- Is everyone in South Carolina a golfer?
Are a lot of people here God fearing Christians?
And does EVERYONE talk like Foghorn Leghorn here?
We’ll answer those questions and more. So ya’ll should grab your hush puppies and barbecue, we’re gonna unbox the state of South Carolina!
Wow. So pretty. What a nice coast, huh? This is the South Carolina coast. One of the prettiest stretches of land in the nation. A lot of South Carolina’s coast is this beautiful.
But as we’ll see, not ALL of South Carolina beaches are magnificent. And, obviously, the whole state isn’t a big beach. Because we don’t have any states like that.
South Carolina is a big state with a lot of different regions. And a lot of history, too. And to completely understand this whole state, we should give a general overview, and then focus on each region.
This... is South Carolina. You can basically break this state into 6 different areas. Each one has its own distinct identity.

I am a proud educated, non-smoking, golfing, non-confederate flag flying, faithful churchgoing, sweet tea drinking life-long South Carolinian. I've watched your SC related videos, and I have to say, you are emphasizing the negative, and missing out on the positive. I'll leave you with this, " Bless your heart."
He is doing us a service, leaving out the positives. What makes you think we want the whole country moving here because its "so great"? Think about it.
LOL😅😂🤣
I have lived in the South most of my life. I loved what you said near the end of the video. All the people moving into South Carolina are changing it and its not necessarily a good thing. So many people leave states that are fiscally bankrupt looking for a better life. They forget what caused their ruin.
you know a lot of people are leaving areas because they know that their current states suck and want the change. I don't want to bring CA with me, it's a moral dump.
Don't want to move to SC because of the yearly car tax, no yearly car tax in PA! U just pay car tax once here when u buy it!
@@jgrysiak6566 I'm in TN. No income tax. No annual tax on cars, boats and such. No luxury taxes. Just plain old property taxes which aren't too bad
@@jgrysiak6566 Count your blessings! I pay more in taxes and insurance than necessary . . .
@@Growla Great deal! Also love TN, hope it stays charming.
I'm a native South Carolinian. I understand that SC is certainly not perfect but I can't imagine living anywhere else.
You Would Not Like Tons Of Snow And Ice In The Winter Time..Minus 40 Below..
@@mgtowp.l.7756 Definitely not!
Imagine living in South Carolina lmao
I agree I'm from South Carolina too , looking to move back their after loving in Philadelphia for over 40 years it's time to Go..............
I lived there for 4 years, North Carolina is a lot better than South Carolina. I'm glad you like it though, my in laws still live there, they love the extra low property taxes but complain about everything else lol
If you were a Northeast kid and made regular trips to Florida, South Carolina was known as the place with South of the Border, and a lot of places to buy fireworks.
So true lol. My husband is from a small town called Ruby, about 45 minutes from Monroe, NC and I swear you see fireworks stands almost every 10 minutes lol. We're driving there next week from California.
As a Floridian I'm tired of seeing my state as just a place for tourist its way to touristy here which makes me wanna move
@@catboy9066 I think it’s worse in North Carolina
It wasnt a place people moved to as often as FL but now that might be changing. I came here and found an influx in 2021. Some even leaving FL to come to SC now.. What the hell lol.
Still is!
As a South Carolinian, this was extremely accurate and hilarious
As a born and raised South Carolinaian you got it literally spot on😂🙌🏽 (except for the McMaster accent...only really old RICH people still sound like him)
@@naftolipickard3785 Southern accents are common anywhere in South Carolina that isn't Charleston or Hilton Head. Charleston, once the "Most Southern" city is America, has been a lightning rod for migration, particularly from up north. In Greenville and Spartanburg you'll run across fewer native speakers than in Easley or Pickens, but they're still pretty common. Authentic Southern accents vary from area to area. There were 38 demographic groups in the state, before recent immigration increases. McMaster's accent is common in the Midlands. Strom Thurmond's had an Edgefield accent. The Upstate accent was influenced by Scotch-Irish settlement from PA and VA, and is an almost stereotypical hillbilly accent. There are several distinct accents along the coast.
58 years in Myrtle Beach,,,,,I've got the accent but I am not Old or Rich,,,,,Ladies from up north tell me all the time they love to hear me talk,,,,Living Large in SC
Every summer for like ten years .My grandma used to take all her grandkids to S.C from nyc. I miss them days. R.I..P to grandma.
People in SC are kind. They let you into traffic. They say hello and stop and talk to you. Coming from Florida, this was shocking.
@HoldXToRespawn Right! If you're Black, unfortunately some of them DON'T treat you the same way. Not all, but some.
@HoldXToRespawn LMAO!😄😂😄
Your so right im from ohio and went here for vacation my mom is a bad driver for example she doesn't realize the light is green and sits there for ever while there's people behind her and they don't say anything or even honk there horn people is ohio either flip you off get of there car and cus you out or honk at you 10 times
Kinda disappointed you didn’t get to speak on our hunting and fishing here in SC, bless your heart ❤️

We fled California in March for a home and new life in South Carolina. SC is a small state with a tremendous history. This is a great place to live and raise a family. Life is what you make of it, and yes the golf is great!

