you are absolutely right. lost my 13yr old yellow lab 7months ago. not a day goes by where I don't shed tears. he had a great life. we lived on a lake and I brought him to work with me every day and on every vacation.

my good wife has always wanted one and when she stopped work a 6 week old black lab puppy arrived !! She is now 7 months old and we are very pleased, we are fortunate to live on the west coast of Scotland with hill and woodlands walks from our back door. Long walks and river swims are her favourite and we are kept fit and active with her...I really recommend this breed and its wonderful nature but you do have to be able to handle the level of exercise

I've come into this page with doubt. My favourite dog will always be a rottweiler, but I like a Dobberman, pitbull, American bulldog and this labrador. I thankfully only look into their behaviours, (don't got my life ready yet), what they need and so on. But when the time's right, I really hope to find my best friend!

Labs are one of the sweetest and nicest dogs ive ever met i have 1, hes very strong his name is Bruno! there is a video on youtube of a chocalte lab doing protection work on youtube so i beleive labs can be guard dogs if trained properly but it could be alot to do with the bloodline too, but i think no matter what any dog will protect you from danger in their own way.

I've had two yellow English labs. Both passed a little over 10 years old from health issues. First one was from a breeder, second one was 6 month old rescue. I finally got another one, a black American Labrador. He just turned 7 months old. More challenging to train than an English, so please be sure you are ready if you're considering an American Labrador. Fair winds and following seas to all.

Any dog can bite. I have had Labradors since I was a child (34 now) and can say the description of the "soft mouth" is fairly accurate in a well trained and socialized Labrador.

Rocky is our 100 lb yellow lab. He's very protective and will eat every chance he gets. If he doesn't get enough to eat he pulls empty dog food cans out the trash and chews them up! Wouldn't trade him for the world.

Must of had some sort of scary water-related incident when it was younger. My Uncle's lab hated water, later to find out that the breeder almost let it drown as a puppy

We called our guy by many names during his lifetime.
His aboriginal name was " the stomach that walks".
He's been gone since early March this year. I keep watching puppy videos.

You can add the Fox Red to those colors recognized by the AKC. The Silver never made it.
AKC recognizes three colors: Yellow, Chocolate, and Black, and all variations, ie. White, Red, etc, will be one of the three for AKC registration.

Labs are very good dogs I have a yellow lab and they are great with everyone, they love swimming. There is one thing that's bad it's that they shed A LOT and if they look fat to you they may not be its just that labs are muscular dogs and to some people that looks like fat

I have had 3 labs and all of them have gotten cancer @ 8 years old and shortly after find out that they have cancer have died, with lymphoma cancer. I want to know why that is.
I had a lab but he died when he was 6 because he ate a toy and something popped after surgery and we had to put him down cause he was in so much pain and he died right in front of me 💔💔😭😭

Our family is planing on getting a lab im 13 i have 2 brothers who are 4 and 5 my mom and dad and my sister whose 11 so a lab would be perfect were gonna get it as a puppy were moving into a 1220 sq foot apartment is the lab fine in this a 1220 square foot apartment? And the apartment neighborhood has alot of yard space at least 20 acers and has a wapking path and a pool

Labs are usually good in every environment. Make sure you choose a puppy carefully and a breeder carefully. They are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia and cancer. So do you're research and choose a reputable breeder who clears all his/her dogs for dysplasia and other problems seen in the breed. But back to your question, as long as you give them an hour walk daily or even better, twice a day, and other outside activities, your lab should be happy and healthy:)
i live in a small home and my lab likes it just fine, just make sure he or she gets plenty of exercise.

It's probably because the hose spits out a lot of water at once and is powerful. But a pool is soothing and isn't spraying water into your dogs face. That's probably the reason
swaggy swiss Yes. I had a chocolate lab who hated rain (wouldn't go outside if it was raining--and going outside is something he loved) and hated taking a bath. But I couldn't keep him out of the filthiest mud puddle in town and he loved swimming.

Labs are moderately "protective"? Haven't heard of one behaving like a guard dog.
Moderately protective = These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. A dog described as "very protective" would be a guard dog.

Labs are very trainable, you can teach them many different behaviors! It's just about the right method (and your diligence). Training should NOT be neglected. labs are not guard dogs theyre watchdogs! they will bark and let you know that there is an intruder but will never attack it unless the intruder doesnt hurt the dog or the members of its family/pack.. labs are very sweet dogs and is a perfect example of all bark no bite

you need a different breed for that, sorry to tell you. Labs are just really friendly and don't realize danger if it looked them in the eye.

Well I used to have a lab that was VERY protective, which is not usually found in the breed. But it's definitely not impossible for a lab to be protective.

Every dog will protect you to some degree. They may not breed for that but love is love. Instinct is instinct.

i know this was a year ago but never get a puppy that is only a month. even two months is a bit young. that early the dogs are nowhere near mature enough to leave their mum and it could cause issues later in life.

Labs are not for couch potatoes. They need lots of physical (and mental) activity.
So why are certain dog breeds known to have certain distinct personality traits to the point where you can say, "Expect a gentle heart", yet this isn't the case with humans? If we ever said that one race was more playful than another, or had on average a gentle heart, we'd get called racist. But why? Surely people also have general traits based on "breeding". ?
Because people are not actually selected and bred systematically through the ages? I mean we don't even control the hair colour, not talking about other traits.
A trait is what they are genetically disposed to regardless of training. The level of training they can achieve is their potential.

Oh for god's sake there is no best or worst breed. Maybe in your opinion there are better breeds but don't tell people there are better breeds, it's their opinion, not yours.
