- We climbed Mount Rainier in Washington on August 5th and for Christof it was a day that he’s thought about for a while. We decided to climb the mountain in one push from the parking lot. It’s a lot of mountain to cover in one day with 9,000 ft of elevation gain between us and the summit. In the end every step and every view was awesome. Rainier National Park never disappoints.

@@alexander-ky9gk there is a world of difference between "hiking" and the technical climbing that is Rainier. I can do 9miles in less than 2hrs with over 3000ft of gain and loss easy. I've also climbed 14ers and done some technical climbing. At 11000ft, you only have access to less than half of oxygen as you'd regularly get. From that point on, walking takes as much effort as running on sea level. With crampons on your feet, a hard boots that's much heavier even than the heaviest hiking boots, while doing glacier traverse...going 1mph is pretty fast.
Regularly folks, like you, take 2 full days to summit rainier and back, with the second day being at least 10 hours of gruesome ups and downs.
I'm sorry, your 4 miles of 2000+ doesn't really compare unless you are talking about something like My Denali.

Yup. All you'd have to do is climb the tallest tree in Florida.
You think you know what flat is, then you show up to Florida and the most steep hill you find is like a 2 degree incline.
It almost disobeys the laws of physics. I wouldn't be surprised if some study concluded that Florida is so flat, not even the curvature of the earth applies.

Denali: 11 hours 44 minutes is the current record and there’s video already. Honestly, Denali is a slog - these fellas chose the right mountain. Denali is a rope train mess on a much larger scale.

"They chose the right mountain" as though Rainier is easy. They took the kiddie route, you fucking moron, the one that 90% of people take, which is immaculately manicured by the guide services. If they were keen on demonstrating their bad-assery (which is the only reason someone does what they did), they should have climbed Liberty Ridge in a day or climbed Willis Wall in any length of time whatsoever.

I've watched this video probably a dozen or so times and every time I hear Danny say it took them 6 hours to summit... I'm dumbfounded. I hope to get to that level one day.

Getting up so early only to arrive at the parking lot with so much day ahead! And running down the mountain without taking time to enjoy the views!! Not my idea of enjoying a day in the mountain.

Brings back memories. In '69 I lived and worked at Paradise - first job out of high school, and taught the climbing school course at Paradise that beginners were required to take before climbing to Muir, then summit next day. Did the peak in one day, as I had to be back at work down below! Part of job was carrying trash from Muir to Paradise, and we were 'competitive' - my record pack weight was 165 pounds. Once we use a rescue sled to transport a 'gumby', (as we called dead climbers - because often they were frozen into odd positions), down to Paradise. The frozen body was wrapped in an orange plastic tarp, and when we reached the dirt path above Paradise a woman tourist asked if she could sit on the sled (we were putting the wheel on at that point) for a picture. We obliged, and then she asked what we were carrying. Not sure, but I think she still is screaming and running to this day. Good times!
I have always wanted to do Rainier but didn't have time/$$ for a two day adventure but this video inspired me and two experienced friends to do the one push this past weekend! Was an absolute blast and fun to compare our fitness (which we *thought* was pretty good to yours ;).
We ended up leaving Paradise at 10:30PM, summiting at 9:15AM and getting off around 3:30PM. We had some route finding issues on the way up in the morning which probably cost us an hour in total and then it was so darn hot by 10AM that hydration (needed over 6L in the heat total) problems slowed the descent considerably. Big props to you guys for making it look so easy but as a warning to those thinking about it at home, this is a serious mountain where you can get yourself into trouble very quickly. It's also a real roll of the dice with the weather/conditions, no parties summited the two days before or one after.

@Zach Blechner you definitely can climb it, just extensively train and prepare before, do some running/jogging, but also remember you're still young so don't rush or else you won't have any mountains left to climb by the time you're in your 20s haha good luck man

@@MarS-dc2qx 9,000 vert in 6 hours isn't easy under the best of circumstances. When your in a traffic jam near the summit and have to rope up and do a little bit of technical climbing it's crazy fast
A classic rainier experience: getting off an epic day in which most people would literally die, then getting chewed out to leave your parking spot so a Mazda driving tourist can park and have you take his picture at Paradise.

Did Rainier in 2009. I was so wiped out coming off the summit and back to Paradise that I could not get into the bus. The three steps to get inside was almost impossible. I think I crawled in. Anyway, nice to see you guys had energy to spare and positive attitudes.

