I made a bread box roll type desk style,when I was 17 of age and I made it for my mom for Mother’s Day gift she cried when I presented to her Now I am 51 of age.she passed away about 6 years ago before she she died she told me to take it back and she knew I would take care of it, I had many offers to sell it and I said no way, I am going to pass it on to the next generation of my family It took me 6 weeks to make it in high school wood shop , I got a A+ for a grade, I was very happy to hear that
I wish they'd shown how the desk top was attached to the case and how the top assembly was attached to the desktop. I'd also like to have seen how they installed the locking mechanism on the roll top and the desktop. I guess they have to edit out some things for time's sake.
In Central Western Ohio, where I made one last fall for a family friend, the price was about $950 for materials. In Southwest Texas, where I live now, the price is about $80 more, mainly due to availability issues and Big Box pricing in Ohio vs Mom & Pop Lumberyard prices and other additional availability issues. I think, in materials, it originally cost about $450-500 average to make this
