      Martha Aguayo what people need to understand is that to be a mexican you dont need to be born in MEXICO you need to choose it and feel it kt's more like a feeling a group of those who love to live and love everything that this has to offer even if that is death💜

    Para los mexicanos nuestros muertos nunca mueren. Por eso los celebramos y disfrutamos de su presencia, los sentimos a nuestro lado, platicamos con ellos, reímos con ellos, recordamos los momentos más felices, les ratificamos que los amamos, que, pese a que ya no están presentes físicamente, les decimos que siguen en nuestra mente y en nuestros corazones. Y después, ellos se retiran con una sonrisa en los labios.

    Thank you to everyone who has left a kind comment. I appreciate you taking the time to leave kind words. For those of you asking why the children featured are "anglos", they are actually all Latinos. Two are my children and the other children are cousins. You do not have to be Mexican or Catholic to honor your dearly departed. Day of the Dead is a beautiful celebration of life. My daughter narrated this video. I am very proud of her. I invite you to read my blog post (link above in description) and read what she and I wrote about this special holiday and what it means to us.

    I understand the holiday much better now. It has its roots in the Aztec religion and culture. That I did not know. I thought it had its roots in Catholic Christianity and the Hispanic Culture. Now I feel more comfortable in celebrating this day, knowing that it is an Aztec tradition. Aztec heritage is something that everyone living in the Americas can claim, not just Hispanics. Ahora entiendo ese día festivo mucho mejor. Tiene sus raíces en la religión y cultura azteca. Eso no sabía. Pensé que tenía sus raíces en cristianismo católico y la cultura hispana. Ahora me siento más cómodo celebrar ese día, ahora que sé que es una tradición azteca. La herencia azteca es algo que todo el mundo viviendo en Las Américas puede reclamar, no sólo los hispanos.

    • @eliasdeleongto
      @eliasdeleongto Před 8 lety +1

      ***** Mexicans are not indigenous people. Not any more than any other nationality in the Western Hemisphere. For the most part they are culturally, religiously, linguistically, and genetically Hispanics; with roots in Spain, which is (mostly) in Europe. Some Mexicans are genetically, religiously, linguistically, and culturally indigenous; but most are not. I am partially indigenous genetically (Apache), but as is the case with most Mexicans, I do not speak my tribe's language, nor do I know its culture or practice its religion. If everyone of at least partial European descent "returned" to Europe, at least 2/3 of Mexicans would "return" to Spain. Mexico would not exist without its Hispanic roots; nor would Cuba, Argentina, and all the other former Spanish territories. Rather, it would be the various civilizations, nations, empires and tribes that were- Aztec, Maya, Inca, etc. Your proposal that those of "white" heritage are usurpers is preposterous. It is not only the genetically indigenous Mexicans who celebrate Day of The Dead. I was living in Mexico for two consecutive Day of The Dead celebrations (2013 & 2014) and I can tell you that Mexicans of all colors celebrate the day; even those who are not any darker than the typical Spaniard (think: Antonio Banderas & Penélope Cruz).

    Great video! but Purepechas were the ones who honored their dead not Aztecs. Aztecs and Purepechas are not the same. Purepechas were never conquer by Aztecs. Altares are made according to what the (dead) love one used to like. More than honoring them is a time were you able to spend with the spirit of the people who have passed away and eat with them.

    • @nplebeyo
      @nplebeyo Před 9 lety +1

      By the way this tradition is still celebrated in Michoacan were the purepecha empire lived and still lives not Mexico city were the Aztec city is. Cities like Tzinzunzan and Patzcuaro are the most famous for this.

      nplebeyo Not accurate all mesoamerican cultures Olmecs, teotihuacans, cholulans, tlaxcalans, otomi, huastec, maya, mexica, purepecha etc. Honored their deceased one in similar celebrations this was not exclusive to just one ethnic group, as a matter of fact similar celebrations where carried out from First nation in Canada down to South America death is the mystery that involves us all so it's no wonder why so many ancestral societies would fear it or in the case of most Native Americans embrace it

    • @nplebeyo
      @nplebeyo Před 9 lety +1

      ere the only ones that celebrated Dia de Muertos. I said Aztecs and Purepechas where not the same. Aztecs celebrated differently and in a different month than other cultures that celebrate Dia de Muertos.

    This video is just super overly dramatic. I honestly think that some people below are being mean because the kids look really white (They could be Mexican, there are some Mexicans that look white, or maybe they're only half Mexican, like me), and I'm really sorry if the kids see those comments and get hurt because of that. Doesn't change the fact that the video is super overly dramatic though. Like really. really. REALLY. Way too dramatic.
