I have so many memories with Extreme G! It was one of my OG GameCube games when I was younger
underrated game. right up there with f-zero gx, wipeout xl & the greats.
Excellent historical aspect to this heavily underrated gem for the GameCube! I loved the original game on the N64, but its sequel was a complete mess. I remember trying this one out for the first time shortly after the GC launched and was blown away at the leap forward for the franchise it was. Also, congrats on the 200 subs! Here’s to far more!
I didn’t want to spoil things before you watched but yup I’d deff call this one a hidden gem for anyone who likes racing games. I was surprisingly impressed. And thank you! I wouldn’t have had such growth without support from folks like yourself.
This was a neat game, I still have it! Also protip: You can get a big boost at the start if you hit A at each number of the countdown! The thrust gauge flashes red each time you do it right.
Extreme G needs to make a comeback. The Future Racing genre in general is sorely under-represented nowadays!
Sidenote, Cheltenham is pronounced "Chelt-nam" You don't pronounce the e or the h. :P
I’m blown away by the level of care you put into this video, can you do one for XGRA? Also remember the cheat where you go faster than any racing game ever existed?
I recently picked up this game from a mall retro selling gathering, it was basically untouched and I saw it had decent reviews and was cheap, so why not. Should try it out sometime.
This looks indeed pretty good. I was always a Wipeout kind of guy and when Wipeout 3 came out it was to me the absolute pinnacle of speedy hover racing.
But when you use an emulator with the setting to overclock and diminish the native framerates of the system, Extreme G 2 became even faster and while the tricky track design still made it frustrating to some due to crashes, once you get the framerate issues out of the way, the controls do also become a bit more accurate (depending on which controller you're using) and it does become so satisfying to nail all those corners at the right speeds with sliding and braking.
awesome video man, just subbed
0:42 Correction, F-Zero came out in late 1990, while Sonic the Hedgehog came out in mid 1991. However, F-Zero did take over half a year to come out in north america, and over a full year to come out in europe. Which was after Sonic's release in those continents. Though a simple google search still shows the japanese release date by default for F-Zero. So I don't know how you got the perception it was made in response to a growing demand for speedy games set by Sonic the Hedgehog.
I don't even remember this game coming out. It looks pretty nice, though.
Game cube is the perfect melee weapon
In XG2 on the track Skyline Drop on the long straightway down the hill while using boost on a booster you can go so fast the game will glitch and sometimes crash or throw you out of bounds doing 999MPH+. It's so amazing!
I'm more of a fan of eXtrem G than Wipeout and F Zero, but love all three franchises. eXtreme G III mix "the best of all" in one package. Very underrated gem. Thank you for the dedication to this videos content. 😎
Great video and you've got a sub 👍. I absolutely loved this game on the GC. It was beautiful, satisfying to master/complete and so incredibly fast especially later in the game. Had the PS2 version too. It sucked by comparison, performance wise and visually due to the sandpaper resolution. One of the best things about the GC was it's smooth resolution. I wish XGiii came to switch.
One can never have enough GameCube videos, awesome channel!
This game is the Dark Souls of racing games
While the Steam re-release of Extreme-G 2 in 2017 initially was a mess, it has been fixed in the meantime and without framerate problems it actually is a very atmospheric and fun game - if you take the time to learn the tracks
Really? I didn't know they fixed that up. I remember the launcher for it had a weird speed slider that would balance game speed and framerate. For some reason, if you didn't run at like 22 FPS, it would play too fast or slow. Dumb. Also steering was hard-coded and couldn't be changed. It's a fun game though, I should see what the updates have done for it.
@@roflBeck Well, the slider is still there, and if it really plays at the right speed (or too fast) is debatable, and the menus are still keyboard only... but they fixed the visual glitches, and it runs at least better than the choppy N64 version
The levels of XG2 were its largest detriment, even more so than the frame rate. Tight corners everywhere made them too demanding.
Wow.. i just stumbled on your channel and your content is really well made and professional.
You deserve way more subscribers.
So I did my part and subscribed.
Keep up the great work 👍
I know it's not your fault - and there are loads of UK cities that have bizzare names, but I adored your take on saying 'Cheltenham' out loud.
... 😂 sorry. Great video as always, and on a series I didn't know a lot about!
Yeaaa I had a feeling I was stepping in that one. Should have looked for pronunciations somewhere first. Live and learn 😅
This really was a great early GC racer - I can’t believe it’s been twenty years! I had to persuade my mom to buy it for me - I was young and she wasn’t happy with the outfit worn by the woman on the cover 😂 Does anyone else remember the song from the level set in a futuristic Japan? Hey DJ! Gimme a fat G!
Love this channel. Very informative and interesting videos but please tone down the beginning theme song since I watch your videos to relax and then the start of the next video blows my eardrums out. Thanks again
Probe software did great with extreme g
This is pro!
I played the N64 version, multiplayer in the arena were the best.
Do a video about Silicon Valley from the N64. It is an interesting game too.
And then Sega (AV) made F-Zero GX and put the genre to bed, still the best future racer you can play.
watching someone doing a so freaking bad driving in extreme g 2 only to remark the critics to handling and level design is so lame...
I love me some GameCube graphics!!!
