Palomar Knot: Forget about the "Directions"
When tying a dropshot rig using the infamous Palomar knot, it is sometimes tricky to always make sure the hook is pointing up. There are many instructions telling you you need to thread the line or place the hook through the loop in certain directions, etc; and thread the tag. However, you actually don't need to pay attention to any of these...just tie it up, and then use this "Magic Trick", you can have a perfect Palomar every time without even thread the line tag.

Rods: WHY Length and Weight are almost Pointless: look for these 2 HIDDEN specs instead
zhlédnutí 8KPřed 3 měsíci
When talking about long rods and short rods, we often only refer to the rod total length. Actually the entire rod industry tends to do so. However, for artificial bait fishing such as bass fishing and trout fishing where a lot of wrist casting is involved, how much rod is actually constantly being used is not always reflected by its total length. Same can be said about the rod weight. A lot of ...
Not about Who is Better: This HUGE Difference of Shimano vs Daiwa that No One is talking about
zhlédnutí 113KPřed 4 měsíci
Shimano and Daiwa, whose reel runs superb? Not sure if there will be a correct answer. Both being top notch performers, it makes less sense to say which one is out performing the other. However, looking back for 20 years of modern fishing reel history and milestones, I found some interesting difference in terms of the way both companies roll out the tech updates on the fishing reels. #shimanore...

In this video I'll take you for a deep dive into the second key parameter of a baitcasting reel's spool: diameter. Just like spool weight, the spool diameter is a constantly changing variable during casting or retrieving. The diameter change significantly affects the lure speed, diving depth, the success rate of hook setting and fish fighting. With a little high school math and physics, you wil...

Equipped with the new 30 sized shallow spool, the 24 Conquest SE was on top of my list to field test. Although the Conquest SE is designed for bass fishing, I decided to do something different for the this field test how low does go as far as lure weight goes? I paired it with the Megabass Greathunting Huntsman 60L, and tested with a bunch of trout lures in an attempt to define its lower lure w...

Unboxing the brand new 2024 Shimano Calcutta Conquest SE 30 HG. SE stands for Shallow Edition. This appears to be a black out version of the infamous Shimano Conquest round bait caster. Before I got mine, I have been wondering about the spool compatibility between the SE and the ...
Me discovering yoyoing a jackhammer on slack line would catch smallies like crazy
Excellent analysis. I appreciate your in-depth review, especially with respect to techniques that work for this rod. I hope you make more videos covering the different rod offerings. I have the newer P5 Addermine which is marketed as a drop shot rod, but I don’t like it for the drop shot, as I can’t seem to maintain bottom feel with it. I always reach for my Whipsnake instead.
Daiwa and Shimano both make extremely good, ridiculously overpriced reels and pretty decent reasonably priced reels.
😮bruhh.. I am exhausted from all that knowledge.. felt like I was doing some work induction…😅
Unboxing videos are a dime a dozen. This is the juice. Keep 'em coming.
Brilliant ! 👏
When I was a kid I really enjoyed fishing with my pocket fishermen.
Liked / Algorithm
I had daiwas and quite frankly i never felt such a slick reel as when i got my first shimano which makes the daiwas feel like meat grinders by comparison
Great, your video is great. I really enjoy watching your videos. I wish you good health
Shimano is the BEST
whats the difference between the 30 and 31 ?
30 is right hand retrieve, 31 is left.
They're the same shit! Expensive!
Thank you so much for the review! I wanted to clarify, is it possible to replace the bfs and 31 spools? Or does the braking system not allow you to do this?
Unfortunately the BFS spool is not interchangeable with 30/31, braking system is the major reason, the dimension of the two are also slightly different.
This was great! A couple of surprises in there for me. Thank you
I owned Shimano and Diawa...I love both reels. I also love Abu Garcia reel
I tend to use Shimano reels but use both Shimano and Diawa 100-$200 rods depending on the features offered, power/action/length. Tough to beat the Exprides but in the $150 range Diawas rods seem to be finished better...look like a more expensive rod.
Beautiful reel, and beautiful rods as well!
