Here's what you will need to complete this project at home:
- Flower pot,
- Bucket that will fit inside the pot
- Cheesecloth (enough to fit over the top of the bucket with a little to spare)
- An empty 1 gallon nursery pot
- Scissors
- Fishing line/string
- Small fountain pump with tubing (enough tubing to attach to pump and rise above the pot several inches)
- Rocks- ranging from small to large
- Soil
- Plants
- Optional: branches, or other decorative items.
A couple of quick tips: 1. Make sure your pump works before you begin the project! 2.) Do this project in the spot you would like it to stay when its finished- it gets quite heavy when it is full of rocks, water, and soil!, 3.) Make sure that the tubing is back far enough when the water is running so that it doesn't spill out toward the front of the bucket or else all the water will run out and it can harm or break your pump. You also will want to make sure that none of the rocks wick water out toward the edges- this will also cause water loss. - Jak na to + styl
This was 2 kids ago! I wonder how she feels watching her old videos, must feel like a lifetime ago!
Years have passed, however your instructional DIY planter/plants & water feature video continues to stand against time and continues to be the best video of this type.
Anyone else here in 2020? Dec 17, 2020 today 🤩 I love that they cleaned up the playlists by year, I’m starting over and watching everything again 🌺😘🎄
June 6, 2021!! Just found this lovely young lady about 2 months ago and am totally enjoying her ! Have to be really careful or I will lose most of a morning with nothing accomplished in my garden. 😳😉🌸
So good to see you from 8 years ago. I am planning a budget DIY water feature with a rock fountain and this video helps me have an idea on how to stop procrastinating and get started.
I just made this and love how it turned out! I just used a chap $10 planter from the Dollar Store and a cheap wastepaper basket. Ordered a pump off Amazon and ran to the Local Garden Center to get my plants. Love it!
Did you made it for indoor or for outdoor?
I don't get how the water doesn't get dirt in it and ruin the pump, even w the cheese cloth she used, all the dirt on the sides will get in the pump eventually.
Yes, this really is a very nice simple design. The dollar store has more and more nice pots too now and very inexpensive. Totally worth it not having to pay the outrageous prices stores want for their pots.
Amazing to hear the voice changes over the last 14 years!
Laura you and Aaron have really transformed your sister-in-laws yard. Great work the hose link is a great addition. I would so like to be added to your hose link giveaway. Thanks enjoy your day.
Omg Laura has it really been 8 yrs ago that you made this? I pretty sure this was like one of the first videos I watched of yours and you got me hooked. Lol I've loved every min of it. Here's to another 8 yrs 🎉🎉🎉
I looked at several container water garden videos and your's is by far the best. No horrible drilling and extra tools needed, my kind of project. It looks lovely, thanks!
👍👍Excellent Idea, Thank you very much ( from India )🙏🙏
Wow! you are actually wearing gloves!! LOL Love it! And love your creative ideas so much! Blessings from Ontario Canada!
What a great idea! Fantastic for people who have too tight a budget to buy one of those expensive fountains from the plant nursery.
So good I found this first video you made
Jamming plants for 10 yrs this June! 😂
Laura, you're so ingenious and talented. I love, love, love this fountain. I'm going tomorrow and try making myself one. I already have a pump left from an accident my son made, when he dropped my bowl, (which was quite large_ and broke it. I just checked it and it still works after sitting on the shelf for the past 3 years. Thank you for sharing your videos and keep them coming. I've learned so much from you. Hope you have a great day. Linda from Texas
Wonderful idea. Love this 👏❤️👏
in 2023 - still the best planter fountain video.

Nikki Nicole i so feel this
You're SO SWEET! I love your videos! Like you, I have been a commercial nursery-greenhouse Manager. I started when I was 17 yrs old in the greens' industry. Finished up at 40yrs. It's about all my back, neck, shoulders, hips could do! I Broke! lol.
I have a 2-yr. A.S. in horticulture, with a concentration in Landscape Design (freehand and CAD) estimator.
I'm NOW, finally! working on my OWN house, like you! Landscaping is undertaken simultaneously with restoration of a 100 yr old New England farmhouse...jacking basement timbers, jackhammering walls, more rock, more perf pipe, more drainage...
UGH!! I thought I was DONE!! lol
Your videos are wonderful and thought-provoking! The planters, especially the double, and trellis will be undertaken this month. Not ONLY will they beautify the outside of my home, but they will be serving an essential function for runoff from the roof that is causing Foundation failure period five planting them and top dressing with 2 inches of crushed gravel comma the Rainwater will percolate through the planter and dissipate into the ground instead of running into my basement!!
THANK YOU, GOD BLESS!!
:)
8 years ago. You are so cute.
BEAUTIFUL!🌻IT IS NOW MY NEXT PROJECT! THANK YOU!🌻

Absolutely LOVE this blooming waterfall!! I’m hoping to make one Monday. Sooo clever. It’s like a full service filling station-nectar and a drink.