Mount Rainier is somewhat unique among north american mountains because it’s the tallest peak of the Cascades and relatively close to a number of big outdoors cities.
rainier is close to many cities but not accessible for a huge part of the year since it can gets an average of 17 meters of snow a year.
That was really good time to the summit. Most groups leave Muir at 11pm-midnight, which means those groups had 4ish miles, 4500ft, and 2 hour headstart and you still caught them. Impressive. Those traffic jams can get super annoying too

I was standing at the top of Rainier yesterday and this video inspired me to train for and climb Rainier. And I have to say that I was not the only one in my guided group climbing Rainier thanks to this video. Truly inspiring. You guys rock.
Love your adventures and casual commentary. We're all amateurs; even the self proclaimed experts. I enjoy climbing mountains. This brings back memories. I climbed Rainier in 1974 with an 85lb pack not counting ropes in REI stiff rental boots and cotton socks, (hey, I was 16). I went with two out of shape guys who were so slow we had to sleep in the crater and descend the next day. It was quite the adventure.

Saw your video early last week as we were looking at conditions on the DC route. A few friends and I tried a one-day push on DC this past weekend as well. Reached 13500ft and decided to turn back as we hit our turn around time and were exhausted. Kudos to you guys for crushing it, this mountain broke us.

Right before the 5 minute mark when the sun was starting to come up in the back ground and make its way just over the horizon.. (or the "line" for all you flat earthers) was a beautiful sight to see. Who needs Everest and all its traffic jams, when we have trails like these right here in our backyard.. right? Hell yeah! Hats off to you my dear man. I've always allowed myself 3 days for this climb, so kudos to you! 6:05 you can see the tents at the Ingraham Flats high camp at about 11,500. 6:08 the peak behind you in the distance is Little Tahoma, 3rd highest point in the State of WA. Another worthy objective with a stimulating, exposed summit block. Astonishes me that you were running down. Not sure mediocre is an appropriate adjective for your efforts. What you accomplished approaches elite athlete levels. Congratulations and thanks for posting.

Summarizes the experience very nicely! Stirs recollections of my trip up with RMI. We did the “pancake seminar”- three nights at Camp Muir with some work in crevasse rescue. Back in those days, my climbing buddy and I could gain ~2500’/hour, but this terrain isn’t easy. For you to gain around a couple thousand feet per hour average is quite impressive! Congratulations on a successful BIG day.
Danny, Blake, Aaron, Christof and Matt thank you for filming all your adventures for us mere mortals!!! It takes a lot of extra energy to make these videos and you guys still manage to crush it! I have been binge watching through them whenever I get a chance. Getting in a few episodes now to fuel my own hype for this weekend's adventure. Cloud Peak. I've gathered you guys will take suggestions from viewers and I'd like to make one of my own you should definitely not pass up. The Cloud Peak Bomber lolli is one of the most beautiful, and fulfilling hikes Wyo has to offer. Cloud is 15th most prominent in the lower 48 and Bomber offers historical significance as the sight of a WWII B-17 flying fortress crash sight. Much of the wreckage is still there. I believe the whole route is about 24 miles with around 5k gain (I know that's not much for you beasts). You can add in Black Tooth and Mt Woolsey to add a few miles and some more vert. Its great to see your amount of views and subs is steadily going up. Have you guys thought about a viewer participation segment? You seem to have viewers from all your favorite areas and it'd pretty spectacular to share just a few miles of trail with you guys. Keep up the good work and I cannot wait until the next one. Onward and Upward!!

This was a lot of fun watching you guys. I just started mountain climbing within the last couple months. Started hiking the white mountains here in New Hampshire. We don't have anything quite as high as this, but I just started my checklist to complete the 48 4,000+ footers we do have.

I’m about to do a climb with RMI in September. Y’all did in one day what we’re gonna do in 3 which is both nuts, and also encouraging. Makes me feel like with 3 days of time to get up and down, we’ve got no excuses not to make it to the summit and back in one piece.
Day off from forest adventure times after 15 miles + 5000 feet of vert yesterday doing a loop around mt loch (Victoria's 4th highest mountain). Great to kick back and watch you guys get after it. I've lived in Washington most my life, my goal is to climb Mt Rainier someday. Great video, good to see you guys knock it out of the park no issues.
I grew up near Bellingham and I've climbed some of the smaller peaks near Baker, but I've always wanted to climb Ranier. It's just such a beautiful mountain
