Have you considered shows like Fetch! or Wonder Pets? I would watch those
OK OK MY IDEA FOR WHERE THE WORDS COME FROM
All words come from their own world, and are especially summoned to the Word world for their specific use. So all ants would be on ant world, robots on robot world, and so on.
Another great lore video! I love these so much, one thing i wanna ask: have you thought about Wild Kratts for one of these videos? Some (kinda?) weird stuff happens in that show-
Also, love the outro song!
😎cool
Have you done a lore video on Caillou?
5:58 So the rules are all “guidelines” that are never consistent?
This really IS a show about learning English!
Indeed
As an English speaker, I can confirm!🤣🤣🤣
I explicitly remember one specific episode where the duck had to fix up a spider web, and for w and e he goes on these big adventures to find them, but for the letter B he just goes to dog's giant pre-established pile of letters in his house and grabs it. And you can very explicitly see many ws and es in the shot.
Why duck didn't just start at the word pile I will never know
The plot demanded it ig?
I haven’t see. The show in years, but from what I remember Duck was like that a lot
adhd mood, honestly.I know where this W is, i know where E is... fuck, gotta go to the pile of every letter for the B.
I no joke watched that episode before watching this
As previously established, Duck is an idiot
I remember my parents making my sister watch the “bed” episode several times to help get her b’s and d’s straight 😂
This is so smart!!
that a good idea as a young kid I couldn't tell my small b's and d's apart still can't😅😅

You should do one for Wild Kratts. As an animal lover it was my jam, but looking back the concept was insane. The premise was their suits could give them abilities just like the animals featured in the show, but they had to touch the animal to scan its DNA first to activate the powers. So they had to touch hippos and tigers before they could do anything lol Also the villains were wacky and insane even including a Cruella DeVil and Fabio knockoffs duo.
Literally just Ben 10 without the aliens lol.
@@A.S._Trunksyou're saying that like its a bad thing

@@LostTapesImpressiveT You ever think about the fact that Ben 10 is an Animorph: His powers come from alien technology that allow him to transform into different species of animals using their stored DNA, but is restricted by a time limit.

REAL
They are in love and I even shipped them as a child
I too, shipped them (unknowingly) as a child. I still do honestly.
Yeah ok I can see that
I cannot believe I’m not the only one!!!!
Ok, actually, I can believe I’m not the only one. I’m actually more surprised that I had this many queer ships as a child and yet never knew what “gay” was until my parents told me to be homophobic.
Thankfully, I’m out of my “homophobic phase” as i realize it makes no sense to be homophobic and that I am also gay.
So glad to see this being covered cause this was a big part of my childhood.
This is one of the most relatable video series use I too like to overanalyze children's media.

As a parent, I have literally been joking for YEARS how much I needed to see a film theory about the horrifying canon of Word World. Thank you!!
I was CONVINCED that Word World didn’t exist for a part of my life because nobody else had any recollection of it existing. I’m so glad to see it getting the hype it deserves!
Dude, same! I wasn't completely sure if this show actually existed before this video