I lived in South Carolina for many years and this video is very accurate! I went to college in Myrtle Beach and t's very run-down, especially the closer you get to the beach and it's also full of people from the northeast, especially New Jersey, need I say more. Charleston is very historic and very hipster, much like Savannah. Hilton Head is by far the "nicest" area as far as low-crime and uppity beach communities but the vacation destination of native South Carolinians is Folly Beach, Edisto Beach, etc. as they are not nearly as crowded and built up. It's a state in transition. The state has so many transplants nowadays, especially in areas like Greenville, Myrtle Beach, Charleston, Columbia, and Hilton Head. Fantastic state overall with great culture, great food, fairly low cost of living, and beautiful sights!
I go to Hilton Head Island yearly (I live in the Sumter and Manning area) and I can say it’s a nice area, but you can just deal the liberalism there, which is one of the few things I dislike. Such as signs being hidden and not lit to “save the turtles”
There are snowbirds here, but this is our slowest time of year until The Heritage and The Masters golf tournament in March. Yes, Spring Break is still a thing here in March with some college kids and inviting their friends staying for free at their Grandma Mabel's (sic) house. Can't afford South Florida, but my GRANMA has a place!!
While I dislike living here, I’m 17 so I’m biased. My family’s been here for 200 years and I’m extremely thankful for being able to grow up in such a friendly, accommodating place. Charleston is my favorite place in the world. edit: “Empty wasteland” never have I agreed with something more.
The world doesn't seem big enough when you're 17 man, but you have the right attitude. You'll have plenty of time to find out. Just remember, always be glad for what you've had, it can go quick! Oxymoronic, I know, but still true somehow. God Speed!
You nailed this state pretty well. It's not the most open minded place for sure, but I've lived in the upstate for over 50 years.
If anyone wants to know what SC is actually like, come on and visit. And by the way, it's pronounced Gullah as in seagull, not ghoul.
Thank you! You can't say what a state is like if you don't live in it. I live in SC and proud of it.
@@49caldwell Apparently you must be Old, White, and Retired. Otherwise, it SUCKS!!! Lol!😄😂😄😭

I moved from San Francisco to a smallish town (50k pop) near Charleston 7 years ago. It’s true SC tends to be God fearing, but I’d rather fear God than my neighbors. I find the accent quite nice, it matches the summers, slow & sweet. Nick didn’t mention that Charleston is the #1 Tourist destination in the US or that’s it’s a serious foodie city. My small town has 2 great wine bars, one run by a French Sommelier. Good times, good people, good wine, what more could you want? The nice people & the beauty are what brought my husband & I to SC & we haven’t been disappointed. It’s true the summers are hot, but public & private pools abound & there’s nothing better than sinking into your pool on a hot southern day. Charleston also has the oldest museum in the US, plus many more. I recommend them highly.
About the phrase “Bless Your Heart” I’m happy to say no one has ever said that to me, but then I love SC & wouldn’t consider living anywhere else.
Summerville? We live on the Charleston County side. Technically, Ladson. But my kids went to school in Dorchester County for a long time. The county lines are strange here! When we lived in Lakes of Summerville, our street was Charleston county, the back of the neighborhood is Berkeley and the front couple of streets are Dorchester. Had to call 911 once, and they argued over which county should respond...
Well bless your heart! 😅 Outside Chas. you might not want to ask for a sommelier, the proprietor might not know what he or she is/does... Unless you get up to Columbia or Aiken, there's some beautiful horse country. Glad you have found us to your liking.
Joshua Swindell Finally, someone says Bless your heart to me! Thank you, I think. You’d be surprised at our town 30 minutes from Chas, one of the wine bars is owned by a Sommelier, from France no less. Aiken is absolutely beautiful, although I don’t play polo. I’ve definitely found SC to my liking.
".. It’s true SC tends to be God fearing, but I’d rather fear God than my neighbors.." Well said. Blessings. SC sounds like a place I might love.
We like it the way it is here. And if someone wants to move in - please "leave your baggage" outside and don't bring it in. There was a reason why you left your place, so who need those "reasons" here? Otherwise - welcome ya all!
Agreed, my wife and I are thinking of going out there from NY. But we are leaving NY in NY.
@Black Orchid Apparently you DON'T like change. That's why South Carolina is the 7th POOREST State. A total Lack of Progression. SMH.
@@michaelmcmillan1425 oooohhhh SNAP. Nice one. Good catch on reading between the lines 👍
@@canderson718 Thank you.
Rank low in education. Low in wealth, high in crime rate and welfare usage. Oh yea SC needs to stay the way it is!
For years folks have been fleeing rural communities for big cities due to more work opportunities or for prestigious universities. Being born and raised in one of those cities we never rejected these people. We welcomed them in and allowed them to be who they are and use our resources. It’s disappointing to see so many negative comments not wanting us in your community? Double standard.
Nick are you a history teacher, you sure are well informed about these places & those little pockets. Quite relaxing watching your videos and those little funny snippets that you do just cracks me up. Good material indeed .
Your videos are so good and on point! You know so much about each state! It's unbelievable. Thanks for sharing!

