- I wish I could say that Mormonism was a genuine branch of Christianity. Sadly, it is not. And to affirm that it is would be cruel to people and disrespectful to God.

Was a Mormon 20 years, an athiest 10, now I've been a Christian for 4. Took a TON of unlearning the false doctrines of the Mormon church. Researching the Bible and historical, archeological, and manuscript evidence gave me something nothing from the Mormon church could, truth.

That's incredible. Welcome to Christ's church, brother! I can see why you would turn to atheism after leaving LDS. You feel like everyone's lying. But there's still a truth and life in the Bible that you were missing. Glad you found it.
God bless. I knew a number who left Mormonism, became atheists and remained atheists. It seems that the hurdle of having felt and been lied to about the "truth" of Mormonism was too much for some, and so they decide that it's just all lies. Which is really a shame.
@@fashakinbanke3671One simple answer. Paul said even if an angel of God come down and teach you another Gospel do not trust. In the case lf mormon and islam it is the same thing. An "angel" came and turned them against Biblical Gospel and taught them that Jesus is not God.

It's like believing when your car breaks down Han Solo is going to give you a ride to work in the Millennium Falcon... all you have to do is live a perfect life and he'll come pick you up, because he is "H. Ford" and "H. Ford" created the automobile, so he has the means to get you where you're trying to go even though you know it sounds crazy.
Just because the name kinda matches doesn't make them the same person. You can call Harrison Ford "H. Ford", but that doesn't make him the real Henry Ford. LDS's Jesus (the first born of Elohim and Heavenly Mother, sibling of Lucifer), and Jesus the only begotten son of God can not be one in the same.
Secondly, even if it was the same guy, the beliefs are still wrong... Henry Ford didn't create the automobile anyways. Just like Elohim had a god before him, he is not the ETERNAL GOD of the Bible. Like Joseph Smith, He just came along later and said y'all are making cars wrong and changed the methods.
Plus, you'll never be good enough to earn a ride on his spaceship. It's such a distorted way of thinking. And even if you were perfect, there's not really a Hans Solo or a spaceship. Just like the LDS Jesus, Elohim, and Heavenly Mother... it's just a made up story. A perversion of the truth.
If you want to really get where you're trying to go (Eternal Life / Heaven), you have to put your faith in the real Jesus of the Bible and Him alone.
I know what it teaches. It teaches you can be your own god, so you need to have as many kids as you can to populate your own planet! , and a lot of wives help, that black people carry the mark of Cain. My own babysitter told me this! I guess it’s not all bad, as long as you conform, kindof like, oh 19 kids and counting, if you don’t mind having a kid every possible time you can, speaking of her, she couldn’t possibly have had all those kids if she breastfed🤔and if you don’t mind being micromanaged until you are in charge of your own tribe. Well, if you’re a man. If you’re a woman, breed, as many as possible! Your husband has a planet waiting for him! And you, his other wives, and all your offspring! 👍 Period. Jesus has nothing to do with it, I was VERY surprised to see images of him in a recent documentary. He was not in one Mormon house I ever saw and when I was I kid there were at least 10 families within 3 blocks. I never saw one image of Jesus.

Why would the word never pass away and endure forever if it was just figurative language meant as poetry and prose if it had no real value?
That's a ridiculous leap in logic. Figurative language is all over the Bible. The Book of Revelation, Ezekiel, the Parables of Jesus. The Bible is still true.

Pew polls had it at around 25% for Protestants and 15% of Catholics and that was back in 2000 if I recall.
I'm not sure that I'd agree that most haven't read the Bible (also an ex-Mormon). But I think it's more the WAY most have read the Bible - according to a set reading plan, with certain scriptures emphasized, others glossed over, and all explained through a certain lens. (For example, have you noticed how quickly the reading plans zip through the Epistles?) It's hard to then read the Bible just as the Bible, without that LDS lens. Takes some work.

Spot on. I was raised in Brigham city Utah and one of the very few who was not raised Mormon. My entire extended family is LDS. I was saved 4 years ago, Praise God! Without going into all the specifics, I would love to just ask for prayer for my family! My great grandmother is 97 years old and has been lds her entire life. She’s the coolest lady with quite the legacy. I want to see her in heaven some day so badly. Christian’s, will you pray for her salvation? Thank you in advance! God is so good! 🤍
Dear Father God, I pray Ali’s grandma trusts your Son Jesus for who He really is and what He accomplished on the cross for her before her last breath. Give Ali the opportunities and boldness to share the true gospel and the true Jesus with her and that grandma’s spiritual eyes would be opened. I pray grandma would love the truth and be saved! They are about as Christian as Muslims are Christian. They both believe in Jesus, but not the Biblical Jesus.
Mormons believe that, unless you believe Joseph Smith was the Prophet of God, you cannot put your faith in Jesus Christ to be saved. Mormonism is just like Islam, but Islam uses Muhammad, and the Quran is nothing like the Mormon Bible, and Islam has a longer track record, but, fundamentally, they are similar

Technically, it is a misrepresentation of concepts.
Satan means "adversary" in Hebrew. By becoming Satan, Lucifer forsake any childship from The Father and thus any brotherhood with us or Jesus.
Meanwhile, this is being used to messily cover up a very basic concept that Jesus told Mary in the garden of the tomb He was buried in, that Jesus is OUR brother, too. That you have the potential to become like the Father as Jesus told us to be in The Beattitudes (Matthew 5:48).