@@manicbeyond i realized a lot of kids of the era didn't watch a lot of PBS Kids or Universal Kids which is where it aired. I've realized this as many had never seen many shows my son and I grew up on. I didn't have cable growing up and neither did I when I had my son.
One thing I always wondered is if you could make verbs and adjectives in WordWorld. Also, what would happen if they made a human?
What if someone spelt the word god? Would they get a dog or a god?
@@ThefifthBishopofGord Dog is god. That’s why he has all those letters
Santa apparently exists in the verse but we don't know if he's human or what because he was just a silhouette.
If the 100 is anything to go by, humans would find a way to destroy everything!
I think if you spelled verbs, then you would be forced to do the verb you touch. Like if you spelled run and the touched the word, you’d have to run for a short while, I think. And if it was an adjective, it would happen to you (For example, if you made the word red and touched it, you’d turn red.) but that begs the question: can you force someone to kill someone else? Can you completely change your appearance so you don’t get charged with enslavement and murder?
We like to say languages like Russian, Polish, Basque, and Mandarin are complicated, but this shows that even the English language can be complicated. Like how those learning the language see words like tear, present and live and think it's pronounced one way when it can be pronounced two ways depending on the meaning. Or the varieties of the language when a word can mean something innocent in one English-speaking country but something very different in another. And Veronica Taylor isn't just the OG Ash Ketchum! She was also the OG Delia Ketchum, May, April in the 2003 TMNT series, the 4Kids dub voice of Nico from One Piece, and Sailor Pluto from Sailor Moon!
Are you kidding? English is one of the most complicated languages out there in general! Like, it makes absolutely no sense and has so many rules that can be excused given the moment
English is well-known as one of the most difficult to learn due to pulling entire words from so many other languages.
I disagree, English imo is one of the easiest languages to learn. Nearly every language has those words with more than one meaning (in German for example 'umfahren' means both to drive around something and drive something over, depending on context and emphasis) or irregular verbs, but the grammar of the English language is way easier than a lot of other languages worldwide. Asian countries make differences in language depending on who you talk with, an elder, a teacher, child, a friend etc., most languages have articles (again in German 'der die das' and all of their conjugations depending on the gender of the subject you are talking about), differently gendered words and the grammar is way more complicated. I think it does depend on what language you start from, but English isn't a very hard language to learn when you compare it to others. Also the 'it means something different in different English speaking countries' well you have that with German in Germany, Austria and Switzerland or Spanish in Spain or for example Mexico. No language is just easy but I don't think in a contest of 'what is the hardest language to learn' English would score that high 🤷
The concept of this world fascinated me as a child and I remember asking my parents tons of questions about the lore as if they would have any idea what the answers were lol. I remember once I realized they only ever made nouns that they should have called it Noun Town. Idk I always wanted to go in to Dog's letter pit and see what I could make and I feel like I liked to theorize about potential designs of words and characters in the world. I regularly questioned the animation gag of them appearing one letter at a time and really wanted to see what would happen if they truly came apart. You can some how break apart water or the night sky, why are bears or frogs immune to this? Also, one last question that burned in child me's brain, if you broke apart someone's house, what would happen to the things inside? Are they just stored inside the letters somehow?
to be fair, they don't really need to build adjectives when all they need to do is think the specifics and it all gets sorted out automatically
Maybe the house would break into parts like roof, wall, and floor?
Part of me thinks that the audience is just represented because someone, at some point, spelled out "Y O U" and that created our insight into this world- just an everpresent figure who exists for no reason other than to bear witness to shenanigans.
Also this feels like Typoman Jr, which is a nifty concept tbh
If there’s a god in the WordWorld universe, perhaps they’re the reason why using things like S to multiply multiple of the same things is because they moderate its usage. You may play god, but you are not a god.

Also something about non-letter things:
In Season 1 episode 2A, "There's an Ant in Every Giant", Pig while playing hide & seek crashed into a pot, a pan, and a shelf, and they broke into their respective letters despite not being visually made of letters
I guess this confirms that even the NON LETTER objects are also made of LETTERS!!!!

My cousin reminded me of Word World at a New Years dinner this year and I had such a visceral existential crisis that I ceased breathing for a solid 30 seconds
Incidentally, that's exactly long enough to start the chant and spell a seven-letter word, such as "oxygen."
What do you mean?
Crab is a character that sings with Shark and Duck about eating healthy. The Word world wiki page says he has a Jamaican accent, but if you hear his voice in the show, he sounds more hispanic/Latino.
Interestingly enough, Columbus reached Jamaica on his second voyage in 1494; it had a Spanish settlement on it by 1509, and was administered by Spain until ceded to Great Britain in 1655 as part of the Treaty of Madrid.
Perhaps he's just speaking in an older Jamaican accent than we thought?

Amazing work as always, you're so dedicated to your research and this is no doubt a good form of conservation for these shows, some of which will undoubtedly end up Thanos Snapped by their networks.

