It is important to clean the glass and windshields on your car regularly in order to maintain maximum visibility. It only takes one track day, or highway cruise, to notice how quickly the windshield becomes impaired. This week on DRIVE CLEAN, we demonstrate how to clean automotive glass using proper tools and techniques. In addition, for those heavily weathered windshields, we also point out the benefits of glass polish.

Thank you so much everyone. I'm really grateful for your comments. I hope I can help with these vids. Fun to make!
Can i use claybar instead of the blade.
@@danial8040 clay bar is his step two. One is the razor because it’s like a first go for the heavy stuff
Very informative! Some people fail to realize there's a difference between CLEANING a a car and DETAILING it. Larry is giving away free detailing tips to car enthusiasts like myself and I appreciate it very much, Keep up the good work!!
I always say cleaning even though you know....
Thx everyone. Have a fun holiday weekend!
Would it make sense to use a rotary polisher on the inside of car windows too?
Calling this overkill? There is a reason why Larry is paid to work on million dollar cars...Taking time to do a good job seems to be a lost art.
Yeah; he's Larry Kosilla, a _professional who works on million dollar cars._ If you want professional grade quality, come here. Otherwise, there are other channels with people who don't work on one of a kind cars that can't be replaced. Granted that he doesn't claim to be perfect and you may find a few things you disagree with here and there but at the same time, be careful of just what you criticize.
Glen Johnson I agree. Although o don’t ha e a fancy car, I really love taking care of it properly:)
Well I would do this all day without complaining. I am as OCD as he is. My car is so clean and I make people believe it’s important too.
Glen Johnson I like seeing the work he puts in
Working at various dealerships as a detailer and now a body man, the most frustrating thing is being rushed through every job and being forced to do a mediocre job. The push for volume over quality frustrates me to no end, and it's impossible to find someone who doesn't play that game.
Dude you absolutely feed my OCD. I think you are the most easy to learn from anyone on CZcams..
I agree!
Agreed
I just discovered this channel. Nice video. My son is a new driver and I recently went through this process on a 14 year old car (his first) as he was complaining he couldn't see. 14 years of water spots, finite scratches, and wiper wear gone, plus getting rid of all the haze on the inside has made a night/day difference. It was a full day spent on all the windows but well worth the hard work.
This is how it is done right. Craftsmanship and dedication to your craft benefits us all.
I love the idea of taking great detail into something so simple like this!
Sheesh, I can't believe I watched this. I fast forwarded it a few times (To get to the good part? LOL) but I just couldn't tear my eyes away.
I was just thinking the same thing. I can't get enough of watching this guy detail cars. Makes me want to step my game up for my own ride.
This is easily my favorite show on Drive, and probably on CZcams. High production value and it's completely relevant to everyone. Exotic sports cars are cool to look at, but I'll probably never own one. Everyone who owns a car needs to clean it. Thanks.
Great video Larry... What a genuine art-form that is! Porsche looks terrific... Keep the great videos coming, I feel they are (by far) the best video series on the internet!
I got one of those inside window cleaning tools for xmas last year. Love it!
Great job Larry. Loving this series. Keep it up! Thanks for the tips!
I've been waiting for the glass video since the first episode of drive clean. Thanks guys, Larry's awesome.
I think I'm modeling how to get my car to show quality after your tips. This is beyond eye opening. Thank you so much.
Awesome video , I wish you had more shows a week I love them all !
Another great video. Properly cleaning glass is very technical due to keeping the contaminants from other parts of the car out of the cleaning process. Larry basically explained every detail of how to make this happen. I'm not huge on extensive detailing but I always know if I need to know the perfect way how to do something these videos are out there and explain everything in a well produced detail. Awesome job Larry.
Another great video Larry. Thanks for putting in the hard work on these
Thanks again for a beautifully executed car-guy video! I hope you keep doing this for a good long time!
You're an amazing teacher. Please continue making instructional videos.
Amazing segment, I enjoy these very much.
I like listening to this guy explain stuff. He's a good host.
Please more DRIVE CLEAN episodes. I asolutely love em. You can just make videos on how you clean any car as long as you want. I will watch them.
Lots of practical, helpful technique tips and tricks. Thanks so much! Car glass is a safety issue, for sure.
Great video Larry I was waiting for this glass cleaning video.
I was just looking to buy that particular glass polish for my business. It seems to be one of the best out there. Thanks for sharing!
Very informative I will be following this again this weekend. And you should put together a glass restoration kit with ( glass polish/ polishing pads sealant, cleaner and the different types of micro fiber towels needed ) to sell on you website like your paint regimen kit
Awesome video! I was considering replacing the glass in my 370z at some point due to small imperfections... but instead I'll should be able to polish the glass to perfection with these tips. You made my day man. Thanks!
Thanks again Larry! Some great tips in there. Im super particular about glass/windshields myself at work. Nothing like mistaking bug splatter for another aircraft. Now I can be the same way with my cars
Thanks for the excellent presentation. Hats off.
