    Also something to note around Mighty Car Mods: we are normal guys and are not trained mechanics. We like to make interesting car mods and show you how we've gone about it, but we can't promise that anything we show you will work for your particular car, or that you won't harm yourself, someone else, your car or your warranty doing it. Please be safe, be responsible and unless you know what you're doing, do not fool around with very serious machinery just because you've seen us make it look so easy. There is no need for a heat gun and all that shibizzle...
    To roll your guards, all you need is a rolling pin and 2 people.
    1 person drives, 1 person using the rolling pin.
    place the rolling pin behind the wheel and let the driver SLOWLY drive forward. the wheel will grip to the wood pin and pull it under the guard as the wheel turns around. As you dive foward the guard will bend up, giving you bend guards. Simple, and perfect :D

  • @Carl205mi16
    @Carl205mi16 Před 14 lety

    you can also easily make a cheap DIY arch rolling tool using a scissor jack, a bit of welding would be required.... re dirt and water if you put a bead of silicone between the lip you will stop water and dirt getting caught to help limit chance of rusting!

    the return fold ads rigidity to the panel if you cut it off it will wobble.
    On cars with massive dish sometime the return is sliced off and some 6mm rod welded in around the arch radius to add some stiffness

  • @Samqdf

    its not the bigger wheel that causes the rubbing as they would have the same outside diameter unless someone stuffed up. Its the wider tyre and wheel as well as the greater offset in some cases.

    Whilst everyone thinks rolling the guards is a good idea, it really isn't, The further in you roll it, the deeper the crevice you create, which loves to catch water, it'll rust away your guards within 2 years. Experience.

    I have an older Nissan, and it has a large piece of steel that runs along the corners of the body for strength, so that's more than likely whats inside of that car too. So technically, it shouldn't bend it from jacking it up from there.

    • @DJAdrenaline
      @DJAdrenaline Před 9 lety

      ***** Part of the cars suspension designed from the manufacturer includes the size of the wheels. By changing the characteristics of one component of the suspension gives a chance for the car to become unaligned. Along with the diameter of the wheels also comes a few other measurements, such as width of the wheel and offset. When it comes to wheels the chance of the car becoming unaligned is small, but it all depends on how far you go from stock.

  • @Knopjes
    @Knopjes Před 14 lety

    Don't use this method. If you bend those edges 45 degrees upwards, you'll get dirt and water trapped on the inside of the arches. That, along with the damage you'll inevitably cause to the paintwork during this procedure, will cause your wheel arches to rust.
    Fitting big and wide rims on a small car will ruin the handling anyway, especially when the road is wet.

    LOL... there is an easier way.
    get a pole... stick it between the tyre and the guard and get some one to drive over it while some one holds the pole.
    I did it on a very low subaru that rubbed the guards really bad with out turning corners, they got 45 degrease on the car in the video but I got the metal to sit hard against the inside of the guard with out any paint cracking. It STILL rubbed so I flared the guard out with the pole about 0.5 - 1 inch. No paint cracked and it looked good.

    if your only going to go halfway with rolling the guards adding heat to the paint will make no difference. you would be surprised how much flex there is in paint these days, and half the time you do this on a car even if you think its not cracked and looks sweet the paint is full of tiny cracks and or delaminated from the steel anyway. risk either way. try buying wheels that fit your car to start with... :)
