Is the 2020 Cadillac XT6 as GOOD as the Escalade just SMALLER?

  • The XT6 is all new and fills a gap in Cadillac's lineup. Under the hood is a 3.6L V6 producing 310 HP & mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. It's exterior dimensions make this a midsize that slots in between the Escalade & XT5. On the inside you have 3-row capability and a high level of fit and finish. Is the 2020 Cadillac XT6 as good as the Escalade just smaller?

This is a supped up Chevy Traverse, not an uber luxury SUV or crossover like what you're talking about. No one is comparing a Range this size to a Cadillac. If Jaguar made something this size too, the pricing would be at the 70/75k and up. Those cars are just in different categories of luxury. That's what I'm talking about.

The Cadillac XT6 is the vehicle people need but no one wants. It is essentially a luxury minivan disguised as a crossover. That 2000lb payload capacity goes unmatched by literally anything that isn't a van or a pickup, not even the Escalade can carry as much. It's main issue is that it's an Acadia with a Cadillac front face and dashboard. (For the sake of arguement I will ignore the GMC Acadia Denali, Chevy Traverse High Country and Buick Enclave Avenir as all 3 are better value and 90% of the quality as this) Personally I think it looks extremely cheap, but that might just be due to the black on black on black.
This is supposed to compete with the Aviator, but the advantage Lincoln has is that the platform was designed for the Aviator, then down scaled for the Explorer, not the other way around as GM did it. It also has to compete with European offerings like the X7, GLS, and XC90, which in comparison it's a total joke with a FWD based system and only that wimpy NA 3.6 V6. GM has a lot of faith in that shitty little V6 since it even powers their CT6 up until the top trim, the CT4 and CT5 both have more powerful base turbo engines. Anyways this thing really is really no where near the competition and is just a desperate move by GM to fill that sweet sweet crossover market. As much as the C1XX platform is great for the Traverse and Enclave, the Blazer, Acadia and this need a RWD platform with some much better engines, since that would compensate for the lackluster interiors in a way most would forgive. (Could you imagine this with the blackwing 4.2 TT V8?)

Even more striking than the Aviator's advantage over the Caddy XT6 is that it's arguably a better value (!) than a comparable top trim Explorer. The top trims of the Explorer (ST and Platinum) with AWD have MSRP's of $60,000 or so. A moderately optioned mid-level "Reserve" trim of the Aviator is about $4000 more. It shares the RWD-biased AWD system and the 400 HP engine of the Explorer ST along with a far more upscale interior. Even more striking is that the RWD platform of each is supposed to provide a significant benefit in terms of towing. But the Explorer is has a tow rating of 5600 lbs, only slightly more than the 5000 lb rating of several FWD platform rivals. The Aviator, on the other hand is rated at 6700 lbs.
If one is going to spend $60K-$70K for a midsize three row SUV, the Aviator looks to be a far better value than the Explorer Not to mention the Caddy.

Not seeing how this is worth 30k more than the wife's Palisade! I have NO CLUE how my cousins 40 more thousand Escalade is worth that. Our Palisade is just as luxurious, way more refined safety features, WAY better infotainment, way better usable options, just as much power, better warranty, and even though it's a first year vehicle, I would bet better reliability.

That is actually not the iconic Cadillac logo. Fun fact, in 2010 I believe or whenever the previous gen CTS came out, Cadillac removed the iconic leaf/floral crown ( like Julius Caesar wore) from the Cadillac logo we see today. They said they wanted to appeal to a younger audience and younger people preferred that logo so they changed it.

For that price, I wish they would offer an "older buyer" option" including more chrome or brushed steel trimming and dashboard. Their current look may appeal to a younger crowd, but, I think Cadillac is only fueling the rebadged Chevy image with leather, carbon fiber, alcantara., plastic. JMO.

I actually don't like the XT6 at all, I do give credits for the styling tho, very appealing. But, in the interior, it kinda lacks behind the competition, very outdated and old interior, compared to the Aviator, but I do like piano black trim, it looks good, but not the best. The engine is very, very bland and underpowered compared to the competition, like the Aviator or the X7(srry im really bias to lincoln). I can not stand the price, 76 grand for a chevy traverse in a suit, plus with very little innovation, that a ZONK for me. Caddy is late to the mid-size, 7 seat SUV market, and I hope they do a better job in the next refresh. Thanks, Joe, very good and unbiased review as always
