I've heard that Boehly was quite patient with the manager at the Dodgers, so I am hopeful that it will work out eventually. That said, if we see no improvement for the remainder of the season, I think even the most patient fans will start to get worried, including myself, especially if we start digging into the transfer market in January.

I don’t see why not. If he gets backing he could suddenly transform the team like Arteta did Arsenal. Who knows. It’s way too early to pass judgement and managers get the sack way too fast, especially at Chelsea.

I think my biggest fear with Potter is the trying to adapt your game each time to your opponent.
Yes you're meant to exploit weaknesses, but when you're the big team, you're expected to take control of the match and play your style and then tweak it to exploit weaknesses.
I feel with the approach Potter takes, it means that often Chelsea don't take control early in the game and this means it can too often spiral, as this only gives smaller teams confidence. Compare this to when City play and they just suffocate the smaller the teams.

This is just the truth. Look at the last 5 premier league winners and all those who challenged them closely. All 433 or at least a 4231 with arsenal now. Changing formations every game won’t work for a top team. I’d even argue that using a back 3 doesn’t work (except for cups). Then when you add in all the other changes with players all playing in different positions it’s an absolute mess. Chelsea’s 2 biggest issues past few years have been managers chopping and changing things too much as well as having a very injury prone squad. The seasons over now anyway so until then I’d go 433 anyway. Ziyech and Pulisic on the wings because they deserve it for now. Then come the transfer window there is so much that needs to be done. Replace the deadwood, and by deadwood I mean our injury prone players except James.

    • @theportugueselegend
      @theportugueselegend Před rokem

@@DrBased123 Hmmm not quite. I do agree that switching formations will not be a long term solution, I think the Premier League victories are because of the managers time with the teams. Pep, Klopp and now Arteta spent some time developing a style, a team and a formation to win not matches, but trophies.
Chelsea is a win now or get sacked team. It's a philosophy. Maybe they need time to get the right players and to them to get used to Mr. Potter

What you described doesn't seem like what Potter is doing with the centre backs. To send a LCB or RCB up the field and then the other two drop back to centre was what Tuchel did. Potter does not work this way. He drag out the LCB and RCB to wide positions to support the two wingbacks so as to create numerical advantage. But the downside is Thiago Silva is often left along in the centre position. Without a Kante-like CDM Chelsea suffer from a lot of fast counter-attacks. I don't know why he didn't change after a few times being caught on the break, but what you described is not what he has been doing.

@@PalestinianVictory96 that’s my problem, generalizations like such and such nationality is overrated, it’s not an argument as much as a grand sweeping statement. Potter is not of the same type of old school English manager like Sam Allardyce nor is he completely unproven in management and overrated like Frank Lampard. He’s been successful in every club so far and has grudually taken a step up, so a club like Chelsea is the logical next step. The likes of Guardiola is rarely ever available and sometimes you need to take a chance on talent. It makes perfect sense to me, as he’s proven smart and is tactically adapt, the only thing I’d admit to is him not commanding the same type of respect as a top tier proven manager, but with time and results that could change.

I don't think Chelsea fans should be feeling so negative. Well, this is the first year Chelsea begin their rebuild, many challenges are waiting for the team. Potter is the right man to place the first bricks to build a new reign, he may not achieve any trophy, his legacy is ready for someone else to win, like Carletto's case with the tripple UCL Real Madrid. He built that squad and Zidane just need to maintain morale.

He's proven in the Prem in terms of winning football games. The question is handling the pressures of Chelsea. Being reevaluated after each loss. Unhappy international stars on the bench. Etc. If he can manage those things well, I believe its just a matter of time till the on field product will be up to par with the rest of the Top 4 again.

This is a result of years and years of poor scouting and buying specific players for specific managers and there playing styles . We need a squad rebuild that has a set playing philosophy and we need to buy the right profile of player instead of buying players who can only function in a certain system for a certain manger much like jorginho being a sarri player and not really being able to give balance outside of sarri system .

Playing players out of position has to stop at Chelsea. Simplicity brings beauty in football. All these flexibility nonsense leading to midfielders playing wingback is absolutely rubbish. I

Playing a back 3 won't work anymore. Look at spurs with conte.

    The problems with him are:
    1. He plays a lot of players out of their positions and keeps doing that
    2. He plays Fantasy football with the team i.e. changing it too much even in FF you pay a price of too may changes
    3. He has no winning mentality i.e. he sets up the team quite defensive and hopes for a 0-0 draw against teams like Arsenal, City, Newcastle and obviously you will lose against those when you go for a draw
    4. He makes a mistake, sees it changes it in that game (Brentford, United matches) but in the next game he does the same. He has played Cucurella as full left back too many times and everyone sees that Cucu is terrible there but Potter doesn't have it!
    5. People complain about injuries but like to ignore that e.g. even when Chilwell was ready he was being benched in favor Cucu, you have Azpiliqueta who plays fix in Spain but then he favors RLC who should not even be in this Chelsea team. His favoritism especially towards English players is another issue of him.
Long story short he is not at the calibre of Chelsea as no English coach is either. No top club in the world (including PL) assigns an English coach since they are nowhere close to world class coaches.

Good content personally I think people need to ease off, this season with all the changes was gunner b a transitional season, on top of that we've had some key players out through injuries any side would miss them! We've invested in some real quality youth and think given a little time, he's the right man going forward I like his style of football what he done with Brighton was fantastic he's now got world class players to work with I've no concerns at all we have no divine right to be top 4 people need to be realistic this season but I know we'll be right at it next season and many seasons to come!Bohly personally although very different to abram is going about things very nicely investing in the best youth throughout the world give it a little time CARE FREE!!!

I think the problem is that this is the 3rd transitional season in the past 5 years. Plus we can't keep missing out on Champions league, as this will affect our finances within the FFP structure.
Obviously this season we may have to accept this, but we cannot miss more than one season in the champions league, especially if we want to keep our big players like Havertz, Nkunku (if we really have got him as the reports say), Broja, even James if we rely on him too much.

@@jamieoliver3262 Oh yea I 100% agree. But also the new owner brought this on himself by sacking the fan favourite manager like 6 weeks into the season.
This panic and examining through a small lense was totally due to Boehly not waiting until the end of the season, even if fans need to calm down and support the team more.

@@Nkosie007 clearly shows you don't watch football well. Arsenal for example most at times build up with the back 3 system and even play the back 3 system when in possession. It's not only about creativity. Even city does same. They play Akanji, Dias/Stones and Ake as CBs with Cancelo being more offensive . If we have the personnel and right coach, formation wouldn't be the problem.