I am an ex-Mormon. I was raised in Mormonism. To understand why Mormonism is a cult is to understand their definitions of who God, Jesus, Holy Spirit and Bible are. You cannot ask if they believe in all these things bc they do, but their definition of ea is not Biblical. Jesus is God and the only way.

Bless you. Mormons are some of the sweetest people, and they take care of each other the way Christians should. They just have the essential doctrines wrong. I hope we can lead them all to the truth of the Gospel.

When you have been faced with a choice to follow the real Jesus and it costs you everything and everyone you love, and you see people on CZcams attempting to convey to us that Mormons believe in the same atonement but from a "historical" Jesus ( this is obviously not you sir) my heart is just so grieved. I was a convert to the LDS church, and it is NOT the Biblical Jesus Christ they teach. The core doctrines Joseph Smith and Brigham Young taught and lived were not Biblical Christianity. Good works, yes. Loving your neighbor, yes. But the Jesus, though portrayed as the Jesus FROM the Bible, is not the Jesus OF the Bible. I joined the church deceived by those good works. I was looking for a for a church that had strong morals and community life. Because I did not know my Bible, I believed they were Christians. It was not until I went to the Temple that my eyes were opened to my being decieved into a false gospel. That decision led me to have to either follow the true God or not. Mormonisn is gnostic. It is pagan. It is dangerous spiritually. You can pretend that it is Christianity. Dress it up with all the attributes. But in the end, you will be knocking on the door crying. "Lord, Lord," and Jesus will say "Depart from me, I never knew you." The fact is sobering. God is holy! He is not an exalted man! Compromise is unacceptable in this core truth of true Christianity. I know there are many in the LDS church who have been born again and stay because of the cost of leaving. That is between them and God. I respect their right to choose. I simply wanted to share the truth of who they claim as the true Jesus, the true God, the true church as being a lie. It is not. Read the Bible, the New Testament. You will find the truth is a person. God in the flesh, who came to set us free. ❤ John 1:1-3

@tesartoga7276 I mean ransom in the sense that your membership status and standing is more important than your personal relationship with Jesus/God himself. Your salvation/exaltation is completely dependent on your membership status within the organization. A woman must have a male priesthood holder to accompany them into the highest level of the Celestial Kingdom. In John 14:6, Jesus says that “no man cometh unto the Father except, but by me”. We don't need the priesthood, our husbands, or leaders to intercede for us. We can go straight to Jesus whether it’s in prayer or when we die. There should be NO ONE coming between us and Jesus. Christianity is still a religion, but it’s the only religion that is not only true but where you can have a relationship with the true living God. Many verses in the NT call Christianity a religion. that term is nothing to be scared of

Another ex Mormon here. Born and raised in the church. Left when I was 18. Was agnostic and searching for something until I was born again at age 43. It's been almost 7 years and I'm still learning about the true Jesus. My mom and some extended family are still Mormons. It's hard to share the truth with them and pull them away, but I guess God will work with them in His time like He worked with me.

Pastor Mike...a million thank you's for this video! Your explanation is so clear! It's the best I've seen yet! I'm a former devout Mormon myself who came out of Mormonism 10 years ago (I'm 58 years old now) and entered into a true relationship with Jesus Christ, albeit with a short stint as an atheist before coming to know who Jesus really was and getting saved! I'm so grateful that God drew me to Him and pulled me out of Mormonism. I'm single and don't have a family of my own, but my heart aches for my extended family members (parents, siblings, and in-laws) who are all so completely trapped in the Mormon faith and think that they are the only true Christians on the planet. If I try to bring up true Christian teachings from the Bible, they are all too happy to shoot me down and put me my place for having left Mormonism and gone astray. I'm constantly walking on egg shells trying to figure out how to witness the truth to them without completely destroying our family relationship. I hope and pray that one day I can show them this video without them being completely offended. I pray every day that God will soften their hearts and help them to see the truth that He has shown me! Is it wrong to encourage people sacrifice to receive blessings promised by God? By your statement it is, but then, you are like the Pharisee and not the widow in this comparison.
Interesting you bring up the Pharisees. Those were the leaders of the Church in Jesus' time, the equivalent of the Protestant Priest of our day. Jesus disagreed with them. By your statement, you are saying that Jesus should be the condemned for going against the mainstream leadership of His day.
Wherein does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints deny the Godhood of the Lord Jesus Christ? The answer is, they never have, and they should never will. That we deny the Trinity (which is not found in The Bible as presented by the Athanasian Creed) is well known, but that is a God that The Bible denies for The Bible speaks of a God with parts and passions, having a face and bowels, having wrath and compassion, all of which the Creed denies.

As a current member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I appreciate your view, and you are correct that there are some pretty important differences between us and other Christian religions. I can say first hand that the Bible is very important to us, especially the new testament because of it's teachings about Christ. I agree that some members do not place enough importance on the Bible because it, as you say, teaches us of the nature of Christ.
I don't think it's bad to disagree as Christians as we are respectful, so thank you for your respectful approach to the topic!

The Jesus Christ of the Bible doesn't teach these abominations. The truth is that the Jesus Christ of the Bible has already sent Joseph Smith to conscious torment in outer darkness/hell.

