2024 Shimano Conquest SE 30 HG for TROUT Lures?! How LIGHT does it cast? An Atypical Reel Test

  • Equipped with the new 30 sized shallow spool, the 24 Conquest SE was on top of my list to field test. Although the Conquest SE is designed for bass fishing, I decided to do something different for the this field test-- how low does go as far as lure weight goes? I paired it with the Megabass Greathunting Huntsman 60L, and tested with a bunch of trout lures in an attempt to define its lower lure weight limit for practical use. Just how LOW does it go? Let's find out.

    Great Video❤
    It‘s very nice to have content about the CC SE from a source that is obviously competent and I can understand.
    And yes:
    I would appreciate to learn more about the Huntsman- Rod.

    Great video! I have a question for you…have you ever used a shimano Metanium DC 70A reel? If so, if you could get the DC 70A or a 24 Calcutta conquest 30HG for the nearly same price, what reel would you choose for casting 1/8 oz - 3/8 oz lure weights? The DC 70A looks to be 1.7 oz lighter than the CC-30HG….(aluminum gear vs brass gears?)….that’s a fairly substantial difference in weight.

    • @BassniperEng
      @BassniperEng  Před měsícem +1

      Yes the new black out Met DC, I have the 71 lefty model, been using it for about 3 months. I would say if you plan to use only one reel to cover a wide range of lure weights and types (i.e. different air resistance), I'd go with the DC; if you plan to focus on lures on the lighter side like 1/8-3/8, I would go with the Conquest 30 HG. This is only considering casting though. For handling fish and lure presentation, the DC (or low profile in general) fits better for palming, also gives more leverage to the presentations that require a lot of wrist action (i.e. less fatigue). Weight difference is the other. Al gear saved maybe 5-10 grams of weight compare to the previous gen. Met and Conquest have two different platforms so a lot of parts are made of different material, with Conquest aiming at long term durability. For myself, I am not impressed of the micro module aluminum gear's retrieve feeling on the new Met DC.

    What's the difference between this one vs conquest bfs 23?

    • @BassniperEng
      @BassniperEng  Před 2 měsíci +1

      The casting brake mechanisms are completely different. BFS is Shimano's FTB (magnetic brake); this one is still SVS infinity (centrifugal); spools are different in diameter and line capacity (SE does not have the restriction of "no mono line" etc...); main gear material for BFS is Al-alloy; SE is still brass. These are some main points from top of my head.

    • @j7pro629
      @j7pro629 Před 2 měsíci

      @BassniperEng I see, it'd be cool to see the comparison video between SE and BFS! Thanks.

  • @Syntheticfish
    @Syntheticfish Před 6 měsíci

    Do you think I could use the 60L for shoreline BFS bass and other species? or do you feel like the taper is only suited to trout and trout lures? ( too soft )
    Also thanks, your videos are quite good - subscribed to both of your channels.

    • @BassniperEng
      @BassniperEng  Před 6 měsíci

      Thanks for the support! It will be too soft IMO, can only throw super finesse treble hook baits and spinners and spoons, but not good for soft baits like Texas or small jigs etc. Also if any cover (weed, wood, boat dock, pilings etc), I don't think it would have the dominance to pull bass out given the power and length of the rod. Open water yes, a 1 pounder smallmouth would be a hell of a fighter on this rod lol Talking about bass applications using similar trigger rod for single handed casting, I would use Pagani (either the Trad like appeared in my first vid or the 1 piece) for bass-sized plugs, etc.

    Hi! Good video... I would like to buy this reel for sea light game (7-10g baits).
    Would you reccomend the calcutta SE or BFS? I feel like the SE has more power but i could use it for small rigs anyway

    • @BassniperEng
      @BassniperEng  Před 2 měsíci

      I'd definitely go with the SE. BFS has line limit (if you want to stay strictly as the manual says, you could not use mono line, and you could not put more than 45 meters of FC line on the spool due to potential spool deformation caused by line tension...). For saltwater application FTB design to me is just calling for durability problem on the long term (salt going into the spool and onto the magnets etc).

    I'm on the fence here. I need a reel to pair with my Fenwick Aces 6'8 Light fast moving special. Plan to use it exclusively for small crankbaits, such as the OSP Blitz and other 2", 3/16 oz baits. I really don't want to use a BFS reel as I want the additional line capacity. It looked like you were having some mild issues casting that 5 gram jerkbaits. How do you think this reel would perform casting quarter ounce crankbaits? I would imagine better than the same weight jerkbaits. My other options are to use my Steez CT or SV Limited Light.

    • @BassniperEng
      @BassniperEng  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I threw Megabass Z1, had no problems at all, but Z1 is equipped with LBOII, that helps a lot. With a 6'8" light rod I think you shall be able to throw 5-7g crankbaits more comfortably. The rod I was using was a light powered trout rod, pretty wimpy and short. Longer rod definitely will help.

    A different view of fishing, like the technicality details in youre videos. When casting these light lures what type of rod would you recomend, noticed that youre rod bends easily with these light lures. I have a shimano metanium MGL and megabass levante 4 pcs rod 7-21g medium fast, should I go for a slower rod to get better casting distance ?

    • @BassniperEng
      @BassniperEng  Před 5 měsíci +1

      If distance is your aim, then find the rod that loads well with your daily casting weight is key, as important as using the thinest line that could handle your fishing condition. Type of lure is also critical since air resistance plays a huge role in long distance casting. Future vid will detail these. Stay tuned.

    Do you think if the rod was UL, it would help with casting below 3.5 g?

    • @BassniperEng
      @BassniperEng  Před 5 měsíci +1

      hmm...in the test when I got down to 3.5 g leech spoon I was feeling the trajectory becoming much higher, approaching the lower limit this spool (with fluorocarbon and mono backing) could achieve. I'd say if you spool it with super thin braided line, it might still handle lighter lure reasonably OK. But for that regime I would opt to a true BFS reel like the Conquest BFS.

    • @BassniperEng
      @BassniperEng  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Megabass Pagani series has 1 piece or 1 piece+grip settings. Great Hunting is their trout series I guess they want to keep the closed length short for mobility reasons. Tenryu has those middle cut 2 pieces trout rods, awesome too.

    comparison with the 23' conquest bfs? please

    • @BassniperEng
      @BassniperEng  Před 4 měsíci

      In a nutshell, the 24 Conquest SE is not a true BFS reel compare to the 23 Conquest BFS, I would not throw anything below 1/8 oz on the SE, but no problem going around 1/16 oz on the 23 BFS, and would be able to reach lower if everything else (line, rod, bait) are in good match.
