- Unboxing the brand new 2024 Shimano Calcutta Conquest SE 30 HG.
SE stands for Shallow Edition. This appears to be a black out version of the infamous Shimano Conquest round bait caster. In this video, we will have a in depth review of what's new, and a side by side comparison with the 21 Conquest 101. Before I got mine, I have been wondering about the spool compatibility between the SE and the 21 100 -- are they interchangeable? Let's find out!

Thank you so much for the review! I wanted to clarify, is it possible to replace the bfs and 31 spools? Or does the braking system not allow you to do this?
Unfortunately the BFS spool is not interchangeable with 30/31, braking system is the major reason, the dimension of the two are also slightly different.

Hey my Canadian friend, I'm not far, just a couple hours away~and I love the Niagara River/Lake Erie. I don't know for sure, since I only have the 100 size first Gen, but the new 30 is much smaller than the first gen 100, so I'd say similar size to the first Gen 50.

I attempted to get the 300MDLD last year, it never arrived in season (was planning to use it for striper/bluefish jigging) so I lost my passion waiting lol These are monster drive reels which are completely different from the 30, 100 and 200 sized Conquests.

I definitely want to get one, as for what I’m going to use it for ? I have a Aldebaran 31 and 51 already but I love finesse fishing and conquest reels so it will find a place in my arsenal.
Not sure if you are looking for a left or right. The lefty is just up for booking on some of the JDM websites, Shimano says they'll be available around April (but who knows...). BTW, I love the Aldebarans as well.

Thanks for video! Сan you recommend a lightweight spool for 2024 Shimano Calcutta Conquest SE for lures 2g+? I have 2024 Shimano CC SE 31HG and I think this is the best comfort to cast 5g-7g, maybe some lures +-4g, but lures 3g - uncomfortable
For that range of lures I'd go with any BFS options, or perhaps take a look at the Hedgehog Studio webpage lol
@@BassniperEng Of course, for that range of lures 2g+ I use 23 CC BFS and 22 Aldebaran BFS.... but if you want black reel with light spool?)))
Love that color scheme, can't decide if i want the 24se or the cq bfs one. Do you think the 24 version can bfs fish?
Still not the true BFS-- I mean if you want to do BFS for bass, yes absolutely, but if you want to target things down to 1gram or 2 grams, I'd go after Conquest BFS.

spools have different diameter of svs brake module, so they perhaps they have different brake surface ( ring inside cap)
Both measured 15.40 mm at the base and 14.60 mm at top. SVS ring both at 18 mm.
Can you compare casting the conquest shallow edition with the normal spool n the 21 spool

Shimano says April and a couple JDM sites just started taking orders last week. Let's see if Shimano would be on time this year. They been slow in the last couple years lol
Have you tried interchanging side plates on either frame like gold side plates with gunmetal frame vise versa?
Have not but all measurements including the braking cup on the side plate are identical. But that might make it look like Frankenstein Conquest IMO lol

will this be too small to use with my 7 2 MH rod? i had a 200 cal dc on it before but sold that reel .. this reel looks small like a BFS cal
What are you going to be throwing? This reel, the 21 Conquest 100 and the 23 Conquest BFS has the same dimension.
looks like this will be small for my rod then.. ill be throwing 20+ grams lures ... fishing mostly in 10 to 40 foot of water in the bay .. maybe ill just get the Calcutta Conquest MD 300
Is it worth to purchase if I have 21 conquest 100 and 23 conquest bfs ??
To me, I am planning to throw top water for mid-short distance (like hitting overhanging trees in the summer) using mono line. 23 BFS is not suitable for mono line (according to Shimano it's for fluorocarbon exclusively...). Also I've tried throwing small (less than 3/8 oz small profile) finesse spinnerbaits and finesse crank baits (Megabass Z2, Z3) on it, it was good, but expected. No superb improvement.

Why oh why do people spend so much money on a reel that has the side plate drilled to let dirt in. It looks good but is totally impractical.
There is a piece of transparent plastic sheet beneath the holes. It has been this way since gen 1 of Conquest. No problems with dirt going in. However, this year Shimano completely removed the end cap of new Poison Adrena, I’m with you on that one lol let’s see how many spiders the new PA could collect 😂
You obviously have never owned one.
Must say I prefere the design of the previous version of the Poison Adrena than the new model without the end cap@@BassniperEng
