The arch in the back for bench press also artificially shortens the range of motion, no?

It sure does!!! An extreme arch of the back turns a flat bench press into a decline press.

Rip with all due respect, I tend to think that I may be laying outside "the majority" who gotta pull sumo. I used to pull conventional, however I realized that my arms are too short given my height 6'3". At my starting position, my back is exactly parallel to the ground which creates an immense torque on the hips and lower back. And yes, I tried to make it better, watched many of your deadlift videos and yet the problem still persisted and my back ached more and more. So I had to do the ultimate shame-switching and now I pull sumo for a year now. My back is thankful and hope you do not flag me as a @!?$&. Cheers.

As a 6'4" person, I found this video after asking that exact question. I'm going to switch over and try it.

Yeah im also like 6 3 and my torso/femur length ratio is 2/3. could not get any leg drive at all. today i tried a semi-sumo stance (feet just outside hands) and i could use leg drive much better.

Sumo I can get in starting position with a slightly extended back. Conventional I can't get into position without lumbar flexion due to shit hip flexor mobility.

What about working on that hip flexor mobility?

Funny how Rip is a proponent of LB Squat(shortens ROM via a wider stance), but criticizes Sumo for the same reason. Particularly interesting, given Sumo DL actually has a practical injury-prevention component, where LB Squat doesn't really(at least to the same degree).

Alot of Sumo cope in the comments. Just do a proper deadlift y'all