it will be soon swear!
As a south carolina native, I can confirm the first things are unfortunatley true.
I was born in South Carolina and spent my first 28 years, left for work reasons. It's got plenty of flaws and some ugly history, but it's also beautiful and interesting culture. I do get homesick, but returning isn't in the cards beyond visiting family for the foreseeable future. Two thoughts, with that in mind:
"Bless your heart" is not expressly an insult, but an expression of sympathy. Whether it is an insult is based entirely on what the sympathy is being expressed for and whether you actually would want such sympathy.
Aside from the obvious problems with Confederate worship in SC, it also obscures just how much important Revolutionary War history, particularly battle sites, can be found all over the state that is worth checking out if you're a history buff. The Mel Gibson movie "The Patriot" did a bad job of explaining that history, though-- so if you're ever in Camden (which has great Revolutionary War history sites), save yourself the awkward moment of asking where the British rounded up Americans and burned them to death in the church. That definitely didn't happen.
Cool!
In Texas, it's an insult.
Yooo foghorn leghorn/ governor accent comparison is hilarious 😂
He's cool!
I want to thank you very much for taking the time to explain the Carolina state. Because of your video I know more than I ever did. Keep up the good work. Excellent video.

Fireball and trailer parks what a wonderful combination. Great video Nick.........Go Cocks!!
Your narration and commentary are hilarious it’s pretty much the thing that keeps me watching.
I would love to see a video of the 10 best cities in South Carolina to live in.
I'm a transplant from Boston. Love it here. A friend from up north asked me if we had any riots down here, like Seattle, Boston, etc. I laughed and said nope, police here don't play that, but the scary thing that keeps it quiet here,, is a Southern mother who takes her shoe off you know someones in trouble then !! 😂😂😂. Love it.
Mama I love YOU - we need more southern mamas!!
Everybody has guns and ain’t afraid to use them either
Lol not her shoe a hickry switch!
Hell no we don't have idiots rioting and looting. You'd hope the police got you, otherwise a gator or two might get a piece of you.
Welcome to the south, Basston. 😅

Illinois native here. I have vacationed in SC quite a lot. I love it! I do agree about Myrtle beach, some good sections and some bad sections. I prefer Hilton head. I proposed to my wife on top of the lighthouse in 1995. Must have been good luck, we are still together.
Love that region. As I used to live at Port Royal, SC. Might like Hunting Island a little better.

Coming from an SC resident, this is pretty accurate about the state. If there was one area I think deserved more spotlight, it would be the Beaufort area down near Savannah.
We do have a state that’s just a big beach... Hawaii.

I drink my fresh Kona coffee every morning looking at the ocean, I see gorgeous sunsets right out of my windows, I swim in a pristine and worm water all year round, I eat fresh exotic fruits from farmer market, I enjoy that all drivers are polite and let everyone to get on a road, I enjoy my time going hunting or just pleasure plinking at shooting range (gun laws are not that tough as they look like), I enjoy clear air and no air pollution (except when volcano spews more of volcanic gas), I enjoy not having gators, snakes, poisonous spiders, or other venomous creatures. Charlestons probably the prettiest city I've ever seen in the US. It's gorgeous there and nice weather in the winter

A few things you have mixed up with other states. Hush puppies are a North Carolina thing. You eat them with everything up there. You can find them in SC but not at most restaurants. Smoking is more a NC and Tennessee thing also. They have smoking sections. And Tea is grown in SC on wadmalaw island. Should be the state drink but I’m not a fan.
NC outlawed smoking in restaurants years ago, still allowed in SC though
You gotta try silver bays hush puppies, that’s good eatin.
