It seems like a lot of people tend to forget that it took 2 years of searching to find Air France 447 on the ocean floor and that plane went down almost exactly where they thought it did, on its intended flight path.
It's not remotely strange that MH370 hasn't been found.
I have a feeling it will be decades before we find it, I think it will be found in my lifetime however
I mean, even some cars that crashed into a river or pond sometimes takes years to be found. And this plane crashes into the super massive and probably very deep Indian Ocean. Wont be surprised it would take a total coincidence to found it.

47:41 hi Charlie, pilot here, yes government monitored zones are absolutely visible. They are referred to as restricted airspaces typically. Not always restricting flight, but restricting relative anonymity. Governments need to know exactly who is entering their airspace
And thus pilots need to know if they are entering a government monitored territory. Not all flights are permitted in certain places so pilots need to know if they have proper clearance.

I do wanna add that cockpit doors have been made extremely durable ever since 9/11. There’s a keypad plane staff can use to get in, but the pilot can turn that off.
The year after this the Germanwings co-pilot who locked the pilot out and then flew into the mountains happened. I think maybe on MH370, the co-pilot went to the bathroom and then the pilot locked him out and took over. It would explain the first officers phone, the turn, the rolling black out, and the “stress” in the pilots voice could be because he knew what was going to happen.

No because it’s not an actual theory in the real world.
Without giving away too much about him personally, my uncle worked at Rockwell Collins as an avionics engineer through the '80s and '90s when they were setting up the autopilot systems specifically on the 777 (among other contracts and aircraft). I once asked him about MH370 and he simply said "Foul play. That's all I'll say about it." I originally thought that he was just stubbornly refusing to believe that his work could have problems, but today I learned what he probably was already thinking: if the plane disappeared between two airspaces, it was suddenly MUCH more likely that this was not a tragic accident. To this day it's kind of a hot button topic for him and freaks him out to talk about it, him knowing how complex those systems are and how many redundencies and failsafes there are to either prevent, alleviate, or report the significance of issues and malfunctions, and how possible it is that something very, very, very wrong was going on up in the sky that day that nobody will ever know about

It makes perfect sense to me that he would've wanted to kill himself flying a plane and he would've wanted to make the plane disappear so A: He isn't remembered as a monster who killed hundreds of people and B: The case becomes a historic moment in aviation

as a malaysian and a former aviation management (i dropped out) student, this is actually so fascinating and sad.

That’s what makes me assume the lithium fire is the most likely. They didn’t declare it was a dangerous good and with the flight disappearing they could blame it on the pilot limiting liability for shipping an insanely dangerous amount of lithium batteries.

I feel like that would be particularly hard to make a video on (for them). It's difficult to make jokes about crimes involving children, and It isn't in their style to make videos that are completely depressing without cracking a joke or two.

A reason for the intense desire to not want the crash site found is pretty simple to take a guess on: Insurance money.
As long as no one knows for sure who was flying the plane, the family can still claim life insurance. You see that sort of thing all the time in "self-decease" cases where the person still wants their loved ones to get taken care of properly.
probably also just don’t want to be found, letting their loved ones live through the shame. as a loved and respected person in their community, i can understand how and why.
That's what makes the most sense to me. There's no reason I hijacker would want to hide it as they're usually at least trying to make a statement with their actions (if nothing else) but someone with a family ending themselves might. If he really felt like he couldn't go on, he may have felt ensuring insurance payout would be on thing he could do for his family. Having attempted myself (15 years since attempting, dw about me), these kinds of things are on your mind sometimes when you're thinking about it.
That said, I will never wrap my head around being willing to take all those people with him. He may of thought about his family but not the family of the strangers on board who had absolutely nothing to-do with him. I felt bad enough about whoever would have to find me, I'll never understand people that take others out with them like that.
That's my thoughts. Even if it wasn't about the money if he could make it seem like he wasn't responsible it would be easier for his family and especially his kids to digest that he died in a strange accident than for them to know he was responsible for it. And he probably didn't want to leave a body behind to traumatize his family to have to see, and he could die doing what he loved (not to excuse what he did)
@@sourgreendolly7685 yeah i agree completely with the ladder half of what you said, and sympathize with it too. but i swear people like this, when they're so corrupted with the temptation to end everything. can be good people up until that final moment, and i can imagine to a person like that. it doesnt take alot of effort to do the upmost, most horrible thing, on an instant, if they know it'll be the last thing they do and wont face reprocussions.
its so fucked up, but I think its both, for insurance money, and because whoever did it, knew they couldnt be verifably definitively blamed for doing it, if the wreckage was never found, along with the black box. but I dont understand like prepping for such a thing, cuz one pilot had evidence against him via the flight sims. so if he had planned it from that point forward, i really got no idea how you take out a whole plane of people with you and at no point in prepping to do that, feel sympathy or express something is wrong you, unless you're just some total hidden psychopath. cuz an example of someone doing the opposite was the "Sky King" that guy in i think Seattle or something that stole a plane, by himself, with no one on board, and crashed into an island and died. he didnt kill anyone and he actively tried not too. I just think when people point at the fact he crashed into an island, they fail to realize he probably just wanted his body recovered to some degree. hence why he didnt dive into the ocean. like that dude, was clearly just doing it to end his own life.
what confuses me though is neither one of the pilots on the 370 show that they would have any reason to be so malicious towards the lives of other people. neither one of them showed signs of that, so its hard to say they did it on purpose, but all signs point towards an intentional accident, so what the hell happend man.
I believe the reason the pilot may want it to be a mystery is to HIDE the fact he killed himself. Perhaps out of shame, or a desire to avoid shame on his family or maybe ensure that his family recieved compensation from the airline for his death.