I have a couple Daiwas but Ive always been a Shimano guy. I have over 20 Shimanos and I cant ever remember having to throw one out. Service them and they last forever.
If the reel mechanic say themselves that shimano even straight from factory need maintenance, than you can conclude by urself
I haven't bought a reel in 20 years. I bought Daiwa and Shimano during my buying years, but I don't have ANY Daiwa in my collection now. For no other reason than every one I ever had broke, and 20 plus years later all my Shimanos are still running.
I have a Daiwa reel and it's good, but I doubt it's going to last as long as the old Abu Garcia I have that my grandfather has been using since, probably the 60s. Or the old Viking button cast my dad got in the early 80s. Both were working great until last year when a spring broke on the old Abu Garcia.
It's what you can afford perhaps. I've got both and they both work well.
I've been a Shimano user for a very long time. In recent years, the ball bearings seem to be of lower quality 😢. In Europe, Shimano has very good customer service, Daiwa a very poor one.
I’ve fished both. Both rods. Love Shimano. Just love their stuff. On my bicycle. But fishing it’s Diawa. Especially since the Tatula came out. . Both rods and reels .
What about MQ body ???
I use to be a Daiwa man but I’m leaning towards Shimano now.
Just get an Okuma and no more problems😂
Main difference is Daiwa service department has no idea and will do crazy stuff like put extra washer in drag and drops of oil into the anti reverse (speaking from personal experience)
I love daiwa reels. I own 5 bg's of various sizes i just love them!!! So smooth and nice to uss i just wish they had louder drag
Hi, Thank you for the video. Can you make video for calcutta conquest MD 400 long handle vs regular handle.
I attempted to get the 300MDLD last year, it never arrived in season (was planning to use it for striper/bluefish jigging) so I lost my passion waiting lol These are monster drive reels which are completely different from the 30, 100 and 200 sized Conquests.
I've got about 15 shimano setups and never had an issue with any of them. Bought Daiwas BR baitcaster reel and it completely locked up and failed within a year. That was the first and last daiwa I'll buy.
Who backreels?! WHO BACKREELS?!?!?!
Incredible video, please keep making content
Will do. Been on a couple long trips recently. Hopefully I don't feel going up north again next week lol
I fish in California in the surf for big game I rather go with daiwa over shimano mostly for the price like a sealine sh20 or 30 is not expensive compared to a real of the same category, Shimano would sell
Great video
The fact Daiwa said reels are designed to last 2-3 yrs convinced me to stick with Shimano!
what a fantastic video! I"ve owned both. Still using my Shimano Baitrunners circa 2002. My diawa reels are dead. Forgot which model I had . It was back in about 2005 I went all Diawa with my inshore lightweight spinning gear. They wall ended up with the same issue. The reels stopped locking and would reel backwards. No way to stop this. Extremely annoying. About 8 years ago I went all in on Quantum reels. Bought 5 smoke reels. Best reels I've ever used or owned period. All of them still running great. Also bought a large Quantum Boca around the same time. This reel is bomb proof. Use it for catching 25-40lb fish and it crushes them while functioning smoothly. Currently Quantum is at the top of my list. I don't pay attention though and know that everything changes constantly. Shimono Baitrunners are big bulky and old school but these things have ridden on my boat for two decades getting splashed with saltwater and they still function perfect. Can't justify upgrading. They cost $119 back when they were new. My greatest reel success story.
I’ve been using Daiwa reels for decades and they make the best paper weights hands down. I am a software developer and when I work from my boat, I use the Daiwas to keep my papers from blowing off the boat while I fish with my Shimanos. The extra weight snd the rough gearing really helps it hold the papers down.
LOL trigger warning for Daiwa fanboys lol love the WFB! Recently did that a couple times.
I have some Daiwa reels that are about 20 years old. Always worked great no problems. I am looking for a slow pitch set up, and will skip both brands and go with Penn.
Zebco 33 is the do everything reel lmao
When it acts up just dunk it underwater and it’s fixed. Seriously it works. My dad showed me that trick about 55 years ago. That was my reel many years ago. Caught a 27 lb mirror carp on one with 8 lb stren mono.