I had actually clipped this section from your original video because I really liked the explanation, so I'm happy to see it get the official treatment. As someone who was born and raised LDS, and only just recently walked away from it, it's helpful to have something to share with LDS family and friends who don't understand why Christians deny that they belong to the same group. What was your family/ friends’ reaction to the distinction? I have Mormon friends who believe Christian’s and Mormons are one in the same and I don’t put myself in that camp. I’m a Bible believing Christ follower
@@ThePattimelt Honestly, they still struggle to accept it. I think that part of it is that they really do feel like their additional scriptures and teachings of church leaders enhance and clarify their understanding of deity and Jesus' role in things. So like Mike alluded to, they believe that their understanding is the correct one and that as a result, they're the true Christians. In their minds, those who claim that title (Christians) and make it exclusive are part of the church that was lost and it's their beliefs about God and Christ that are incorrect (such as the belief in the Trinity). So videos like this are good, but ultimately the issue is quite broad. I suggest looking at Mike's other videos on Mormonism for more ways to engage your friends. Best of luck!
thank you for posting. I suggest showing them the actual written facts in early mormon literature where joseph smith said all other denominations were abominations. He was very clear. LDS does it's best to hide this now.

No verse describes God as 3 persons 1 being in the Old or New Testament, if God was like that then wouldn't you think it would have been explicitly mentioned? It doesn't say that and no honest reading of the Bible would lead you to conclude that God is 3 persons 1 being and every Biblical scholar of all denominations agrees with that. The Bible claims Jesus Christ is Lord (Romans 10:9, 1 Corinthians 8:6, Philippians 2:11) and the Son of God (Matthew 3:17, Matthew 17:5, John 10:36, John 20:31, Acts 9:20), He is our mediator with God (1 Timothy 2:5), He said that God the Father is greater (John 14:28) and that God was his God (John 20:17), He wanted us to be one with Him and God as they are with each other (John 17:21-23). Paul very clearly tells us that to us there is one God, the Father and one Lord, Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 8:6). No where in the Bible does it describe God and Jesus Christ like how you all do and there is no verse in the bible to back up your pagan belief and to explain it you have to use sources that came centuries later.

I'd encourage you to study the "Divine Council Worldview" as articulated by Dr. Michael Heiser.
I've found it to be very fruitful in ministering to Mormons as it shows how some of their proof texts for key doctrines don't fit with what the authors were communicating in their Ancieny Near East perspective.

I'm an ex-Mormon and destroyed my church records when I was 21. I lived in sin afterward but the Lord saved me 5 years ago. I'm now a reformed Christian. Mormonism principles like works to be saved still creep in sometimes. Being very judgmental as I was raised bleeds out sometimes, too (I know not all LDS wards are like this but it was the LDS ward culture when I was a kid). Thank you, Jesus, for paying the price on the cross and inviting me to Your table of grace, mercy, justice, love, and all that it is about Your amazing character. Even when I definitely do not deserve it. The gospel, which I NEVER heard growing up, is something I must hear every day.
As an LDS member I can affirm that we 100% believe we're saved by grace too. We tend to emphasize works more than others because "faith without works is dead" but we know it's our Savior who redeems us.

If you keep a list of certain rules (like being married in the temple, never drinking coffee, etc.), you can get into the highest tier of Heaven. But you can only get there if you keep all of those specific rules. Otherwise you will be in a lower tier. That sounds like works-based salvation to me. You're still earning your way up. In the Christian belief, there is only one Heaven, and we get there directly through Jesus and what He did for us on the cross. It has nothing to do with anything we did, and we can't earn it by keeping a list of rules. Also, Christianity teaches that there is only one God. "Before me there was no God formed, and there will be none after me." -Isaiah 43:10b, and "But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed." -Galations 1:8. Mormons believe there can be many gods, that we actually all have the potential to become gods, and that an angel came down with another gospel. This is fundamentally different from Christianity and what the Bible itself teaches. God knew that people would try to start their own, shoot-off religions, often through acclaimed revelations. Mohammed said he saw an angel too that told him the Bible was corrupted and he needed to fix the errors. But what did Mohammed do? He wrote himself into the Bible. Joseph Smith did a similar thing, painting himself as a prophet and giving commands that he wanted. For example, he wanted multiple wives even though God says marriage is between one man and one woman. So he came up with a gospel that fit his own preferences. God specifically warns against this because He knew it would happen and many people would be deceived. That's why Christianity and Mormonism are fundamentally different.

As a Latter-day Saint I have to say I'm always a little bugged by the "different Jesus" statement, not only because it's brought up ad nauseum, but because its definitely one and the same Jesus as far as the basic details of his life (born to a virgin mother, crucified etc.). I do however see the point that the theological differences are significant enough that we are talking about something with substantial differences. Perhaps enough to call him different. So in that sense I get the argument. I do think it can be misleading though as it is unquestionably the same historical Jesus even if not fully the same theological Jesus.

1n 1988 I got saved while living in Idaho so I worked and lived among mormons. I worked for 1 guy in particular and drove truck for him.he was a nice guy but 1 day the truck broke down and He asked his wife to give me a lift to town. he lived in the middle of the desert about 40 miles from town. while on our way to that town his wife and I started discussing our beliefs and she go so angry she made me get out of the car still 20 miles from town.Fortunately God had someone come along and give me a ride home.I returned the next day gave him the part and promply quit my job.some mormons are very defensive about what they believe LOL.

