Resident Evil 7 - The Return of Survival Horror

- It was a challenge but I can finally say I completed Resident Evil 7 and all of it's DLC. Usually the more you know a franchise, especially a horror game series, it tends to get less and less scary. But Resident Evil 7 Biohazard blew me away and one of the scariest games in the series.

Resident Evil 7 biohazard is the next major entry in the renowned Resident Evil series and sets a new course for the franchise as it leverages its roots and opens the door to a truly terrifying horror experience. A dramatic new shift for the series to first person view in a photorealistic style powered by Capcom’s new RE Engine, Resident Evil 7 delivers an unprecedented level of immersion that brings the thrilling horror up close and personal.
Set in modern day rural America and taking place after the dramatic events of Resident Evil® 6, players experience the terror directly from the first person perspective. Resident Evil 7 embodies the series’ signature gameplay elements of exploration and tense atmosphere that first coined “survival horror” some twenty years ago; meanwhile, a complete refresh of gameplay systems simultaneously propels the survival horror experience to the next level.
Hope you enjoyed my Resident Evil 7 review!

This game was such a masterpiece!! 🤩
The return of the intro. How interesting.

I can’t believe it’s been 7 years
i just tuned in on this at 7am
I Remember playing this game multiple times and was getting used to the scares……then I played Madhouse for the first time and absolutely shit myself when I encounter Jack for the first time and he put his crocs on sports mode.
RE7 saved the franchise. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
oh my word that game is literally so good
My god...
Has it actually been seven years?
I enjoyed this game soooo much. I got the Japanese version just so I could 100% it twice.
Fugg, it was a good game, and just as fun the second time through.
I think I finished both copies within like a couple of months due to having to wait for the Japanese copy to ship, so man it must have been rough for the completionist too not do it for 7 years.
Did you finish Ethan Must Die?
I did, and I cannot tell you the deep sense of accomplishment once doing so. So tough.

RE7 really changed the game for so many RE fans and might still be the favorite for so many even after 8.
This game really put the "survival" and "horror" back in survival horror. And started a whole new direction for Resident Evil. I haven't been genuinely unnerved by a game like that in a long time.
Same here.
Tearaway Unfolded would be cool.
What?! You haven't touched RE6? It's 'cutscene' the game! Seriously that game stops gameplay for a cutscene on average every 2 minutes.
Yes, but I got to punch zombies heads off so I still had a fun time

Re7 is pretty good but basically all resident evil games are great. I thought RE8 was on another level
Re8 was my favorite
*glares at RE6*
RE8 is garbage
@unityofvitality-5875 it's okay to admit that you're garbage though
Resident Evil 7 is probably one of the most scariest games I've ever played it took me so long to finish it. I would restart it all the time. Love your videos, dude!
I love how RE7 went with the more modern horror aesthetic of a creepy deformed family in a house (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes, House of 1000 Corpses), then RE8 went with a classic horror aesthetic (using vampires, ghosts, mad scientists). It's a great run through of the genre.
Yeah, I'm Absolutely NOT a fan of *The Texas Chainsaw Massacre* franchise, *The Hills Have Eyes* franchise and *The House of 1000 Corpses* film, but I do love Vampires, Ghosts and Mad Scientists.
can't wait to see what will be next
Why I’m not getting notifications 😢
Zero mention of Ethan Must Die which is a big reason why I clicked in the first place. That's the one DLC mode I didn't even bother to mess with beyond a couple pathetic attempts
Resident Evil 7 is seriously one of my favorite games of the last decade! And all the dlc it has is so much fun, I've done so many Ethan Must Die runs I've lost count at this point lol
Still waiting on that Dino Crisis remake.
I've been waiting for this for a long time
"Haven´t we all?"
Oh man, this is the first Resident Evil since I was a kid that really got my excited for the franchise. I love it, thanks for covering it!
You finally did it, you finally completed RE7!
Plus there is an Evil Dead influence too, it was even referenced when Jack gets his chainsaw scissors weapon and says “Groovy.”