Great video Larry, thanks for all the advice.
Just used most of these techniques on my car windshield, side windows, and moon roof glass. Took me 2 hours! Unfortunately my glass polish and polishing pads haven't come in yet, so I just used Meguiar's DACP and a Lake Country yellow foam cutting pad on a PC random orbital. Going on a road trip tomorrow so I wanted to go ahead and get it done. I'll probably go back and do it again later when the glass pads and polish come in. But the glass already feels amazing!
I'm going to be late for college, but I love Larry's videos. ;___;
To clean the inside of the glass we're going to do some prep work to ensure a a great streakfree result.One.Remove the steering wheel. It's just in the way so get rid of it.Two.Remove the driver and passenger front seats. Being able to crouch inside the car gives you leverage you wouldn't otherwise have.Three.Unhook and drop the dashboard so you can really get at the corners.Cleaning your windshield is easy and fun if you have the right tools and the best part is that it can be done in weekends
I love this series man
You really present well. (As always) Well done and I learned a few more new tricks thanks to you.
Larrys AMMO Products are the best Ive ever used!!!
Keep the /Drive Clean episodes coming Larry!
Very, Very good, keep the good work man!!! thank you for all the tips, not only for glass.
Great advise Larry. Awesome video.
Another great job, leaning so much from this channel, I actually think my phone screen got cleaner as the video whet on 😂😂😂 great tips as usual.
love all your videos. DRIVE is by far my favorite channel on youtube. you guys are all in NY????
That was some nice info ..That razor can help you a lot! THANKS DRIVE .
Very nice, please keep up the good work guys
Bradley, yep, I was holding off on this step with my DA Polisher with Griots Garage glass polish and get everything removed from the surface as possible.
spent much of my life cleaning windows..not so much car glass..but similar..I wouldn't "drag" a razor blade backwards on the window..yes forward..with its sharp side..but don't drag backwards..you can pick up a little hard piece of something and "scratch the glass with it as you drag the razor backwards...instead lift the razor off the glass in the back stroke
Have to agree i seen many burrs on a razor scratch a glass. Always go down never back up. But i am the same can't stand any marks what ever they are on a glass.
0000 wire wool does the same job, and safely.
I love these videos......I take care of 4 family cars, while I will never attain the level of perfection that Larry does (I just don't have the time).....I do get each car as perfect as possible at least twice a year.
I really enjoy learning new techniques.....even if it's something as simple as clean glass :-)
did I just watch a 16 minute video on cleaning windows? Damn right I did, and I loved every second of it. I'm headed to the garage to clean my windshields right now.
I have honestly been waiting for this video. I have clay barred my windshield, but never polished it! Now it's on my to do list. Stupid OCD...
learned so much from your videos very informative.more power
You are so right, I don't understand a thing from that guy Larry with his polish machines but the Americans love this, unbelievable, what kind of people are they???
This video really knocked my socks off. Can't wait to try this on my car!
Thank you for the tips!
I have an OCD on clean windows and this guy just made more sense when Im cleaning mine. However, I did know about using the clay bar outside of the mirror and adding wax or polish.
This a great episode..I am ocd about glass also....I do have the most problems with the inside of the windshield..great tips..thank you for your time and effort.
Thanks to Drive Clean I now won't be wasting anymore time at work (I detail cars at a dealership) chasing the haze haha thanks man!
Thanx Mr. Larry ... for the "How To" primer of thoroughly cleaning/polishing a windshield. The windshields in our 993 (911) cars is a ...100 percent cluster F!!!... to replace. A good glass-clean-detail effort goes a long way to minimize the distortion brought on by old age pitting in the 993's windshield. Thanxs again..
clean and fresh glass. ohhh that sounds so good.
Truly deep clean that glass! Nice
love your WORK!
Ever use CeriGlass to get rid of wiper marks or minor scuffs? Any tips or tricks if so please? Love your videos, thanks so much for making them!
The intro is so soothing.
Your videos are well planned and very professional. Thanks for your insights. I am concerned about the glass in my Jaguar. They use a very soft glass made by Pilkington. Even before the Triple XXX glass was notorious because it would pit and scratch easily. I wanted to know if your methods are safe on the newer glass (S-type) and older glass ( E-types). I will check back to see if you update. Thanks again Robert Phelps
Amazing you were still able to understand the intent of his comment. Congratulations on your super smarts brother. Thanks for helping me understand. I honestly thought it was a question. My brain was going crazy trying to figure out what he meant by that.
another great video! Thank you. I follow your suggestions and I like them a lot, they make sense when gas is flowing through your veins. Again, I asked you before: where do I get the black gloves you use?
I do everything you did except I lubricate windshield and use plastic card instead of the razor. Keep up the awesone vids!
excellent video, you are the man
Love the DRIVE CLEAN series. Don't forget to also sub AMMONYC. keep the videos coming Larry!