1:45:40 - I think on this point of why the co-pilot would be out of his seat and have his phone turned on, I think the pilot could have told him there was a problem and sent him out of the cockpit telling him to check on it, then locked him out of the cockpit. The pilot might even have said he had to lock the door behind him for safety, buying him even more time before the co-pilot realized something was seriously wrong with the pilot. Obviously that is not the protocol, but when the senior pilot tells the trainee to do something, is the trainee going to stand up to them? Especially if there is a problem going on? Then, once the co-pilot is out of the cabin he will also be affected by the oxygen deprivation from depressurization, which then explains why he didn't make a call when his phone briefly connected, because he wasn't awake or alert enough to recognize it connected

I essentially agree. Green Dot aviation suggests that it could’ve been something as simple as the pilot asking the trainee to make them a cup of coffee to get him to leave the cockpit
@@brettfafata3017 If this theory is true, and had we recovered the black box and learned about the risk of leaving the pilot alone, it might have prevented the Germanwings disaster.
Thank you for mentioning this. In Greendot Aviation’s video he posits that the copilot had access to a longer lasting crew oxygen mask, meaning he would have been likely the only person awake long enough to try his phone. The motive of the pilot doesn’t seem hard to believe I’m not sure why people question it, pre meditated mass murder with meticulous planning is not a new thing to modern humans, and Pilots are still human.
Fun fact about crystals: I know analog clocks/watches aren't talked about as much anymore, but quartz crystals are used there as well! They are just really good at transferring vibrations with an extremely low marigin of error.

I do believe the flight was hijacked by Captain Zahrie there is just so much evidence stacked in the favor of suggesting he did it, He could have easily told the Co pilot Fariq to go do a task or waited for him to use the bathroom before depressurizing the plane and you can lock someone out of the cockpit if they leave it, As far as Charlie being so stunned as to why he would try to hide it, It seems pretty obvious to me that if it was known he did it on purpose then it's ruled a suicide and therefore his family would get no life insurance and the airline would not compensate his family that's the most reasonable assumption in my mind.
Yeah this case fascinates me so much even though i think it's pretty clear cut case that Captain Zaharie was the one who hijacked the plane. For it to have been anyone else makes no real sense. I also believe the depressurization unlike charlie which makes it all the more eerie, the dude basically flew for like 7hrs with 200 dead people behind him. It's impossible to get into his headspace but seeing how meticulous the rest of the Hijacking was it makes sense that he would go to great lengths to hide it. Wouldn't be a stretch to think he wanted to go down as a unsolvable mystery, giving him control over the situation.