Majority of my family is LDS and to know that they were taught this from an early age is frightening. My mother refused to allow myself or my siblings to be baptized so I was not subject to their teaching, but my father and his whole family were very active in the LDS church and to know my loved ones believed all of this is frightening....
There is really nothing frightening about it. We literally don't focus on the weird stuff. I dare say very few Mormons give much thought to these weird obscure things. They are confused about what normal Christianity is though since they don't understand when told they are Christians.

This was my question, and to clarify it- Christians can believe different things and still be saved. Calvinism vs. Arminianism, KJV only vs. other translations, Presbyterian infant baptism vs. believer's baptism, etc. One (or both) of those Christians are wrong, but God's grace still covers them. I'm not diluted enough to think I've got it ALL figured out, which means I'm wrong about some things too. This question was a total Hail Mary (for want of a better, less Catholic term,) because I see my family hanging onto the LDS gospel with a white knuckled grip, and it breaks my heart every single day. It was the question of a desperate woman who sees her entire family going to Hell and feels powerless to stop it. I understand that some beliefs are Christian and others are not, but there's gotta be a line somewhere, and while I attend a solid Baptist church now, I often wish that line included Mormons. I understand why it doesn't. I know they're not Christians, and as far as I know, they're not saved either, and that tears me apart all the more. This was a question asked in a moment of bargaining and does not reflect my theology, just my grief and my love for my family.

Hello Pastor Mike, is there a place where you've spoken about the story of Jesus and the adultress and it apparently being absent in the earliest manuscripts? I only just learnt about this and am looking for resources to understand better.

A Mormon Missionary in another state reached out to me on Facebook and I asked questions and she shared. She shared a works based gospel, I shared what the biblical, true gospel is and she then sent a message further defending her works based gospel (nothing biblically supported), and then said the rest of my message (continued sharing the gospel and asking her a couple follow up questions), was too difficult to answer over message. She asked me if she could refer me to others that could “help” me and meet with me locally. It hurts to think how she is so captive in lies. Not sure how I will respond but praying about this. Please also pray for this young woman.

I was a Mormon for a short time long ago in high school. I had a group of Christian friends in who relentlessly showed me that the Mormon Jesus isn’t the biblical Jesus. They were right! The trinitarian view of God (3 persons 1 being) is not found in the Bible. No verse describes God as 3 persons 1 being in the Old or New Testament, if God was like that then wouldn't you think it would have been explicitly mentioned? It doesn't say that and no honest reading of the Bible would lead you to conclude that God is 3 persons 1 being and every Biblical scholar of all denominations agrees with that. Jesus states the Holy Spirit(Holy ghost, Spirit of Truth, ect) comes directly from the Father just as he himself comes from the Father and is unique from Him. Yet Christ also states he is one with the Father (John 14:6-10).

1. In Matthew 12, Christ states blasphemy against the Spirit is a sin. Blasphemy is a very specific term, pertaining to the willfully and often profane rebellion against God. One cannot blaspheme against the angels, men, or demons. Blasphemy is a sin directly tied to the rejection of God. Jesus is pointing out that the Spirit is a part of God separate and unique, but still one with God (John10:30)

I remember when I was in college getting a call from the LDS. I'm assuming the previous resident of that room must have contacted them at some point in the past and they were reaching out to send resources. When they identified themselves as LDS I said, "I don't know if you realized this but you're calling a Christian college." Their response was basically, "Well we at the Church of Jesus Christ like to think that share much in common with every Christians denomination." Clearly they are trying to blend in. My response was, "Well, you may like to think that, but it isn't true. Either you are not fully aware of the major differences yourself or you are being purposefully deceptive about it. If you could send me the Book of Mormon though I'd appreciate that as a reference." Now I have the BoM next to my book on cults and new age movements.

that makes 4 converts per missionary a year. let's say 1 is active after a year.
the point being, their missionary effort is a complete waste of time and money. if they ran it like a business, and if they didn't have enough money to pour down every rat hole, it would be bankrupt.

One day, when I had not been a Christian for very long, the Mormons came to my door and gave me a Book of Mormon. I decided I would read it to see what it was about. Strangely, I received a warning in my heart to not read the Book of Mormon. Obeying the warning, I put the Book of Mormon into my fireplace and burned it up.
As I became a more mature Christian, I have learned that Mormonism is "another Gospel". I also felt I had dodged a bullet, or a fiery dart. This passage came to mind:
“When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart.” --Matthew 13:19
Fortunately, the Holy Spirit was watching over me. The Mormons had come at a time when the seed of the Gospel had been sown in my heart but I was struggling to understand it. My spiritual experiences in this matter confirms that Mormonism is of Satan.

That's so interesting. I'm a Christian and have been attending my church for just over a year. Yesterday some Mormons came to my door and I decided to hear them out and they gave me a Book of Mormon. I thought 'hey, I could read it. I don't know much about it. It's just non-canon parts of the Bible, right?'.

The scripture you quoted in Matthew isn't applied correctly in your situation. You heard the word of the kingdom and before you really understood it...the wicked one changed your heart to keep you away from it and in spiritual darkness/ambiguity.