Your LP with the SGS of RE7 has sooooooo many memorial moments, I think I've watched it in its entirety 4 times.
This was such a great Scary Games Squad Series. Also nice to see the intro is back.
RIP Clancy Javis
I loved that Scary Games Squad series of RE7 myself.
Why is it that the only games set in Louisiana are horror based?
Cos it’s a swamp lol
This game is crazy accurate to how it is living in Ville Platte
Ever had a Louisiana pepper? Their like little Hell dimensions in your mouth.
A lot of Louisiana kinda just feels like horror. It’s part how media keeps portraying it, and also how Louisiana portrays itself. If you go to New Orleans there are graveyard tours (because their graveyards are awesome). They lean into the spooky aspect.
A huge chunk of Red Dead 2 is based on Louisiana, and it's not scary. Same with Mafia 3.
This game was a great time and full of some scary moments, though the final parts of the game did get a bit long.
Also, your LP with Scary Games Squad is a fun must watch!
YESSS I've been waiting for this one!
Welcome to the Completionist, son!
Nano machines son they harden in response to physical trauma you cant hurt me
I have yet to play this particular RE game. I had been focusing on the re-makes, but now I may have to visit this entry. Maybe during the Halloween season.
This is one game I’m to scared to try on VR.
Its not that bad. I didnt crap my pants.... often.
Fianlly he reviewed this. I had juat beaten it a few months ago lol. Good one beard man.
You're pathetic
Can I put in a request for Cyber Shadow? I don't think you've ever covered it on your show and I'm really interested in your take on it
Strange how I can handle an angry mob of villagers, but I dont have the guts to fight a countryside family.
BTW, there is barely any music while playing the main game. All you hear is the house move and your feet.
I think my favorite thing about RE7 is how clunky it feels. Granted, I never actually played it, having only watched other people play it, but it was awesome to see this new character who pretty much never handled a firearm before do so. I feel like it added to the tension as not only were you locked in the first-person perspective, limiting how much info you know, but you also had to deal with your character fumbling with their firearm. I thought it was a really neat touch.
It didnt feel clunky at all to me. Maybe it just looks that way
Crazy requirements to complete this one. Damn!
bruh i could not get myself to sit through 6. felt like playing some shooter unrelated to RE
7 was definitely a relief.
It's better with a friend. 5 and 6 both offer couch co-op, and I find them a lot more enjoyable if you have someone to laugh at the game with you.
Awesome vid!!! So happy you did RE7. I have also completed this game and gotten all in game rewards. 21 took my enjoyment of life away. But Jacks 55th Birthday was so goofy and fun that I still go back and play that every once in a while. Also, Night Terror, Ethan Must Die, and End Of Zoe are all blasts.

I could never finish this past a certain point! The goopy guys in the basement always freaked me out sdfgffgfgfgfg
This was my very experience with VR. I was beyond impressed, i expected it to be gimmicky, but it was amazing!
I actually love the blackjack DLC. I wish they'd patch it to enable faster animations so that the rounds wouldn't take so long.
I cannot stand RNG-based Trophies. Many times, I just skip them completely
Resident Evil has always been a franchise I've enjoyed watching from afar. I've only played a couple of titles from it, RE4 and 5, but what I played certainly kept my attention. I've considered giving the newer stuff a try at some point, though I personally enjoy the 3rd person camera much more than a first person view, for these kinds of games. RE7 definitely seems to have the creepy factor going for it, along with plenty of other things, so it certainly sits on my ever growing list of "Gotta try that one at some point" games. All that said, great episode, Jirard, definitely looking forward to the next one, and good to see the intro back.
This was my first Resident Evil Game and I love this game so much. I also played this recently and it aged well.

A lot of gaming CZcams channels got special videos like that just before the game dropped. If I recall, they were limited view and erased after a full watch or two. They were an urban legend the first couple hours they were in the wild until folks were able to get digital copies made.

I have not honestly played a single Resident Evil game ever.
Glad to see the intro return.
2,3,4 and 7 are the ones that anyone should play if they want to enjoy some Survival Horror.
REmake is also incredible. One of the top 3 for sure.
3 Remake was $hite to what it SHOULD have been 😑
@analoren4745 My favorite RE game. Remained faithful to the OG while expanding the lore. Also the graphics were 👌 and is still enjoyable to this day.
Wtf
As much as i love RE7, i only did two runs before putting it down after some dlc. Its cool to experience once or two due to the clusterphoibc feeling it gives you. Not so much for multiple runs.
I think Re8 did a fantastic job fixing that "problem" for lack of a better word
I missed out a lot on the Resident Evil series in the past but Resident Evil VII was the first one I checked and really enjoyed. Well, I still haven't played it yet (I do have it) but have previously seen many CZcamsrs' playthroughs and I eventually got it.
As cool as resident evil it you have to pay me to play the VR version of 7 because I would turn into the most paranoid fucker alive just walking around the levels
I actually played it in VR for a first playthrough. I'm not gonna be the same ever again.
I whined when spidey Margarite busted out of the wall in VR
Could you please play sunset overdrive?🙏
You know what I think….it’s time to remake RE 1….again.
This game is one of the best re’s and it’s not close. The atmosphere alone is disturbing
I'm a big fan of code Veronica's atmosphere.

