  • The long time rivals of the arcade gaming world, Sega and Namco, debut arcade titles on the GameCube early in 2002 signaling an end to their own era as dominant players in the industry and the end of their long running role as opponents to Nintendo.

Smashing Drive is a hidden gem for me personally. I got it for $10 brand new months after it released, and while very short, I loved arcade racers like this. I can’t stress how many times I’ve replayed it to find every shortcut 🤣. 18 Wheeler was a fun one too, but I do recall being baffled the game ran at 30fps lol. I think these games needed to retail for $20 at launch to actually sell better for the time. Great episode man!

Yea I really tried to be as kind as I could even though I didn’t personally vibe with Smashing Drive. But it *really* says something if this game was down to $10 shortly after release 👀 looking forward to checking out the new Batman review later today! 👌

If you want full on spoilers of what’s literally coming up next check out the “Really Big List” in the description. All the GameCube games I plan to cover are laid out there and folks can weigh in on ones I should cover if I don’t plan to. Of course ignore this page if you want the releases to remain a surprise. Next one coming up this coming Friday 🤫

$50 MSRP would have been quite a tough sell for such straightforward arcade ports, back in the day. You really need a brand or a movie/television/sports licence attached to such games in order to push sufficient volumes in sales.

I have both of these games, but neither for the GameCube. I have the original version of 18 Wheeler for the Dreamcast and Smashing Drive for the Xbox.

I’ll always be a Dreamcast fan at heart since it was my first sixth gen console. Easy advantage over the other 2 versions is the Dreamcasts beautiful VGA output 👌takes the cake for that version

Smashing Drive is better remembered as a GBA showcase. It plays better in short bursts, and with the lowered standards of the platform?
It won a pretty good reputation. .

Absolutely right. I just don’t want to open the Pandora’s box of creating the expectation I’ll be covering every GBA game that goes with a GameCube game. The order I’ve set for myself is tall enough 😆

I have it for the Xbox, really fun game.