And by the way. Christ said if ye love me, keep my commandments. Trying to honor God with our works is a part of repentance. You have to accept Christ as your Savior to be saved by his grace. Clearly, you have to love Christ to accept him. And if we can only love him by striving to keep his commandments... then you should see why Latter Day Saints strive to live good lives. We know that we can't save ourselves through works. But we also know that striving to follow God's commandments is an essential part of accepting Christ as our savior. Faith without works is dead.

How do you reconcile that fact? How can you acknowledge Smith as a true prophet of God and a valid founder of a Christian church, when he taught a very different version of God and a very different means of salvation? No soul is righteous. No person can merit eternal life. Every person is *guilty* and deserving of condemnation, and if a person does not trust solely in Christ's redemptive death on the cross as full satisfaction for his sins, he is lost forever; there will be *no do-overs* in the afterlife.
Don't just regurgitate the doctrines fed to you by the LDS. Stop and actually think about them. Think about *why it was important to you* to write, "We keep the law of Chasity. We don't steal or cheat. We don't drink beer or smoke. We pay tithes and offerings, feed the hungry, cloth the naked, and visit the sick." In other words: 'Oh, look how good we LDS are! We do this, we do that, and our goodness and self-righteousness proves we are justified before God!' Isn't it because your LDS church taught you that you have to *prove your worthiness to God?* But in reality, you have just proven LDS to be making the same error as the "foolish Galatians" who began with faith but then started trusting in works and legalisms to supplement God's grace.
Gal. 2:16 says, "by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified." Read Chapters 2 & 3 of Galatians. They were "living good Christian lives" also, and Paul lambasted them.
The fact that LDS believe people could be "righteous souls" without having trusted *solely* in Christ (apart from trusting in how properly they live) *during this life* is proof-positive that LDS deviate from genuine Christian faith, sadly.

I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints & searched this video for better understanding after my kids were rejected from a Christian Private School. I was sad my Christian, beautiful, bright, talented & kind girls were dismissed- but after watching this, I’ll be more happy they won’t be surrounded by this ignorance!!!!! What a relief!!!!

@@shakespearefan All our knowledge of Christ comes from the Apostles, Jesus didn't sit down and write the New Testament, he gave the holy spirit to the Apostles and disciples. Peter even states that what Paul wrote is scripture. If you deny Paul's writings, you must also deny Peters's writings. To ignore and deny two of Christ's apostles is to question the validity of everything you know about Christ (since it comes from them) and to be disobedient to Christ and his word.

The same argument can be made about "mainstream Christianity" of today.
It can been said that "mainstream Christianity" worship a different Jesus then the 1st century Christians. If you take a history of Chrstianity class you can see how there has been an evolution of Chrstian thought. When I hear the phrase, "I worship the Jesus of the Bible" my next question is what does that mean? I have heard explanations that typically go back to the Nicene Creed and I think, thats the Jesus of the Nicene Creed not the Jesus of the bible.
When you read the bible the meaning still has to be interpreted and that is where the issue comes. One can argue the bible teaches a Trinitarian point of view but just as easily one can argue the Bible teaches that God the Father and God the Son (Jesus) are two separate individuals.
The non Trinitarian argument is overwhelming. Jesus said that his Father is greater than him, John 14:26-28.
That seems clear cut, while the trinity is never mentioned in Scripture. From Abraham to Jesus followers of YHWH were Mnotheists, why should that change later? Even at Nicea they didn't have modern Trinitarian theology, half the winning side were macedonianists, Binitarians.

I have been meeting with missionaries for the past seven years or since I came to know Jesus. I have so much compassion for the kids that have the unnecessary weight of the world being pressed down on them.
They are cast out and criticized if they don’t fall in line. I speak with them as Greg Koukl (stand to reason) says. I try and place a stone in the shoe..
I have had Bishops and other leaders at my house over the years and all I can say is that I have a heart for the kids that have spoken out to me, they need lots of prayer.
People in town are now starting to think that I’m a LDS. Then again the religious folk of Jesus time though he was a sinner, daemon possessed, an alcoholic for the men and women he was trying to influence.

I was raised in Utah, a Mormon, from 1974-2000. And the church always said "we are the only true church." Now that has changed which should point to deception, but people stay for community I guess.

If someone confesses that Jesus of Nazareth was the Son of God and believes in their heart that God raised him from the dead, they are saved according to Romans 10:9-10. Otherwise you don’t believe in salvation by faith alone. The would include the LDS.

I almost converted from Christian to mormanism, just a couple more differences. They don’t believe Adam and Eve sinned when the fall of man happened. They don’t believe in the trinity, they don’t believe we’re saved by gods grace
Have to disagree with you on the third one. Their belief is that we’re saved by grace “after all that which we can do.” The way this was explained to me is that they believe grace is necessary for salvation however unlike Calvinist’s they believe we can lose our salvation (more or less) and that grace is participatory. In other words, you can’t just say “I believe in Jesus” and you’re saved. You have to participate in the sacraments and ordinances of the church. In this way they seem to be similar to Catholics, just using a very different theological framework and ontology.
They’re also not anti-trinitarian in a classical sense. By that I mean they don’t so much reject the trinity outright but rather the trinity just isn’t compatible with their idea of what a god is. Because Heavenly Father, Jehovah (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit are invisible beings within creation. They still believe each of them are part of the Godhead and as such are in perfect alignment with each others will but like the best way I can describe it is that God isn’t a metaphysical concept to Mormons.
Also yes their view on The Fall concerns me deeply.