Hi Laura! I found you in Facebook a few months ago and I have never missed any of your videos since. I actually look forward to see what you are going to show each day. You give me so much inspiration and I truly enjoy watching you work your magic. I decided to start watching you on CZcams so I could see your earlier videos and I found myself bingeing watching them! I was very excited to learn that you have done multiple DIY videos. Hoping to see more in the future! I’m not sure if you’re going to see my comment because of how popular you have become, but I just wanted to tell you to keep doing what your doing girl! I’m constantly talking about your new videos to my friends and how to incorporate what you do in my own garden. I’m still very new to everything, but you make it all seem so easy and are very informative. Thank you so much for sharing your life with us. -Garden Answers #1 fan ❤️

You are so good . Any one can blindly follow your steps in gardening. Thank you. God bless you
I'm so glad they started the calendar so I can get some of your first video's.
I didn't like this video,, I loved it!! Wow that's very cool!
Very pretty 🐱. Thanks 👍
Can you overwater your plants with the continuous flowing water? How can you stop this? This is so lovely! Everyone loves a waterfall. This one is a winner!
That is so pretty.
This is beautiful!
That looks really good 👍
you tied fishing line with gloves on!!! Wow!!!
I made this, but I used screen mesh over the water bucket. I used a metal wire to tie it off so I could easily remove it if I needed to check the pump. I positioned the rocks to hide the wire mesh. I also placed a smaller bucket inside of the large bucket. I placed the pump in that and filled it with water. Then I was able to remove the mesh, take the small pot out with the pump and clean it whenever it needed it.
......and a Star is Born! :-)
I just came across your channel. I LOVE this planter fountain idea and you explained it very well. Thank you!
Beautiful. I think I'm going to make an edible, water fall, planter.
Did you make this and did the wire strainer work?
Love your idea so much. Thank you for sharing 💕

Hi Sue, how are you doing ?

Hello Carolyn, how are you doing today ?
I wish I had found this channel sooner before I spent so much money on waterfalls that spill over too much and ruin my hardwood floors. My husband was going to throw out a wooden toy chest and I was thinking I could make a beautiful planter out of it and now I have great idea for a waterfall garden. Thanks Laura you are so creative and talented love all your work.
Great video. Great idea and tips. Thank you for getting to the point and being very informative.
Love this! I have a big blue ceramic pot that I’ve been wanting to make a fountain with. Thanks for giving me this inspiration.
WONDERFUL project and tips for any outdoor fountain. We have a fountain already but will use your tip for enclosing the pump in the cheese cloth/plastic plant pot to keep debris from clogging the pump. I will probably use Black Landscape Fabric instead of cheesecloth because our fountain is in a Whiskey Barrel and it will not show up like the white cheesecloth. Thanks again!
I love this idea ❤
I love your videos to the point without telling your life story and asking to subscribe and thumbs up, thank you so much 💐❤️❤️
So pretty!
Wonderful indoor fountain project. We all have that corner that needs a je ne sais quoi🤔. It's just a matter of selecting the right indoor plants!
Cheesecloth is brilliant! Great job.

Hello Cindy, how are you doing ?
That's awesome!
Lovely, Laura, will try making one, always loved fountains in my garden ! Got to make another with birdbath feature !
The inner pot and rocks look pretty dirty and with all those rocks, it’s going to be quite a task disassembling it in order to clean the pump. Otherwise, it won’t be long till the pump gets all that dirt and debris in it. I recommend periodic cleaning to prolong the life of the pump and also for maximum efficiency. It is a beautiful result however!! 🌺
I love water fountains! Love bird baths that have water movement as well! Have several in my yard that I made! Super easy to do!😊
Very lovely!!
Thank you for the link!😊
I love her garden style
Gardening*? The plants she chooses to put together

I just found you a few days ago. You are so cute Ms Laura and I am learning g so much from your videos. Love this fountain idea. Thank you. Joy
Hello Joy, how are you doing ?
Looks great
U are so creative!
That’s really cool 😎
LOVE THIS ONE!!! Watched your succulent fountain video and loved it but I'm not much of a succulent fan unfortunately. This video gave me a good window to start on what types of plants to use for my own fountain planter. You are so talented, thank you for sharing!
Absolute genious. Never seen anything like this before! The only thing I'd suggest is to include something to regulate the flow in case the pump is too strong.
Gorgeous ~♡~ I love how you used the 3 purple complimenting flower colors. The odd numbers used in decorating is very pleasing to the eye ~♡~
Love it 😊❤
Vintage Laura, how you’ve grown in confidence 😊
great work!
Beautiful
WOW! I love it. I've got to try this. If I do get the nerve I will let you know how it turns out. Great video.
It is beautiful, Laura. Reminds me of a project from years ago that I did for speech class in community college. I was terrified of public speaking so I saved that class for last. The assignment was a demonstration- themed speech. I found a little table fountain and decided to use it for my speech. It worked but I had to persuade the teacher to let me use a little water but I didn’t have enough water, so when I turned it on, nothing happened. Did not know that was the reason, but the speech passed, then when I got home and tried to figure out what happened it was apparent right away so my little fountain gave me many good years of hearing it’s soothing sound as I studied. This was before it became more common to use beautiful fountains like yours in gardens (which are called yards in this part of the country).