So the opening riff of the Word World theme song is based off Entrance of the Gladiators. The history regarding that piece is quite funny! So it was composed by Julius Fučík and was originally called Grande Marche Chromatique (before changing it to Entry of the Gladiators because of his interest in the description of the gladiators in the novel Quo Vadis). It was created as a new military march during his time as bandmaster in the Austro-Hungarian Army to show the might of the Austro-Hungarians....the Empire dissolved as the result of its humiliating defeat in WWI and the march is now associated with the circus. The irony is strong with this one. Julius left a piece that has stood the test of time...just not the kind of legacy that he was hoping for. If American politics had a theme, it would definitely be this one
45 episodes? That surprised me. I expected that there were more because I watched this so much as a kid.
Also, if I had a nickle for every pbs kids show that had a character with an allergy to peaches, I would have two nickles, which isn't a lot, but it is weird that it happened twice.

Suprised you didn’t mention my 2 biggest pet peeves:
1- the intro. Dog just… makes some of his friends. Dog IS God backwards after all, AND he’s the only Word Friend to never speak. He definitely has some powers we never see.
2- The O Paradox
Ok. S1E1a- Runaway O
Plot is simple: Sheep shakes box, O escapes, Sheep, Bear and Dog chase it, and they perform the sacred ritual. My gripe is what’s inside: more O’s. Where did they go? Do they cease to exist? Can you use different letters to spell the same BOX? Is this like a Schrödinger’s Cat thing where the contents both exist and don’t exist? This has bothered me FOR. YEARS. Even with the added lore in this vid, I still have no clue. I will never be free of this eternal torment.
Anyways banger video
I think Dog IS the narrator. that's why he doesn't speak, he just does it telepathically and nobody realizes it's dog cause he's a ''normal'' dog

i watched this show a lot when i was a little kid and it bored me so bad, so when when i was a teenager babysitting my little sister i made it a game to over-question all of the logic and lore with her. i guess it was my way of making it more entertaining for myself, and gave me something to complain about without ruining her enjoyment or coming across as mean and negative.

I watched the French version of this and Super Why back when I was studying French because I wanted to know how they would be dubbed, and Super Why does to the same thing French Word World does. They say the words/phrases in English before repeating them in French.
I'm Brazilian, and this happens with almost all cartoons that involve writing in English
Some curious cases are Wordgirl, who only taught us words in Portuguese (which is the language spoken in Brazil) and Dora, who teaches us English instead of Spanish (probably because Portuguese and Spanish are similar languages with many identical words and false cognates, so it would be very complicated to make a cartoon in Portuguese teaching Spanish)
@@miguelbianchi968 No matter in what dub, Dora always teaches English. But Handy Manny seems to teach Spanish still. Dubbing in children's shows is VERY fascinating lol.
@@miguelbianchi968it’s wild to me that shows in other langurs also teach English, I assumed it’d be whatever language it was dubbed to. But I guess that’d be a lot of extra animation (especially for this show)

I used to watch Word World in Kindergarten, and I thought it was amazing being able to build whatever you want just by slapping letters together. I also think Dog is the most powerful character in the show besides maybe the narrator because you could just take the letters for house and spawn an identical looking house with another pool of words. Finally, I had a dream once where the narrator is physically seen. The dream was a non-existent episode where the narrator takes the characters to see a movie, only they try to stay hidden while watching to avoid getting caught without paying for tickets or something like that. He was portrayed as a human giant, in which he is seen as a giant pair of feet next to the characters (similar to the kindly giant from Maggie and the Ferocious Beast). There was also a quick shot of his face, in which he looked like a disfigured Mr. Meaty character, so yeah... Can't wait to see what's in store for Wow Wow Wubzy.