We don't have 3 different prayers for each if that's what you were implying. We pray to the Father in the name of Jesus Christ. We praise the perfected nature of the Father and the Son. We try to follow the earthly example of Jesus Christ in all we do. We listen for the promptings of the Holy Ghost. Doesn't sound like there's anything wrong with that to me.
As far as God is perfect always and never improved, I know you believe that but I don't see anything Biblical that proves that belief of yours absolutely. Even in the story of Jesus he grew. Sure he was always sinless and never repented of anything, but in another sense he improved. "And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man." (Luke 2:52) He eventually died and rose again in his glorified form, which John 17:5 revealed was the same glory he had before his mortal life. If Jesus Christ can ascend back to His divine form, is it SO wrong a belief to say that maybe there was a progression of glory to begin with? Especially when passages like Romans 8:17 and others say that we can be joint-heirs with Christ, and none of us are anywhere close to him right now.

No where in our cannon of scripture does it say God was once a human on a planet.
We do believe what it says in Romans 8:17 "and if children, then heirs - heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if so it be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together." We are children of God and as our Father, he wants us to be like him. Many Mormons have attempted to extrapolate out the implications of that, but none of those speculations is codified in our cannon of scripture.

LDS did believe in something like an infinite, or at least large, regression of Gods, based on an idea of Human Apotheosis. However they also believe in progressive revelation, so they no longer emphasise such ideas, and this is not in conflict with their theology. Remember, the pearl of great price, doctrine and covenants, word of wisdom and pronouncements by modern prophets are considered just as much scripture as the book of Mormon.
I noticed you did a video a year ago with Allen Parr about SDA, you mentioned you will read the doctrine for your self and discuss it. Was wondering if that was still in the works and if next time you could possible get a pastor from the church as well to clarify a lot of misconceptions about the church.
I was raised Jewish until the age of 15. From 15 to 30, I was an atheist. Then, at the age of 30, I became a born-again believer in Christ. Three years ago, at the age of 45, I met a wonderful lady who was Mormon. Initially curious, I started asking questions about her church. As she sought out the answers, she decided to leave and also became a believer. It's hard to see her struggle, but I know that in time, we will both grow.

Mike, i love your videos. Proud member of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints here. I will say that for years it hurt me when people called me unchristian. I didnt really unserstand why. Now i get it. I am not hurt anymore. Everything you said was a fair and accurate representation of what we believe. I will still proudly stand by what I believe. This is an interesting yet odd interpretation of the differences. In the last few years I’ve found that even within the LDS faith there are many different interpretations, just like how other Christian faiths interpret things differently (but the basics are close enough that it’s still one religion). Here are some points that I found off about what you shared about Mormons:
-Kolob is just another name for heaven and most LDS people aren’t well versed in that word.
-They do believe God is the end-all be-all omniscient God. They recognize that we don’t know all He experienced before He created our world so there are possibilities there. This idea more comes from logic than from a direct doctrine. And you may be right that the biggest difference is their belief that we are literally God’s spirit children who came to this world to receive a body, to progress and become the best version of ourselves for Him. Most Mormons feel a lot of unknowns about what Heaven will actually look like, and there are different interpretations of old revelations floating around.
-The existence of our spirits before going into our bodies at birth is held by other Christian denominations though, so that isn’t as big a difference as you made it sound.
-It’s also heavily debated whether God would have multiple wives in the LDS community. Polygamy was said to only be necessary as a sacrifice for specific purposes and in heaven you are supposed to be freed from your earthly sacrifices, so LDS people who have thought that through only believe there could be one Heavenly Mother. This is a big unknown by them.
In my experience there are so many similarities between certain Christian denominations and the LDS faith that it almost doesn’t matter which one. The real thing that matters is developing a personal relationship with the savior through the scriptures and prayer. No matter what church you go to, without that relationship it’s as if you’re not of the faith. So to me a true Christian isn’t of a particular faith, but is connecting to God daily through prayer and consistently following the spirit. He’ll help us work it out if we need to be a different faith now or even if he wants us to change after we’ve passed on.

No, it's not "the real thing that matters" because *something else must happen first.* It's far more important that a person (1) must realize he is hopelessly lost in sin and deserving of condemnation, (2) must realize that Jesus paid in full the penalty for sin, for everyone who believes (trusts) in Him and in His redemptive act for them as their one-and-only source of saving grace, and (3) *must trust therefore in Christ alone,* not in one's own good works or in one's church with its sacraments or ceremonies, for God's saving grace. *Coming to true faith in Jesus as one's Redeemer must precede "developing a personal relationship" with Him.*

You have missed the fundamental difference between Christianity and Mormonism, the primary reason why Mormonism is not Christian.
The primary reason is that Christians and Mormons worship different God's.
Christians worship an eternal God without beginning nor end, whereas Mormons worship a man who became a god, who himself is a child of a different man who became a god, from another man who became a god, and they believe that they themselves will one day become a god and have their own spirit children to worship them as god's.
The current Mormon father god has a father god who has a father god, who has brothers and uncles who are also god's in the world's they created.
This is a pantheistic belief system and is not in any way or form compatible with Christianity.

