I’ve always hated those plastic wall panels with the strips over the seams. When I gutted my mobile home, I was thrilled to get rid of them. I then furred out the 2x2 studs with 2x2’s and put rockwool insulation in the walls. Then vapour barrier (I’m in the north) and T&G walls. Much better. Warm, and feels like a cottage, not a MH. :)

    ○ I have no idea why some people are so rude and against this rehab.
    ○ First and foremost, it's your money, time and life. Secondly, although it might be difficult for some people to believe, there is actually a large market for used mobile homes right now; mostly because of how much real estate has sky rocketed.
    ○ Brand new mobile homes (just the home, no land) are now costing what existing dwelling properties used to go for. This is actually an incredibly smart move for them financially.
    ○ I personally would be ecstatic if I came across a mobile home in this condition, for a price I was willing to pay AND that was movable; since I've been trying to find one for years now with no luck.
    ○ Doug. Ashley. I'm excited for this new chapter and I can't wait to see what you do with this single-wide! 🤩🥰 This is the 3rd single-wide you've rehabbed now, right? But the first that you've taken down to the studs?

    • @diyfferent

This is so great to see. I've always wondered how to totally reno a dilapidated mobile home because if the bones are good it could be a really good deal. These days tiny homes are really getting a lot of attention but some of them are still very expensive, which seems to go against the purpose of living small. If a used mobile home can be rehabbed for a good price, and made really lovely inside, for way less than some tiny homes, to me that sounds like a better way to go.

My life long bestfriend and I went into together and bought a 10 acre piece of land on Lake Conroe Texas that had a older 12x60 mobile home, No idea what year it was manufactored. Over Memorial day weekend we drove down and gutted it, walled up both ends 3"' apart, boxed in the frame ends and cut it in half and are building 2 12X30 (360 sq ft) tiny homes for retirement, He's going to take 5 acres and half the mobile home and I'm going to take the other 5 acres and mobile home. He's still got a few years before he retires but I'm 18 months away, I retired from the Army after 21 years in 2011 and then started my 2nd career, once I hit my 15th year at work I'm eligible for early retirement and I'm going to take it. I have a little 16 foot travel trailer that I can live in while I go back and forth and build my half. I'm getting ready to take my 2 week vacation and I'm going to spend the entire time down there working on it and should get alot of it done, then I'll go down there most long weeknds and I get a week at the end of the year that we shut down the warehouse to do inventory so that's another week, my goal is to have it completely done and move-in ready by the end of next summer, This summer while I'm down there I'm going to plant some fruit trees and bushes and clear out the area for my garden and start preparing to build my homestead.

It's crazy how many staples they use in mobile homes. Way too many. I was surprised how solid the room was after demo other than the rot under the window, which we all knew was there. I hope the rest of the house is in as nice a shape. Hopefully the bathroom isn't too bad. Ashley is always a great helper behind the camera. You two make an excellent team. Excited to see more!

Best compact and practical closet I have had was in a manufactured home. It was built in the corner of the bedroom like a square with the front where the door is diagonal. But not a triangle. Small foot print with big storage. Two rods and a shelf over both rods. And a regular door. So much better then the long shallow closets with sliders or bi-fold door.

Great work! Interesting to see how different homes are built. Modern manufactured homes have definitely come a long way compared to how this is constructed. What a welcome surprise the floor is plywood and not osb or particle board! I like the flexibility that a MH can provide in that you can usually get a used one affordable and modify it as much or little as you want to meet your needs and specs. Would highly recommend ozoning the home to kill any lingering mold spores. I got mine years ago and use it on so many projects, as well as lend it to other friends and family.

Great job on the demo Doug and Ashley!! You two are the hardest working people ever!! Just wondering, have you considered laying a plastic tarp on the floor ( over the carpet) to catch at least some of the small pieces of drywall, plastic, staples, etc. ( The things you had to pick up before you could remove the carpet). It would make it easier to let debris fall on a tarp, then you and Ashley can just pick it up and dump it, instead of taking several trips picking up the debris. You could let the tarp fill up as much as you want, or dump it more than once.
Where I live, we can get a 10x10 foot tarp at WalMart for around $10.00. Thank you so much for sharing your lives with us! ❤❤. I also appreciate that you put out three videos in a very short time!! Great editing job Ashley!! Blessings to your family!! ❤❤❤

My husband and I flipped a three bedroom ranch. It was approx 1200 sq feet. It took us six dumpsters!! The house had a basement piled full of junk, plus we totally gutted the kitchen, bathroom, and deck. We also had to replace all the woodwork around the windows, doors, and baseboards. Also replaced all windows and all doors. I don’t think you’ll end up needing six dumpsters! Maybe just two or three! ❤❤❤