I really hope this intro song of yours Larry decides to surface somewhere to download. Thank you for all that you share with us :)
After cleaning the tops of the windows, it can help a lot to also give a quick wipe to the seal which the window edge seats into. So many times I've rolled up a clean window, only for it to roll down with fresh crud from a dirty window seal.
Your videos are great!! I’m currently chasing some sort of thin “film” on the outside of my new Explorer windows and backed with 5% tint - the mystery film on all my windows really shows! Vehicle is new so I’m not sure what was applied/sprayed on it in its short life but it’s a total pain! I use the foam spray a Safelite autoglass guy gave me (which I learned is like stoners invisible glass?)
these videos are very therapeutic
so satisfying to watch
For all of these years I have sprayed the inside of the glass, never thought to spray the cloth :D top tip, thanks.
hey larry, i used a glass cutting pad and polish on my cars exterior window because there was scratches, almost like key marks but i dont think thats it. maybe like a stick rubbed the window really good. anyway, i used this pad by i believe lake country (5.5 inch) and glass polish on my passenger window to remove fine scratches. spread the polish and went to 6000 rpm on a porter cable polisher. it made it much worse, as if theres swirl marks all over the wonder. i cant recall if its because there wasnt lubrication, cause i dont remember if i sprayed it with water or not, or even a quick detailer or something. you think i can get those out with something? the glass pad and polish didnt work well at all for me, i was very dissapointed as i thought it would do well, but i was just begining detailing so it could very well be improper use, since then i havent attempted it again. also, a little trick i saw somewhere and dont know if you would use it or no, but when cleaning glass with a spray cleaner, wipe the exterior glass vertically, and interior horizontally (or vice versa) to see streaks and if theyre inside or outside easier. just my personal method i learned somewhere but forget where
At 14:40 how many exact squirts? You said 2-3 when you were inside the cabin, so how many on the left doors window? Thank you my friend.
Why can't I like these videos more than once.
I love these videos.
I have a set of 20, and following his instructions when I clean my car, I go through them all!
Awesome video!
A much easier way of Cleaning, Polishing & Sealing of Windshield glass IMHO is to use Proklear Nano Sealant kit which comes with a Glass Polish / Scratch remover, Nano Glass Sealant and an Antifog spray bundled free. I used it without any tools and result was very good.
Rowan
I like your videos they are great.
My 2013 BMW M3 has some fine scratches on the windshield driver side. Is there a safe way to polish the glass?
What are the best products to use and where to get them?
Thanks
Martin
you talk about high pile, medium pile and low/short pile microfibre cloths..... i cant seem to get specific ones which are those three types? where did you get them from please?
THE OCD SHOW! Larry you are the guy!
Any tips for removing thin oil film from the inside of the glass? I switched from smoking to vaping and even though it’s a small device over time it coats my glass. I feel it just smears anytime I try to wipe it clean.
What do you think about using wax on windscreens? I switched from RainX and have been seeing a better result.
He's nevertheless the best at what he does and I can't help watching.
Great video!
Very interesting video, thank you !
I've found that my favorite results come from letting RainX dry onto the windshield, and then dry wiping it into the glass once it dries, and then cleaning the residue off with Stoner Invisible Glass and any clean microfiber towel.
I like your videos. You are a serious detailer and it shows in your technique and work.
I remember cleaning the meat and deli cases when I was just a high school kid working for a local grocer. I was given terry cloth hand towels, some paper towels and foaming cleaning agent. The towels left so much lint, I spent as much time wiping that off as I did the fish oil and fingerprints.
A bit later someone got me using newspaper and vinegar and I have found nothing better. Leaves almost no lint and you don't smell anything after a few minutes. If you have glass cleaner, please use it, but I stopped buying it. Rather spend the money on quality tools. I also only use plastic razor blades so I have no chance of damaging the glass, but they only last a single use.
Lastly, I would also leave any polishing of laminated services to a professional like yourself, the risk of DIY damage from concentrated heat is more than negligible IMO.
Thanks for the video!
Another great video! But be careful if your car is equipped with heated seats.
Leaning down on the seat and shifting your whole weight on your knee can break the cables of the heating.
(Not on every car of course, but I heard of some cases)
Keep up the good work Larry!
Love this show
Larry,
I see you spray Stoner after Rain-X dries up. Doesn't the cleaner pull the dried stuff out of the glass and by that I mean the microscopic fillers? I'm looking at it as if using IPA to remove sealant/wax haze but in the process you also remove the protecting film. Any insight on this?
now we can put it in the museum
wow love your vids!
Larry, is there any hope for a windshield that has been scratched by worn out wiper blades? Will this clean, clay, polish, protect method have much effect on heavily scratched windshields? Great video, your meticulous detail is what makes these episodes so helpful. Thanks
QUESTION : can wiper blade scratches be polished out of the windshield glass ? BTW always very informative , love watching the videos, thanks for taking your time and explaining everything.
Thank you so much Larry!