One I purchased my first serious Shimano I’ve never owned anything else.
Ma chi sei?.... Andreotti!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Chi è Andreotti?
Are we supposed to think your opinions were not biased and fair? If "yes," then I advise you for your sake to do your research properly before doing those comparisons! I heard you mention Stella's and their technologies etc etc, and yet Daiwa and their technologies hardly get a mention. Why is that? I think there's more than just the Monocoque from Daiwa, which other major companies are fond of or even jealous of..! It's not just Monocoque design, which Daiwa has introduced into fishing. Besides, there's more to gears than gears for just freshwater fishing. Do you or have you heard of the Zaion or Magsealed, just to name a few? Magseal doesn't just come in ball bearing form. Do you even know what magseal is? Bro, I've used and still using them but it's a no brainer for me, if anyone asked which is better? I do own 4 shimano reels (Stella, Twin power, Stradic, Saragosa) but that's where it stops. As for Daiwa I have 3 Saltiga and 8 Certates including the HD Certate and Luvias, Saltist, Caldia and so on..! If I thought shimano were better reels then I'm sure I'd have more shimano reels instead of Daiwa. But shimano has a much better customer service I'll give them that.!
I never say I am not biased, just like you, I am biased for sure and this video was not intended to show how "fair" I am, but rather to share a different angle to look at the difference between the two brands, and I am not saying which is better at all if you watch till the end. Also contrary to what you said in the comment, I actually did account for a lot of the Daiwa technologies, including MQ, Magseal, and several others, but only to show they did not put a lot of their new techs on their flagship models right away from a bass reel stand point, this is fact. And yes, I know exactly what MagSeal is, what Zaion is, and I can tell you Daiwa was not the first to use Zaion in the fishing industry. Megabass was earlier. Also if you do your research properly, monocoque came from VanStaal, or at least they own the monocoque back from the early 90s. Daiwa had to wait. I'm not going to comment on the originality here. Like the title implied, "NOT about who is better" -- and I really mean it.
@BassniperEng bro, if you'd said your videos are biased, then I'm sure including myself would not have watched your video! Of course, there are no laws against it. But my point was, if you want people to take you seriously and have many viewers, which I'm sure that is your goal here, then you gotta be fair and especially not claim things like, Daiwa releases new gear ALL THE TIME WITHOUT TESTING THEIR GEAR PROPERLY! Seriously, that claim alone is so ridiculous because it's a common knowledge it's the Shimano who changes and releases another model nearly every year.! Do you know how many times Daiwa Saltiga changed? Once in over 20 years. How many Stella's in 20 years, I ask? I honestly can't understand why people use Shimano.? Saragosa and Stradic seem like they're getting worse. Shimano are trying so hard to copy Daiwa, but in such a way, it's hard to tell to some. The one thing I do like about Shimano is their customer service like I said earlier, but that's it!
I have lost faith in shimano spinning reels, especially models built in Malaysia. Bought a sustain FG when they were originally released and was running rough as after less than a month of mild use. Have gone with daiwa since and no issues so far.
This is a very insightful comparison of these two product lines. My journey with Shimano began during my cycling days. Their high-quality bike components, such as Durace and Ultegra, left a lasting impression on me. When I ventured into fishing and discovered Shimano's reels, I immediately associated them with top-notch quality and outstanding performance. My spinning setup, featuring the Vanford and Ultegra models, has exceeded my expectations. While I appreciate my Diawa reels for their performance, Shimano remains my trusted choice for biking and fishing.
Thanks for video! Сan you recommend a lightweight spool for 2024 Shimano Calcutta Conquest SE for lures 2g+? I have 2024 Shimano CC SE 31HG and I think this is the best comfort to cast 5g-7g, maybe some lures +-4g, but lures 3g - uncomfortable
For that range of lures I'd go with any BFS options, or perhaps take a look at the Hedgehog Studio webpage lol
@@BassniperEng Of course, for that range of lures 2g+ I use 23 CC BFS and 22 Aldebaran BFS.... but if you want black reel with light spool?)))