What i find amazing is the no one ever talks about when he came to Missouri he tried to get married women to leave their husbands. And still people followed why.
Well, look at the people who still follow Catholicism, even after decades of child abuse being hushed up and not dealt with. Yes, there are Protestant pastors and leaders who have sinned in such a way, but if they are still in leadership at least we have other churches/denominations to choose from and should leave that church in droves. Catholics either leave and don't go to church at all, or ignore the abuse and keep thinking their salvation comes through the church, more than through Jesus. (Not all, of course). I think a big reason they and Mormons, etc. stay, is because their whole family and circle of friends would shun them or change drastically towards them.

@@NickHawaii NKJV, but you will find that every translation except for the TLB, OJB, and WE renders Jesus' words as "I AM." This is out of 62 English translations. In addition to the reference of the divine name, every one of them, including those three, indicate Jesus' existence before Abraham. The word here for "I AM" is "ego eimi" in the Greek, which is the same as the Septuagint "ego eimi" "I AM" of Exodus 3:14.

Thank you for always talking about other branches associated with Christianity. I just met a friend who is Mormon and I can already tell how lost she and her husband are. Having the background on what they believe from a trusted teacher is really helpful in my ability to minister to them. I pray they would get on the right path with Jesus!
This is the "CliffsNotes" description of Christianity:
Prior to the resurrection event Jesus and his followers were in the context of early first century Judaism - yet another sub group that had Sadducees, Pharisees, Zealots, Essenes as the major groups (affirmed by Josephus). Christianity came into existence with the resurrection event as all of what is Christianity is fundamentally defined as those that believe and accept the reality of the resurrection from the dead of Jesus of Nazareth (and there is the Shroud of Turin as the incredible, jaw-dropping physical evidence of that event).
The resurrection event is the essential starting point of Christianity and then it becomes a matter of understanding the meaning of said resurrection and what it denotes as to the nature of who and what Jesus was (is).
Most of Christianity of today resides under the Council of Nicaea conclusion - an ecumenical debate held by the early Christian church that concluded with the establishment of the doctrine of the Holy Trinity. That doctrine holds that Jesus was (is) God incarnate into human form - as described in the preamble to the Gospel of John, or described by the Apostle Paul in Philippians 2:1 -11 (Gospel of John likely written in the decade of the 90s AD and Paul's epistles likely written in the decade of the 50s AD - so Christology was indeed consistent from the outset to decades later).
The alternative to the Holy Trinity doctrine was the Arianism view - that Jesus was (is) a created being; today LDS would fall under that umbrella, and the Jehovah’s Witnesses hold an Arian belief in respect to the person-hood of Jesus.
That Council of Nicaea indeed dealt with the matter that is at the heart of what Christianity, in respect to theology, is and means.
Next, comes matters of theology such as Jesus being unjustly executed on a Roman cross as being a propitiation on behalf of humanity, and what human response that that entails, etc. I personally recommend the Gospel of Mark as a place to start, because the heart of this gospel was where the followers of Jesus were grappling with coming to an understanding of what Jesus as the fulfillment of the promised Messiah actually is (wasn't their expectations).
Then after that, one gets into the window dressing aspects of Christian theology - but these are still very important - like in the first century Christian text, the Didache, where the sections on The Way of Life and The Way of Death set out how Christians should be living out their lives in having become Christians, and thereby setting themselves apart from their surrounding Hellenistic culture. (In the section The Way of Death, one sees that that culture was very much the same as Western secular culture of contemporary times.)
I grew up in the Mormon church from birth, was baptized at age 8 and we stopped attending when I was 12. From ages 12-17 I was spiritual and fell into a lot of new age because I just didn’t know truth, although I still prayed and said I was a Christian. It wasn’t until I was 17 when Jesus, the Son of God actually showed me who he was. He led me to throw away my Book of Mormon and open up the Bible. I accepted Jesus into my heart my senior year of high school and was baptized in a Bible believing church at age 19. I would have never found Jesus if I would have kept attending the Mormon church because they do not say Jesus is who HE says he is! They do not accept Jesus to be God in flesh and they get so many things wrong about the trinity and who we are as sinners in desperate need of a savior. They do not believe that Jesus’ work at the cross is completely finished like how he says it is. I love my Mormon friends and many of them don’t even know they’re being deceived. We need to pray for them just as we would any unbeliever and ask that Jesus would show them who he really is.

@@louiefence6579 well baptism is an outward expression of a spiritual transformation that has already happened on the inside. Baptism does not save you and if you aren’t a real believer and then you get baptized, it essentially means nothing. Baptism in the Bible happened after one had already accepted Jesus as their savior and it was basically saying “I am a new creation in Christ Jesus now and I will live my life following in his footsteps.” Mormons, as well as some other religions believe that baptism is a means of salvation, it’s one of the “works” that we can do in order to receive salvation and earn Gods favor. Mormons actually have baptisms for the dead in their temples all the time, which is not biblical at all, once your dead your fate is sealed, you’re either in eternity with God or not. There is nothing we can do to be saved, it is a gift from God, we cannot do anything to earn our salvation as Christians!