1:18
"-Ant is a very small character, NO PUN INTENDED!-"
2:06
"Ant's main characteristic is... What Ant's known for is... Listen, he's friends with Pig, alright?-"
3:12
"Can you imagine having a chant for something you do everyday?"
"It's time to feed my cats!"
"It's time to get some gas!"
"It's time to take a crap!"
5:41
"I don't want to see those letters get into the wrong hands, you know what I mean?"
"One. Million. Subscribers!"
(Singing) "I'm so lucky lucky-"
7:35
"What happens with plural words?!"
"I'm SO glad you asked!-"
8:11
"Not to brag, but yeah. I do already know how to spell 3 letter words-"
8:39
"But instead of coins, it's a material the creates you, your friends, everything you eat and everything you interact with! ...wait a second-"
9:07
"What if I just wanted eggs to eat? Would it just be intention? When I put together E G G and it would just be intention? When I spell out 'Omlette' and we don't question where the- where what I'm eating is coming from? Like what- what would I DO!?-"
9:40
"What could that stand for? Willy Wonka? Walter White? Word World!?-"
10:00
"I will never body shame you, unless you're made up of letters that when disassembled render you unconscious...or DEAD?"
11:12
"We're looking for the remains of our friend Platypus"
"I found his P P!"
"This is a CRIME SCENE! Have some RESPECT!"
(Slowly holds up 2 Ps)
11:47
"And when he was summoned he was immediately put to work because they had to get rid of all the peaches in the area because Pig is allergic to peaches. Wait? Pig is allergic to peaches???-"
12:28
"So letters are magical building blocks with stored potential that can not be harnessed until they are put in a word. That is the only basic truth of this universe that hasn't changed-"
(X!)
"Season 3, episode 4b the letter X announces itself like it's a Pokemon. This is the ONLY LETTER that's done this. Why is it speaking!? Why couldn't they give me ONE THING to hold onto!? WH-!?"
13:20
"The branding was VERY on the nose, but why are you gonna sing at me (sings) 'It's a beautiful world!' Don't lie, it's NOT! I am DESPERATELY tryna find a parallel to real life, what can I even compare this to? What are we just as obsessed with here on Earth? Money? Power? I don't know-"
13:39
"-where they read. On the radio. IS THAT NOT JUST AN AUDIO BOOK!?!-"
14:12
"And is it ethical to create life just to keep them in the SMALLEST BOWL I've ever seen? Sheep, what are you doing?!"
15:50
"Can't believe Word World would KILL the anti-woke mob, and I have no choice but to stan officially"
16:07
"Who would've thought that Wordgirl and Word World would have some similarities! And that only I! Master of the most USELESS information, would be able to point it out!-"
16:27
"SCREW YOU SCRIPT WRITING ATHENA I NAILED THAT!!!-"
16:48
"So there's nothing natural about this disaster, Duck is just a STUPID, PROBLEMATIC IDIOT! Next episode he starts a forest fire! That was a joke-"
19:15
"- Frog has chemistry with EVERY character!-"
19:31
"Stop S L U T shaming the word friends!"
20:19
"But Frog is out here BALLING and I'm tired of us pretending he's NOT!-"
21:30
"Did YOU subscribe yet!?"
(Awkward silence)
22:40
"It's not a fun theory by any means, but I can't think of anything else that makes sense. Can YOU!?"
(Awkward silence)
23:49
Learning how to
S P E L L
Is easy when we all
TRAVEL TO HELL
Rip apart your friends
For the letters you need
We didn't think about it
When we were only 3
Money and power
Don't mean a thing
In Word World
(Word World)
All we have to be scared of is
Reality bending magic
The sheep forces us
To play pretend
Pig eats all our food
Then says it's cause we're friends
When will this nightmare
End
("Wow Wow Wubzy lore in 2 weeks, let's GOOOOO!-")

