    the distance in power equation is not the distance you'd jump but rather the distance between your center of mass in the low position of the jump and the takeoff position as you can no longer apply force when in the air, the power has to be output while still on the ground, this is when you accelerate. And since force is mass times acceleration, your mass matters hugely as well.

      yeah his explanation was a bit lacking. For the non-overweight, already athletic individual, though, his conclusion is correct. Distance isn't going to change much, time won't change much since it's essentially determined by the ratio of type 1 and 2 muscle fibers (which is mostly genetic), and if you weren't obese when you first measured your SVJ, your mass will increase proportionally with strength.
