Hidden Tarns Below Chair Peak - Washington State
Chair Peak towers over the popular Snow Lake near Snoqualmie Pass but exists in its own world of rock and ice. Hidden below its northern face are massive, glacier-polished rock slab channels strewn with boulders. Melting ice and snow fill tarns in this surreal, tundra-like landscape. There are no trails in this backcountry paradise, and only a few technical climber-scrambler routes exist. Overall, the views and solitude this destination offers make the effort of getting there worthwhile.

Stirrup Lake - Washington State
zhlédnutí 238Před 14 dny
There are few alpine lakes in the central Cascade Mountains that offer both easy access and are not overcrowded. Stirrup Lake is one of these rare oases. Nestled in a saddle between Meadow Mountain and Big Muffin, it offers a tranquil escape where you can enjoy the peaceful rhythms of nature. The forest service road to the trailhead is rough, and a high-clearance vehicle is recommended, but the...
Circle Lake - Washington State
zhlédnutí 494Před 21 dnem
Circle Lake is a dramatic, cirque glacier-carved gem within the rugged Alpine Lakes Wilderness of central Washington State. Its crystal-clear water, bounded by massive rock walls towering high above, is stunning. We started our journey at the Cathedral Pass trailhead and then hiked to Peggy’s Pond. From there, the maintained trail ends and a scrambler's route begins, winding its way through sun...
Roaring Ridge - Washington State
zhlédnutí 381Před měsícem
Roaring Ridge is a seldom visited destination just south of Snoqualmie Pass. The ridge has several summits, and can be approached from either the east or west. However there is no trail and only a very faint scramblers route to follow when you reach the ridgeline. In this video we start our hike on the Twin Lakes Trail and continue on to the saddle just north of the Pacific Crest Trail. From th...
Thornton Lakes - Washington State
zhlédnutí 434Před měsícem
Hiking to Thornton Lakes offers a memorable adventure through some of Washington's most picturesque landscapes. The lakes are known for their stunning crystal-clear turquoise waters, surrounded by massive, towering cliffs. There is a maintained trail to the outflow of lower Thornton Lake, but from there on it is basically a scramble to the upper lakes. In this video, we take the maintained trai...
Tin Cup Joe Falls in Summer - Washington State
zhlédnutí 328Před měsícem
Tin Cup Joe Falls is a seldom-visited gem nestled deep within a side canyon of the Snoqualmie River. It offers a serene and picturesque escape for adventurous hikers. The journey to the falls is an exhilarating scramble, requiring navigation over, under, and around huge fallen logs, and the traversal of a fast-flowing creek to reach the upper falls. This challenging route rewards your efforts w...

Sherman Peak is a sub-peak of Mount Baker in Washington State. Squak Glacier is situated on its southern slope, with Crag View looming above the base of Squak Glacier. Bills Peak is a seldom-visited 6,917-foot summit located on the border of Kittitas County and Chelan County in Washington state. Snoqualmie Mountain in Summer - Washington State
zhlédnutí 479Před měsícem
The Snoqualmie Mountain hike in the Central Cascades is a challenging adventure with significant elevation gain and rugged terrain. The trail starts steeply through dense forest, with rocks and roots making the path slippery. Hikers will also encounter beautiful waterfalls along a crystal-clear creek. Higher up, the forest thins, revealing glimpses of surrounding peaks and valleys. On a clear d...
Crater Lake - Washington State
zhlédnutí 786Před 2 měsíci
Crater Lake in the central Cascade Mountains of Washington State is a charming but seldom-visited destination. There is no maintained trail to the lake, and the route was originally constructed by miners and fishermen. Although the lake is just over a mile from the trailhead, route-finding and bushwhacking skills are needed. It is advisable not to wear your best clothing, as it may get torn and...

The historic Green Mountain Lookout is one of Washington's all-time finest hikes. From dense woods to wide-open meadows to panoramic views, it just doesn't get much better than this. The lookout was built in 1933 and used for many years as a fire lookout. In 1987, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Once on top, the views are world-class. Frenchman Coulee is located in central Washington, near the small town of Vantage. It lies within the Columbia River Basalt Group region, formed by successive massive lava flows. Bam. They hacked through the brush cleared path so this trail is currently very good. Once you jump the ridge the view is spectacular. Ran out of water with dogs so didn't go to the top. 90s days few weeks ago. BUT once you jump the ridge its like someone turned on AC. Way cooler. Breeze. I am from Sierra, so I'm not used to these baking hot deals here in August lower elevations. Flys eat your legs. One million switchbacks I never want to hear about the Whitney 96 again. These dudes are obviously serious about their videos. Have hit a bunch. New here 2 years but it's about Glacier Peak Wilderness. Esmeralda Basin. Enchantments. I don't go in permitted area. But if your tough you can go up peaks from Ingalls Creek side or over Longs Pass.

Another beautiful piece of art. The dog truly had to be included. All the while I was trying to figure out how the lake was created. I finally came up that it was a volcanic crater expanded as a glacier cirque. What was the dog’s name?

As to the local geology, a topographic map clearly shows that Circle Lake is one of several cirque lakes on the slopes of Mt. Daniel, which is the "plug" of the former Mt. Daniel stratovolcano. Whatever crater existed has long since been eroded away. What remains now is a group of lava flow layers and associated volcanic rocks, sculpted by alpine glaciers. In this regard, the Mt. Daniel-Mt. Hinman area is quite similar to the Goat Rocks area further to the south.
