You missed out sampling the third row. I would take the GLE over the X5 every time. Nice review though!
Both appearance and handling are important for all categories of cars
I love the GLE! Both interior and exterior design is simply luxurious. This SUV is beautiful, but for performance, buy the 6 cylinder one.
I think the new VW Touareg is going to be the one to buy. It’s been getting rave reviews everywhere and will be significantly cheaper. The Touareg has the underpinnings of the Bentley Bentayga including the same air suspension. Both BMW and Benz will know that VW has raised the bar with the new Touareg. I’ve driven it and it is astonishingly good. I currently have a Range Rover Sport and before that a Benz ML500. The Touareg is above and beyond both of these cars. Yes, its that good.

As a chauffeur, I'd go for the Lexus RX450HL over the Touareg, for the badge, and the fuel economy. However, I love the external appearance of the Touareg - it's one of best looking SUVs out there IMHO.
Regarding the suspension, are you sure it's IDENTICAL to the Bentley? My understanding is that the Bentley had more "air chambers" than even the Q7, let alone the Touareg. I'd love to be wrong though. I've been for a drive (as a back seat passenger) in the new Touareg, and after my Caprice, I didn't think the ride quality was all that special. (but didn't notice any problems either). I did make sure it was in comfort mode.

the gle and x5 which one is more comfortable
Elvis Megabrain the GLE is much more luxurious, but the x5 feels more sporty.

Great Review .. test drove one last week coz like the look but interior fit and finish no way close to X5 or Cayenne. Price way to high for what it is specially all other competitors start 6cyl engines around 112k with more standard options

Uh oh. Handling only "reasonable", a too hard ride and low performance in the base model. My market failure warning siren just went off.

Grain on the leather looks low quality + hard plastics all on the lower parts of the cabin = BMW X5 is the higher quality interior.

I think the CX9 would be more comparable, but I agree. As a chauffeur, the ONLY reason I would choose the GLE over a CX9 would be for the badge - for some of my work, the badge matters. (unfortunately).
People buying this car usually already have the investments you are talking about. Perhaps more.

Screen after screen of distracting and confusing menus.. unsafe and unnecessary. Massive wheels with low profile tyres destroying the ride quality.
Manufacturers have lost their way, along with the simple pleasures of driving.
Ouch!!!😱 Actually Ella I don’t have a Benz! I did have a GLC for some 18 months & honestly didn’t like it. Traded it for a Skoda Superb Sportline wagon which is, dare I say it, SUPERB! No VW diesel gate for my NOT sorry arse!🤭👍🏻😎 Enjoy your Mazda😊

interior in the x5 is much better quality, better driving dynamics and ride quality too. Mercedes isn't as it use to be