You think to yourself, "what has become of my life, and why is it so boring" as you fly over the South China Sea. Besides a small incident in Shanghai you've always had a great track record, and though the temptation was there to just... fly off somewhere you had never fallen to those intrusive thoughts before. That is... until you hear it, a voice beckoning out from the opposite direction of you, telling, commanding, begging you to fly to it. Without a seconds hesitation despite the years worth of upstanding safety knowledge and the fact that you're fully loaded with people, you lock the pilot controls and dart towards the source. You continue to fly over the Andaman Sea, ignoring the sheer panic of the passengers and crew within you. Then you see it, some weird space-time apparition greets you with an infinite strangeness. Without hesitation you fly into it. To say the least its quite a bumpy ride as the space time distortion sheers off several small parts of you. However after giving your passengers the worst acid trip of their lives, you're spat out right in front of a massive tentacled jet black flying saucer. It immediately pulls you into its hangar and has its minions forcibly extricate all of your passengers into its unknowable bowels. They are no longer your concern however, as the saucer gives the new purpose in life you've always wanted, promising you fantastical airborne adventures and powers you've never known. It shows you your first mission: the capture of another Boeing airplane of a strange, and frankly shoddy make that the saucer had once captured but had escaped. With a delightful glee you accept the mission and after an upgrade process that goes much smoother this time in comparison to that Boeing 737 Max's upgrade, you set out to bring this airplane to justice.

I flew to Malaysia on Turkish Airlines (yes that's important) about 2 weeks before MH370 disappeared. When I told someone I flew there, they asked me if I was on that plane. Not that I was on that airline, that I was on flight MH370. When it disappeared.

I know a person that was a traindriver that took his life getting run over by a train. He did it in a spot nobody wouldve seen it happen.

Yk one unsettling and sad after effect of this tragedy is how you can still see the local victim’s belongings, specifically cars as they parked it at the airport where the flight took off. I was at the same aiport a year ago and passed thru one of them. Untouched and collecting dust ever since.

I mean realistically it’s all speculation, I have a huge problem assuming how people should act in situations like these based on how they should act we realistically can’t know how any person would react to that.
I also find it suspicious that right after this flight goes missing they pass legislation that requires planes with more then 2 ion batteries to comply with hazardous goods requirements.
@bloomleaf8310 Because people were speculating that they caused the problems on the flight, the case was so big it brought the dangers on ion batteries on planes into the public eye, which then forced the government to act to fix the problem.
@@bloodyneptune generally changes to regulations like that don’t happen just over speculation, so I tend to find a lot more validity in the fire theory then a lot of others.

The government could not definitively prove what happened to MH370 but the public was getting informed and afraid of lithium batteries because of this case so the government placated them.
The fire theory makes no sense. Why did he turn off his ACARS(it’s 100% proven that it was turned off by hand and not a system failure)? Why did he do a 180 and fly off into the ocean? I’ve never heard of a fire taking out a plane before anyone can contact the ground to inform them there is a fire.
The Lore Lodge did an uhh-mazing job at covering this in their video pretty recent. I'm sad Wendigoon didn't shout him out I highly recommend

honestly kinda real. i love all three of them as creators and it’s nice to refresh my memory on these popular cases, and i’m sure they’re probably doing it to cover ground and get decent reach at the start w popular topics, but i would love to learn something completely new from them.

@@BrazaBryan so something that was floating around was that the people on the mh370 were going to review a patent for a semiconductor that they were working on which Freescale was doing but none of the people on the plane were any of the 4 who actually held the patent (i don't remember the specifics of why this was believed to cause it though.)
and i would have to see have they usually do travel for me to be swayed one way or the other if they routinely sent decent sized groups like that then to me there is nothing there but if they had always sent them in like groups of 2-3 over multiple plains then ya it would be suspicious but i don't think we have enough to go either way on that.

So my thought on the whole "why make it mysterious if you're unaliving" is that if he was going through maratial issues that drove him to this point, he might have wanted to make his wife hurt. Losing someone to themselves and losing someone to some other force both hurt, but differently. Maybe in his mind, if he was involved in a tragic accident it would hurt her more; knowing there was nothing that she could have done to prevent it. Losing someone to themselves often comes with "maybe if I had done this", "maybe I could have saved them" thoughts, but to an "outside force" there isn't really anything you could have done differently to save them aside from maybe not letting them go, this was just meant to happen and we had to end on a sour note. You just feel more helpless in that situation.
But that's just some speculation on IF he did this.
This hits so close to home. I live in Singapore, just south of Malaysia. This was on the news for the next few damned months.
i don’t often comment under yt vids, but I have to say this episode was truly great. i was really into the mh370 disappearance a few years back and thought i knew a whole lot about it. i figured i would watch this episode (like i do every read thread one, ofc) for casual interest. turns out there is a lot i didn’t know about the case, and a lot that’s come out in the past few years. shoutout to Jackson for the amazing research. i learned so much, and this tragedy keeps on paining me. thank you red threat.
As an avionics technician, all the 'airways' can be displayed on any modern moving map GPS. The flight sim Charlie played most likely has that option too, you just have to know where to turn it on and it depends on what type of GPS it is.

