- My 'Gift' OLYMPUS OM-1 original model. I cleaned and renewed the rotten light seal strips and will show you how I got the Flash Synch Plug to work , and how the OM Winder works. Also i show some negatives taken with it.

Hi Peter, I Really enjoyed your presentation of the om-1. Thank you!
Still one of my all time favorites for street photography.
Thanks for this video. I was given this camera for my 21st birthday in 1978. Used it ton, and took it to college with me where I worked as a photographer for the school. I also had the motor drive, which came in pretty handy shooting sporting events. I had the same 50mm lens as well as a 135mm telephoto. I probably shot a few thousand rolls of film, and did my own processing and printing. Unfortunately it was stolen a number of years back. I still miss it.
Thanks peter, your passion for cameras is very inspiring
Your videos are very fun to watch. I love your commentary!
My two favorite cameras are my OM-1 and My Minolta auto-cord. third is my Canon AT-1. (the only downside to the AT-1 is a battery requirement.) when I stopped at the Custer Battle field a few days ago I had my OM-1, can't wait to develope that role. unfortunately all my stuff is boxed up for my move which I am right in the middle of, I was on my way back for another load of stuff. 2000 miles one way!
Waiting for everything to come out excellent Peter, I will make a small prayer for you, God bless you in health. warm Regards.
My favourite 35mm camera. Love the big bright viewfinder on these cameras too.
The OM1 was the first camera I bought with my own money, 40 years ago! It's one of the few cameras you can change focusing screens on without tools. Finding the screens nowadays is a different matter.
Yes -- I saw where you can pull down the screen retainer inside the mirror box but I dare not do it yet !
Borderlands
It so happens that I have got a new unused focusing OM-1 screen somewhere :-))
David
Borderlands have a look on ebay-uk you can source the OM focusing screens there , have just got a 1-1 and a 1-2 screens, happy hunting.
Brilliant! I just loved your review!
Best review I watched
Very nice video again, Peter! Time to make a cup of brittish tea while the self timer is on, that's a good one! I have a few of these cameras, they're really nice, particularly when you compare it to the big, chunky cameras the other manufacturers were making back in 1971 when it was released. I guess the professionals chose the Canon F-1 instead, that was released the same year.
SLR camera s if not seriously damaged will go on working indefinitely such incredible aperatus
I really enjoy your videos Peter. Indeed. Take care. All the Best. From Mexico.
Thanks for viewing -- I have to have a big operation in Hospital June 6th so will be 'out of action' ' Peter
Your videos make me so happy
really enjoy your videos thanks for always sharing ,God bless
Great video, Peter!
I dont know if you remember, but, when we were at BPS that was my first (quality) camera - after a Zenit B.
I must admit, I do miss working with film.
Anyway, another great 'find' and a great upload.
hallo Lewis -- no I do not remember YOUR OM-1 but many thanks for Kind Words !
Beautiful copy....:-)
inside the winder battery area is a place for the easily lost cover
A big thank to the Brentwood Camera Club members, because of them we get to have more of Pete's videos :D
YES -- I agree !! Being a 'Club member' for many years brings many 'rewards' !!
If you remove the auto-winder battery cover, there's a little slot (just above the batteries) to store the winder cover plate.
A zinc air 675 battery and a suitable o ring will get you going. You can buy a pack of 6 of them for less than £2 and they are basically what they use to make Wein cells.
Another cracking review Peter thank you. Are you able to show us how and when to apply the Neatsfoot Oil to the camera bodies and the leather cases. I have an OM1-n which I love, but I am reluctant to apply oil in case I use the wrong technique
, or apply too much.
Regards
David
Hi David -- well, if viewers would be interested I suppose I COULD do a Video on the use of Neatsfoot Oil ! I will have to find some other 'treasures' to demo about as the OM cameras have all been done !
David -- your WISH is my COMMAND !! I have done the Video TODAY !!
Peter Elgar
What can I say Peter you're a Star :-)
I feel sure there are many viewers out there who watch and enjoy your pieces on your "treasures", but at the same time would appreciate tips from you of how to clean and furbish a camera of their own. Anyway thanks for responding so magnificently to my suggestion, and keep making the videos please.
Regards David
"The actual original..." well I've got an M-1, that's the original. It was withdrawn due to legal dispute with Leica and reissued as OM-1. Unfortunately they all have the "dirty prism" disease. Adhesive used to glue the foam into the prism deteriorates after 40 - 50 years. This leaves a small forest of debris in the lower viewfinder.
There is a video on CZcams on how to fix that.
Wonderful video Peter! Do you change your development time when you pull expired film or did you just develop your roll as if it were 200ISO?
Good Morning -- well I give 'Normal' time as when i give the extra exposure to outdated film it is just making up for the loss of Sensitivity .
thanks for the reply Sir Elgar :)
A gifted, OLYMPUS OM-1?, Lucky bloke.
Hi.. I am a fan and I watch it several times because I like it. I have been living in the UK for several years and I speak poor English. I live in Hull and I would like to fix my om1 n. Maybe you know good service technicians, please write ... thank you and best regards.
Sorry do not know of any Camera Technicians in your area -- one just went BROKE there !
Had one for years. Have not used it in years, but will never part with it!
Line up the pin!!!
There is a pin hole between the battery cover and the motor drive sprocket on the bottom of the camera. Line up the pin on the winder to fit into the pinhole on the camera and there you are, a perfect fit!
Yo ! William -- another thing I have learnt thanks to you !
oi, guv'nor...cor blighmey!
Great video, as always. Down to earth, straight to the point. No faffing around. That's why I like your videos! Got give thanks to those people that donate the camera's for you to show us!

I am guessing that is you on flickr?
Kind regards
YES -- that is ME !
The shutter on the OM1 is a bit slow at 1/500 up to about one-third slow and at 1/1000 up to about half a stop, so beware of that to prevent overexposure !
You can change screens on the Nikon f2's and ftn
