    This whole tone is in the fingers argument is interesting. As a drummer, I knew early on that every drummer when hitting a cymbal would have different transients from the attack of the drumstick as well as teasing out different overtones based on how and where they struck the cymbal. But with guitar, you have to hit the fundamental tone when you fret the string, too loose and too tight and you’re out of tune. So it seems like the only place you can tease out different harmonics is at the picking end - what picks you use, how hard or delicate you strike the string to generate transients and where along the string you pick to tease out the different harmonics - or should I say the different timber of harmonics. As harmonics don’t change just the relative levels between them, ie timber. So when they say tone is in the fingers- I think it’s just the picking hand that makes you sound different

    • @simonvanderheijden432
      @simonvanderheijden432 Pƙed rokem

      You can play to tight with your left hand, still be in tune, and choke the note a little bit. And here are tons of other things going on with the left hand (Like vibrato, the positioning of the fingers relative to the fretboard) that make a big difference. It's really in both hands, not just the picking hand.

  • @Nghilifa
    @Nghilifa Pƙed 4 lety +9

    This one could be a lot better, but I guess time was a constraint? That being said, itÂŽs not really that complicated. His sound is basically just a Les Paul through a Marshall Jubilee with a boost in front of it for solos (although he used Boss Ge-7 Graphic EQÂŽs in the Effects Loop during the GNR days for solos) and a wah. ThatÂŽs the basic sound. I guess thereÂŽs a little bit of delay for leads (The DD500s) , the octave/fuzz pedal is just for specific parts and the DD-3 is used for slither (intro and in the quiet part just before the solo) and thatÂŽs pretty much it. It can be replicated "fairly" cheaply .

    • @theoriginalheartstrummer

      @@Nghilifa Sorry I know this comment is ayear old but very interesting to see that he switched to the MXR 10 band. I wonder if thats a result of endorsement or if he finds it better? I know for a fact he is using it to shape his tone. The guy delivering the info seems like a bit of a numbskull and just blurted out that its also for tone shaping. Interestingly for a very long time it was always said that he used it 'for just killing off the high end from his wireless' but I suspect he was using it to do more than that for sure. I havea GE-7 on my channel and its good but im getting the MXR 10 band as I want to see what a slash signature guitar with jubilee emulating the eq settings will do!

      @@LeadersandLunatics No problem! I heard the same thing (about tone shaping due to hiss created by the wireless) , but I now suspect the same as you do. I feel like I’m the only guitarist that doesn’t care much for Les Pauls.
    I appreciate them. Love the tone certain people have gotten from them, obviously.
    I just don’t dig playing them, myself:

    Guitar effects snobs often bash on the Boss DD-500! I personally use one and it’s GREAT! You just need to learn how to programme it! and create decent patches :) it’s not that difficult

    Next time show guitars Sweetwater! 99% of us can't afford them, but 99% of us could care less about some BOSS pedals too.

    Why is the name Boss Noise Supressor sealed? Slash doesn't have a contract to advertise this pedal? 5:53

    It would have been nice if the camera caught the pedals from the top to see certain settings..just saying.

    Someone should edit it this video and make it speed up every time the tech pulls his shirt down even though it hasn’t moved...

    8:09 ...What Sweetwater - and all the utubers they sponsor - *DON'T* want you to know.
    (Not to mention Marshall, Gibson, MXR...)

    If slash only has one cabinet on stage for feedback and only on during those moments, why are there 3 full stacks? And if it’s only for show, might as well put some heads on top to finish off the look, instead of looking all decapitated

    •  Pƙed 4 lety +1

      He and Ace have kinda been taking turns for a while with Slash now. He's been touring almost for entire years with very short stops for recording his solo albums. I guess that takes a toll on a tech after a while.
