the day of the dead is a beautiful celebration i love the sugar skulls and are really beautiful when decorated i like all the flowers and the coulers on them

These actually aren't to eat for the people wondering.... they are meant as offerings for the graves as well as the altars. It's more of an art form and it's a sacred tradition not some tasty treat.

In the video the guy making the traditional sugar skulls in Mexico says they eat them. His are made of only sugar and water so they are edible. He says they make them out of chocolate and candy as well so people can eat them. 🙂

I understand some of these sugar skulls are left on peoples' altars, but wouldn't the sugar attract ants?? I'm curious.

You don't eat them
U can eat them and some people do but it's super unhealthy and it's usually made to celebrate a very specific holiday.
I recommend if you want to make some to eat you make them really small cuz again it's basically just SUGAR. It's not all sugar cuz the icing uses other ingredients but still basically just SUGAR.
If you're making small ones depending on how small they are you can probably eat them as like a decoration chocolate covered fruits.
Don't listen to people who say "you don't eat them" even some ppl from Mexico aren't opposed to making some as a snack just not the huge ones hopefully cuz 🤢.
Everyone is different don't let anyone judge you for being interested in eating it and hey if you eat the big ones maybe you'll see your ancestors sooner that's always a positive way to look at it 🤷

Why are the top videos on sugar skulls about this same white lady?
She may look pale skinned but she could have Mexican heritage, or some other Hispanic ancestry. Or she could just be honoring this tradition, which she was drawn too.
I agree bro... why aren't we hearing more about traditional artists and craftsmen/women who grew up in the culture instead of white Americans? True that cultural and spirituality beliefs cross all barriers but rather than just showing this as a 'CRAFT PROJECT' that's sold or taught for monetary profit (a very healthy profit) I'd rather like to see more focus on old world artisans who actually live subversively in Indigenous/Christian fusion culture? I'm just so tired Americans monetizing EVERY SINGLE HOLIDAY, even ones that aren't inherently theirs.
For anyone who comes here thinking about eating them...YOU CAN ITS JUST SUPER UNHEALTHY UNLESS YOU'RE MAKING SMALL ONES.
Not everyone is the same there are ppl who make them as treats for the living but they are primarily for the dead as an offering. Many different cultures give things as offerings to the deceased even Americans who tend to primarily give flowers but some other cultures and people in general offer many things some of which they eat, make, or drink for themselves such as : alcohol, food, drinks, toys, objects, various nature, corpses (usually animals... hopefully not people but ya never know 🤷), etc.
Don't let anyone try to dissuade you from eating some of these those especially not with some bs about "culture" cuz everyone knows damn well there are Mexicans out there eating or licking these I knew someone myself who's mom made some for him to eat when I was younger
Also if you wanna eat the big ones I say go for it you'll just meet your ancestors sooner 🕺