The phrase "I am the one, and there is none beside me," is a figure of speech, as I already said, that was pretty common in the ancient world. It just refers to supremacy, not literally being the only one. Again, read Isaiah 47:10 and Zephaniah 2:15, and you'll see the phrase being used that way.
Also in the Corinthians verse, Paul says that there are beings that exist that are called gods both in heaven and in earth. If he was just referring to judges or idols, why does he say there are mulitple gods in heaven?

We all know Constantine didn't like the fighting in the empire, so he wanted the council. But the church had already had many regional councils that had massive influence over vast areas. We have records from the year 150. Here is a cool thing that the emperor did in 313 in a political edict. He legalized Christianity. Do you wish Christianity would be illegal because politics should never be involved with religion?
All you need, usually, to determine if your faith is genuine Christianity is the 5 Anothers. If you have another Gospel, another Jesus, another Holy Spirit, another Word, or another Father God other than what the writers of the Scriptures taught, then you've departed from true Christianity (some related verses are Galatians 1:6-8, II Corinthians 11:3,4, I John 2:22,23; 4:1,2). This has helped me as a simple way of avoiding heresy and speaking to others about doctrine.
Seventeen years after becoming born again, I shared an office with a Mormon for about two years. At first, neither of us spoke about our respective faith’s. I was his technical project leader and he was my right hand. I really appreciated his focus and determined spirit. We became friends and helped one another outside work. Eventually, he shared his belief was that Jesus was the first of many gods. And, that he was going to become a god because he was married in the Mormon Temple.
He did not like it when I quoted the Bible to share my faith, but avoided saying why at first. I eventually shared how I surrendered my life to Jesus, the Christ, and how God’s Holy Spirit was transforming my mind and soul (sanctification). It’s my perception that our two year friendship gradually ended because he could not get me to budge an inch on my firm conviction that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.

The moment you accept Jesus as your lord and savior is salvation. Meaning you are saved. Sanctification comes next. It’s the renewing of your mind to become more like Christ. I don’t mean we will be gods like Christ. The Holy Spirit now dwells in you and will help you to walk in step with Jesus. You won’t want to talk the way you used to after you get saved. You won’t want to go clubbing or get drunk or have sex outside of marriage or go around slandering/gossiping about people anymore. That is the process of sanctification. Dying to your flesh daily and walking in the power of the Holy Spirit. You aren’t a slave to sin any longer and now you know the difference in right and wrong bc Gods word tells you. Faith without works is dead. yes it is faith and faith alone that saves you but if you say “I believe in God and am saved” but you’re purposefully living in sin, then no you aren’t saved. We will still struggle and mess up. The difference is your attitude towards sin. Is it flippant and you’ll just do whatever you want and ask for forgiveness later only to keep going back and purposely sinning over and over. Or is your attitude towards sin one of repentance? You mess up, realize it and say “oh God forgive me and help me not to do that again” and you mean it. You may even have ppl in your life you ask to help keep you accountable where you know you struggle. “Wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction; and there are many who go in by it. But narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads life and there are few who find it.”

I don't understand. Two Mormons visited me today, they said they believe in the St James version of the Bible as well as the Book of Mormon. So how can they have a different interpretation of God?
The BoM directly contradicts the teachings of Christ from the Bible. Both texts contradict each other. The Bible to them is just a prop.
The Book of Mormon is a satanic work, and they place it above the Bible, which they believe is corrupt. The bibles they read have Mormon footnotes telling them how to interpret the text.
Side note, what you said at the beginning about every doctrine needing to be exact is what the Orthodox Church believes.

Yes that was why i denied God for 23 years because i knew if he was the God of the bible everyone would go to hell . Sadly i had my eyes blind to the Gospel for the time, Thankfully God is merciful.
The same logic can certainly be applied to Protestants when it comes to the authority of God's laws. They typically argue that God's laws are abolished, that they were only for Israelites/Jews to live, or they're supposedly impossible to live by because Protestants want to worship a God that doesn't require them to live a holy life.

I think Peter words are reliant when Jesus asked him “do you go also” Peter said where else can we go you have the words of eternal life. (Or words close to that I don’t have scripture s with me)

No group on earth resemble first century Christianity closer than the Christian congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. I have compared all the churches and no one comes close.
@@Isaac-wl6wu The Bible itself foretells there would be an apostasy and deviation of truths. Many would set up teachings that would be exposed more clearly in due time. Doesn’t mean there wouldn’t be sincere ones who would try to worship God with spirt and truth. Most today unfortunately are still nominal Christians as hard is that is to hear for some. But Jesus told us how we can identify them. One being his true disciples would be no part of this world. Another is that his true disciples would have love among themselves.

Well, you didn't do your homework very well. The JW organization is in a free-fall now trying desperately hard to save members from leaving because many know it's not from God.
Also, the organization has so many false predictions that fell apart.
Also, in order to be a member of this organization, you MUST without question OBEY 8 men in NY or else there are consequences. This means you are ruled by men.
As a Christian, I only take orders from the Bible, the Holy Spirit and the wisdom that God provides.

Hey Mike I don't know if you will see this but I have a question. What do you think about the book Creating Christ? Apparently it states that Christianity was made by the Romans and some other things like Paul was a Roman agent or something.
