- Mount Baker, also known as Koma Kulshan, is the third tallest mountain in Washington. It is a thermally active volcano, with fumaroles venting sulfuric gases near the summit. Enormous glaciers blanket its slopes, which receive some of the highest snowfall totals in the world. This video takes you along the Heliotrope Ridge trail to our base camp and then along the Coleman Deming climbing route to the 10,718’ summit. This classic Northwest climb requires strength, ambition, and mountaineering skills. But for those that have what it takes, it is one in a lifetime experience that you will cherish forever.

Many years ago I was captivated by the beauty of this mountain from so far away. From the Lower Mainland of BC. Thank you for finally allowing me to experience the view from the top. It was quite moving. I felt like I was actually there. Outstanding! The Smithsonian Channel should broadcast this footage.

I also live in BC and often look up at Baker in amazement. I recently got really interested in mountaineering after watching 14 peaks on Netflix (amazing by the way). I was driving home yesterday and saw Baker in perfect weather and it dawned on me, Mount Everest is nearly 3 times the height as Baker, insanity. It makes me wonder how surreal it must be to actually see the Himalayas in person. One day I would like to try and summit Baker.

How cold
I want to start mountain climbing and climb this eventually. What do you reccommend me to do?

That sounds fantastic! I filmed it on June 19, so it was early summer. Typically, by August, you might find less snow compared to June, but it depends on the weather conditions. Good luck on your climb!
Once you set up base camp, how many hours were you just hanging out before the summit? I’m getting dragged to my first summit climb in a week, and would prefer to keep moving. Do you really just hang out there freezing for hours? Is it possible to summit and come down in the same day?
We spent the night at base camp. It's possible to summit in one day if you start super early.

This mountain can be seen from the White Rock, BC beach standing so high. What is the best month to climb this mountain in winter and summer?
June can be the best month to climb, but it depends on the snow and weather conditions each year.
May, June, July, august, September is the climbing season for baker. Depends though but that’s typically the best time to summit.