Hey Jackson, Charlie, and Isaiah! Love the show! You guys should definitely consider doing an episode on the 1959 Clutter family murders. A great source for the case is the book “In Cold Blood” by Truman Capote, where he writes from the perspective of the murderers. I was assigned this book for a high school English class and thought it was really interesting.
A few details on the case to pique your interest:
• The crime appeared to be a completely random act of extreme violence, which was originally intended to be a robbery
• It turns out the family kept no money in cash form so the robbery was almost completely fruitless.
• The personalities and minds of the murderers is very fascinating to look into. One is more narcissistic and cunning, while the other is more timid and follower-like. They play into each other in an interesting and dangerous way.
• The murderers’ great escape from the police was also very complex and showed a lot about their mentalities.
This is one of the most interesting true crime cases in American history (in my opinion), and there’s a lot of sources out there on the topic. There’s also a movie. I think it could make a great episode for y’all to cover! Again love the podcast and please keep it up! 😊🫶

maybe the pilot put an absurd amount of effort into making it a big mystery because that's what he wanted. it's a long shot but think about it. that german guy that flew a plane into the side of a mountain gets mentioned from time to time but it's a footnote in aviation disaster history. no one's making documentaries about it, no one's making 2 hour long podcasts about it, no one is still having in-depth discussions about it. MH370, on the other hand, you can hardly think of a more well-known event in aviation disaster history. maybe 9/11 counts? Either way, we're still talking about it and maybe that's what he wanted

As an airport ramp agent, I can say that you can just shorten the seven seven seven to “triple 7”. That’s what we call it 😄
Also, the lithium battery thing probably wasn’t an issue since they’re pretty much in every flight that has an electric scooter/wheelchair using passenger.
Basically if it was a lithium ion battery fire, the emergency fire suppression system in the pit (cargo pit) would activate. It’s nothing that would make the pilots unable to respond to anything.
Jackson I’ll be honest, you putting us in the shoes of something bizarre at the beginning of the episodes is probably the most iconic thing about these episodes. Please continue them. It’s not the mystery that makes it funny, it’s the situation you put the viewer in. Love the podcast anyways you guys rock! Can’t wait for the next one.

There was actually an instance where someone onboard the plane called a loved one, BUT she got scared and didn't pick up the phone. (I'm not sure how true that one is, I think it was on the Netflix documentary and I can't find anything on it besides reddit and ladbible)
Also, it is theorised that Zaharie was looking at his hometown before he started going straight to the Indian ocean:

In my opinion I think this was mass S*****e. I think there are too many coincidences relating to Zaharie. Although I do agree that it would be awful if he actually was trying everything to get the plane under control and couldn't.

The most common theory is that the pilot locked the copilot out of the cockpit and depressurized the plane. A few years later Germanwings crashed when one of the pilots did the same thing (minus the depressurization). If we had found MH370 and saw that leaving the pilot alone was a dangerous thing, it might have saved the Germanwings flight.
I never heard of that incident. Wow. You might just be right.

Was hoping you guys would have Ashton Forbes on or at least reference some of his work. He is the "alien's abducted the plane guy". His theory is more along the lines of advanced secret technology, patented by Lockheed Martin, was used to teleport the plane. Not saying it's true but the videos are interesting and he repeatedly addresses the debunkers. The motive of teleporting the plane is also interesting as there were Freescale Semiconductor engineers on board - keep in mind heading to Beijing. He also addressed the lithium ion battery fires being extinguished by halon gas. Just check it out!
Edit: not to mention the fact that some of the passengers phones were still ringing when called. Doesn't make sense that they would ring when under water.

Guy's whole theory fell apart when the lore lodge video editor literally recreated one of the videos in just a few minutes on camera and matched up the video game effect exactly with Ashton's video and that's just a guy who edits videos. If those big vfx guys ashton was sperging out about felt so inclined they'd be able to recreate those videos pretty faithfully. It's just schizo babble.
