- A container water fountain is a delightful addition to any patio, deck or backyard. This DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Water Fountain is easy to make, and it brings the gentle sound of running water to your yard. The self-contained fountain can be assembled from elements that can be purchased from any home center or hardware store.

I made this today. If you turn the pump off the water from the top planter will drain into the bottom causing all the water to overflow. Leaving the top planter empty. You need to do a sealant or something in the top bucket to keep it from draining when the pump is off.

Thanks for the info on mosquito dunks! I'm in Florida and surrounded by woods, so this is a big issue for me. Nice to know they are animal safe, as the chickadees and tufted titmice will even drink from my cascading fountain. 🙂👍

Great looking fountain!! I had to laugh at Baxter "helping" you!! My pup loves to "help" also... I made a bird fountain and as soon as I plugged it in, he started drinking from it... HEY!! That's a bird fountain, not a dog fountain!!!! Ended up, they all enjoyed it!! 😂 PS.... Water hyacinths will bloom a beautiful purple flower in the right conditions but please be VERY careful... they can be extremely invasive in the South!!

First I thought that pot was FILLED WITH TONS OF ROCKS! Nifty saver & THANK yOU FOR CLEARING UP THE DUNKS WONDER-I DID NOT KNOW THEY WERE SAFE GOD DOgs AND HUMANS! -EASY FOUNTAIN IDEA-BIG TIME ECONOMY RATHER THAN 300$ at Box stores!! 👍👍

Amazing fountain! Very beautiful, although, I would think it’ll look better if you expand the outburst of the water, I have that same pump and you can adjust the spray of the water on the nozzle by twisting and pushing down.

Looks really nice, don't think you need the mosquito dunks as they don't like running water and I would add a GFCI outlet to your electrical source outlet.

How did you keep the water from draining out of the hole in the bottom of the first pot?
How often does this have to be cleaned as won't it get slimy after awhile?
We change out the water every month or so.
I know you put a pot upside-down over the hole in the lower pot, but does that keep it from leaking out the bottom?

Those river rocks are available at Home Depot. Not sure where she got the pots though. I'm about to go look for something like that also at HD. I have an inground fountain that is a pain to clean. Don't do it unless you want to climb down into a hole to clean gunk about every 4 months. I'm going to fill the ground hole with rocks and put something like this above ground..easier to clean. Also, this two layer design she is doing will be much more attractive to the birds than a hole in the ground with no place for them too perch.

Does the smaller pot have more than one hole or just the one for the pipe extension?
Just the one hole for the pipe.
How did you seal the drain hole on the larger pot?