That’s my favorite part!
Her chant is stuck in my head!
XD
I just realized her tattoos change with the lore she's covering and I love it!
(10:41)I think what might be happening with the letters popping into frame is, since they are sentient they might have more control over their forms as giant(ant) had the 'gi' just pop off, so they might be conciously keeping themselfs together when they run into frame like that.
just got home from work and now i get to unwind with the parasocial bestie. another hit video, athena
Thank you for making this because as a kid I was always pestering the adults about the deep lore of this show as if they just knew.
I was hoping you'd mention the fact that dog digs up duck's letters in the intro.
Which could imply that duck died and dog decided to dig up duck's corpse and bring him back to life.
I KNEW I WASN'T THE ONLY ONES THAT SHIPPED THEM, THEY HAD SO MUCH TENSION. IT WAS UNBEARABLE
BEAR AND SHEEP ARE TOGETHER
FROG AND DUCK ARE TOGETHER
AND IDK ABOUT ANT AND PIG BUT NGL I REMEMBER ANT BEING A VIBE AS THE CAMERAMAN
HAVEN'T WATCHED VIDEO YET, BUT THIS WAS LITERALLY THE SHOW THAT HELPED ME BE ABLE TO ACTUALLY SPEAK AND READ AT A VERY YOUNG AGE, PROBABLY WOULD'VE TAKEN MUCH LONGER IT IF WASN'T FOR WORD WORLD!
I'm Brazilian, and this happens with almost all cartoons that involve writing in English Some curious cases are Wordgirl, who only taught us words in Portuguese (which is the language spoken in Brazil) and Dora, who teaches us English instead of Spanish (probably because Portuguese and Spanish are similar languages with many identical words and false cognates, so it would be very complicated to make a cartoon in Portuguese teaching Spanish)
17:31 Yeah, these kind of shows sometimes are dubbed in our languages but become Learning english shows
For example, here in latin america, Dora teaches english rather than spanish, Word World was about learning english spelling, and that kind of stuff
In some other shows, the dubbing teams do their best to be able to addapt the language leasons in our language rather than english language, but of course because of this some scenes and jokes aren't understandable, specially since the intended viewers are kids who barely know spanish itself since they are so young lol
I have memories of both learning english words in this show and learning vocabulary from Martha Speaks
10:50 maybe an invisible link between the letters is formed when the creatures are put together. Intention may very well be a part of it too
i can confirm that the frog has chemistry with everyone, i was simping for him as a kid.
22:48 There are a LOT of videos like this, where people(the low-budget type accounts that usually have stuff like Go!Animate or slideshows for videos) have their “reactions” to typically cartoon-related news that are clips from other, usually not-related-to-that-same-show cartoon clips. I’ve never seen a channel like this point those out before, so this was surprising to me.
Sorry for making so many comments, but I can’t WAIT for the Wow! Wow! Wubbzy review! It and In the Night Garden are pretty much the only preschool/kindergarten cartoons that I can tolerate watching nowadays.
I remember this vaguely because I've only seen this show when I was sick. Also this feels like the planet Lexicon where Wordgirl is from controls this planet. This is their colony.
My first exposure to Word World was at JC Penny’s, on the tv in the foyer outside of where my family got photos done. It also played sometimes with Tiny Planets, which I also think is worth doing a deep dive at some point.
I have a couple of muddled memories of this show, but it was just them spelling things and the words materializing. I remember thinking it was so satisfying to watch.
This show is the reason why I use the word UPPERCASE instead of CAPITAL when describing large letters
Same lol
Same
I remember showing that show to my brother when he was a baby back in 2007. It was on my MP3 player and whenever he started crying on long car rides I would put it on. 😅
You should cover some live action kids shows too like Lazytown or the Doodlebops, they can be strange as well.
I'm still holding out hope for Imagination Movers.
omfg your like a nostalia monster dredging up memories i thought once suppressed
Keep it up love the make up every time
We made a Monkey, and it's cute, I know~ 🎶
It's not a scary Monster like I wanted though-
Monkey and Monster both start with "M"
But if ya wanna make a Monster -- I must try again-!!
Sean Schemmel who played the English dub of Goku from Dragon Ball Z and Lucario from Pokémon is also one of the voice actors of Word World. I checked who he played in the show on IMDB but it only showed Additional Voices.
Is nobody gonna talk about how these characters are made of the same material as the fragile objects they create...this means with one wrong move or trip, they could temporary cease to exist and have their body parts used by other individuals
They cease to be body parts when you cease to be a word. 😏
I loved the shipping section a little too much. Also the end song is just *chef’s kiss*
The “ant” to “GIant” episode lives rent free in my head for some reason. I feel so unnecessarily validated for some reason.
I never thought the day would come where I would find myself obsessively looking out for CZcams videos by a person who makes a living hyper-fixating on the lore of obscure children’s shows, and yet here we are.