Resident Evil is a series where I loved the 1st game loads and wanted to love the rest. But I can not handle games where I'm being stalked. I do, however, love watching people play them. Great series in that aspect.
What happened to the old Thumbnail style? I liked seeing the characters depicted having those iconic beards.
Due to a scandal The Completionist got involved in that greatly damaged his public reputation, he had to remove his face from the thumbnails.
That’s the story I know in a nutshell. There could be more significant details I missed out.
@@johnmillay6790. Yeah because of the scandal. Pat attention and keep up
@@johnmillay6790 I mean, the quality of the thumbnail art looks more or less the exact same, so I’m not sure about that. It’s literally just the beard that’s missing.

Is this the same person as Jared’s moderator?
I like that Capcom evolves with it's fans. I definitely think RE7 is the scariest game in the franchise overall, and I think that it was the right game at the right time. That being said, as much as I like RE7, I'm glad Capcom is shifting more towards it's main cast and experiencing how the REmakes are increasingly made with more of a sense of horror and dread added to them. This design choice shows that RE7 was a necessary course correction. It went all in on the sadism and gore, which as a one off title, is great but I'm glad Capcom seems to be balancing the horror focus with more traditional RE experiences. RE7 is also one of the games that went all in on DLC. I like a fair bit of it too. Chris and Joe Baker's campaigns are both pretty engaging, and tie up loose narrative ends. The Bedroom Found Footage is a must play in my opinion, as is the prequel featuring Zoe and the Baker's before they went mad. I also enjoy the game of Blackjack with Lucas. It's completely sadistic and gruesome, but there's something endearing about the way Lucas yells "Clancy"...😆😥😱
When they meke another good dmc game
Why they only make one good one
Love this game. Definitely more enjoyable than 8.
I almost plated this game but didn’t wanna learn the must die mode

Love that the intro is back!
RE7 was the biggest breath of fresh air I have seen in reviving a long standing, staled out series. Say what you will about enjoying 5, but I didn't.
The RE engine is probably my favorite game engine being used. With each release with Village and 2,3 and 4 remakes it keeps looking better and better. Might be beating a dead horse, but would pove to see RE 1 be re-released with it, optional 1st person.
I don't enjoy horror, but it's fun to learn about the games vicariously.
You should play RE 6, very overhated game
Re 6 doesn’t exist.
Wooooo!
Yes! The intro is back! Let’s gooooooo
What a disgusting fanbase.
Re7 was the first one my wife and i played together followed by Re2 remake and Re3 remake. Re4 is next
Being real this game brought me back into resident evil...RE 6 ugh almost pulled me out completely
I'm mean yeah there was 5 and the others but 6 is canon think about it
Even code Veronica had a better story than 6 and if I remember correctly that game isn't canon but it might be don't really know Resident Evils story is pretty crazy
So true. 5 was... ok. But 6 just was horrible.
5 is reasonably an awesome game co-op, and I’ll never play it single player.
6 went very very hard in a weird direction. I don’t remember much of it, but something something flesh transforming dinosaur.
Oh God, I couldn't play ANY of the characters for more than an hr because it was so bad. And they say the Leon story was the best 🤮
I don't do horror well, so i enjoy videos like this.
i mean forever this will be iconic pr hunny!!
Man, your completionist aspect remains unique, a valid and useful way to look at games, but by valuing completion of aspects more really brings a unique take to things. Also, by now you’re simply massive experience with all things truly puts you unique position.
You try way too hard to sound profound and intelligent. Take it down a notch or two.
Skipped five and 6 good call because complete them is nightmare on the mercenary modes
I really couldn't enjoy the first Resident Evil Games with the Tank Control. 4 made me finally start liking the Series way more. 5 and 6 where okay but always had to live up to 4. But 7 oh boy. While sometimes i don't like when they change a established Gameplay of a Series. I really love 7 and 8. Such great Games. Hope they continue this in the Future^^
What if I was to tell you that RE4 (original) used tank controls?
@@FranticDan tbf, RE4 controls a lot less tankier than the original crappy controls of the first 3 RE (don't know how much of this tank scheme is still con Code Veronica)
@@Deadpool-ts3tq Aside from the manual aiming, what else is less tankier (genuine question)? Turning and moving backwards and forward are tank controls, you can't move while aiming, there's also the 180 quick turn. These 3 things are tank controls.
@@FranticDan You have a point, honestly my mind was thinking of RE5 controls, which movements are more fluid.
What I actually meant, is we got rid of the fixed camera angles (Thank god), which, in my opinion, made it clunkier
Finally
I glad RE7 became scary once again (we don't talk about 6 seriously zombies with guns is a dumb idea), and now the remakes are getting more scary as well, so thanks to RE7 and RE8 they're "resurrected" the franchise 😂
