below minus four degrees Celsius.

      Yet when American and NATO forces do something similar in buffer states the Soviets cry and complain that we are preparing for war. Never mind that we told them long before that we would be operating over there for a few weeks, which they didn’t. Never mind that we didn’t bring bridging equipment required to invade, which they have done. Never mind that we never had senior staff make remarks about potential for invasions, which they have. The reality is they probably won’t invade, but they absolutely want us to a: think they will, & b: be capable of doing so if something changes. Something like, say, Poland enacting Article 5 because the Belarusians and Soviets are pushing migrants down their throats and cutting off their energy supplies at the same time? I’m pretty sure if one of those NATO countries does invoke Article 5 that Kiev had better be looking East.

Taking the navy as your point we now have only one third combat naval ships in comparison to the time of the Falklands war and none in strategic reserve. We have less than half the strength of the Army in said time. The other point for you to note is that our military has never been designed as a home defence force but has allways been and operated on an Expeditionary Force. @@eamonnflanagan4180 ...noooo think you're definitely the purile one here given your first recourse was to personally mock me for my opinions on the matter, and if you're a real military veteran I'm Robert Cain. The British Army is the British Army mate, it's only been called an "expeditionary force" when it's been deployed in large numbers as such and that's actually pretty rarely if you look at it's over 400-year history. Britain's primary focus militarily has been the sea for at least the last three centuries right up until the end of WW2. As for the modern navy yeah it's still small and weak now, certainly indeed more so than in 1982 (in quantity at least if not quality), but that's not a permanent state of affairs as that's where most of the money's going, two new aircraft carriers and six new attack submarines along with three new whole classes of frigates, and eventually new classes of destroyer and ballistic-missile submarine planned too along with new support ships, assault ships, patrol ships, new aircraft and even drones and robot-boats, new missile launch systems and anti-missile laser guns, and bloody jetpacks for the Royal Marines lol, you name it sooner or later the Royal Navy appears to be gonna get it, just Google this stuff if you don't believe me. If we want to be a "Global Britain" as BoJo calls it we need that modern stronger navy yesterday, and that at least is one message that seems to have actually gotten through. As for the reserves well they're reserves, that's why you haven't seen much of them as so far nothing's arisen that's required them being called upon much that the regular forces couldn't handle
